I am from Asia..Singapore to be exact...we are getting there, creating more awareness to stop consuming sharks fin. Fellow divers like myself have been trying to get mega supermarkets to stop the sale of sharks fin & the big ones have done so just last month. Now we are trying to get the government to totally ban the sale of sharks fin in the country. Hope its not too late. China/Hong Kong & Thailand should really do something like that too!
Half of the oxygen we need for survival is produced via phytoplankton photosynthesis. Photoplankton is responsible for taking in CO2 molecules and turning them into oxygen. Sharks control the population of species that feed off photoplankton. A decline in the shark population equals a decline of photoplankton, therefore affecting the oxygen levels of the oceans. Oxygen on Earth is very dependent on the oxygen of the ocean. If we neglect this fact, we are bringing death to the Earth
thank you so much everyone! don't forget to send your letters at elements5.blogspot.com, never give up the fight, the government must know the world is watching... (Madi)
Indeed, well said Madi! Go around Ozzie and make everyone understand! Tell them how much a live shark is worth compared to a dead one. Here's the study dr. Hammerschlag did on the matter, but you could use the study they did in Palau for "more closer to home" data: Hammerschlag N, Gallagher AJ. Global Shark Currency: The distribution, frequency
and economic value of shark eco-tourism. Current Issues in Tourism, 1–16. DOI:
Thanks for what you do to help our sharks. We need to speak up for all of our oceans creatures. The amont of life that is shipped to Pet Stores is tremendious that comes from Australia everyday. We recieve "In-Stocks" Daily from several Califonia wholesale facilites with all the life that is removed. Some times more than 10 pages of sea creatures including sharks. Most will not lie a year and many will die within a month.
take the shark out out and the balance shifts...from Canada, where we club seals to death because they eat "our" cod, seal numbers boomed as shark populations plummeted and there, you have a perfect sample of what happens when man messes w nature
love it Sharon! you have a real 'ben crop and ron &val taylor' old school shark doco type narration voice haha :) thanks for helping me spread the message!
