My father served.. and as a 12 year old watching this.. Was the proudest moment of my life. Here we where trying to use our power, not for territory, not for defense, but so that someone a world away would be able to go to lay down and not list ion to their kids dyeing of starvation. We a banded these people, and we OWE them for that.
BLT 2-9, 15th MEU =, HMLA-267 HMM-164 HMH-465 MALS-39, MALS-16 Semper Fi fellas. I was there as a Corporal embarked on the U.S.S. Tripoli LPH-10. Anchored with no liberty for 60+ days at sea as I recall. Special shout-out to all those who served. I will never forget the look on the villagers faces when we were cutting the treeline at 110 knots. Oh yeah..special thanks to the Air Force for bringing the hot chow! Well, if nothing else, at least we got to visit Thailand and Singapore right? haha!
@linkon2me actually its nothing to do with the muslims at all, I have a wife and I make Pounds Sterling at job that pays for a house and a nice car. No need for euros my friend. And Also the truth hurts doesn't it mate ?? You either despise or love the fuck out of the Americans, its one or of the other. Also whats your problem with Homosexuals and what did bryan adams and cyndi lauper do to you??? What ever you do linkon2me do not let me get under your skin..... oh wait I already did. LMAO
Thanks for posting this! Brings back memories. I landed at the airport the very next day after the MEU assault. Stayed in the Mogudishu Marriot at the Main Port, Lido Pier, The Golf Course, Baidoa and Bardera. What a HOLE. The very same night we returned from a run out to Bardera, was the night the warehouse (The Marriot) was hit by 57mm fire from somewhere near the prison.
It was called restore hope for a reason. My hope isnt praticuarly raised if my house and family is flattened by multi-million pound goods that I would rather have feed me.
I was in High School during this and had no interest in politics but now I find it interesting as an adult. Shame however how we went to feed them and we ended up in a conflict.

Thanks for posting this video. I landed at this airport with my camera (TV news) a few days after the Marines stormed the shore. Slept on the tarmac on wheat pallets for a few nights. I'll try and upload some of my footage of the airport.
Hope to see more footage of the early days like this mayb e even the push in country to Baidoa and Baledogle( check my spelling)I landed there as part of MWSG37, our group came from MWSS173( name changed since) out of 29 Palms, CA. We were waiting for our "stick" to fly us out of El Toro when this was taped, got there on the 9th I think. Good to see other footage beisdes Black Hawk Down, incident. Much respect to those guys!
