  • I just hope this isn't what's taught if a real blade is involved whether it is rubber, wood, or cold steel. I would never grapple the attacker on purpose. Attacker shold actually try to slash like crazy. Just a tactical thought.

  • @itachi123100

Really no need to apologise. You take a different view and I can respect that. But I will have to agree to disagree - absolutely. I would agree a black belt should normally command respect but I have experienced enough martial arts over the years to know that it does not always, and should not automatically, command respect. The good thing is I see your view as no less important than any other black belts out there!! All the best for your new year!

  • @itachi123100

I encourage you to read the conversation from the very start. I did not like his tone from the start and sensei or not I do not regard any human being as being worthy of more respect than another. Respect is earned and he misrepresented what I said at the start and just kept going. I have no duty to respect such a person. And you know what? You're free to disagree with me too. But please don't try to convince me I did anything wrong since I do not think I did.

  • @itachi123100

I do not agree that it is wrong to voice an opinion. I don't need to meet him to have an opinion. Have you even seen the video footage I'm referring to? I care about the spirit of Aikido too. Shodokan already gets enough abuse from traditionalists. We do not need to see this brand of 'Aikido' [if one can even call it that]. Get him to take up Judo or something more appropriate. Don't think you can tell me what I can and can't say - THAT is wrong to try.

  • No need to get defensive. I never said he was no good but in this match I could not find very much to learn from. Maybe both were very tired or something I don't know but I was not evaluating them as individuals but the match itself. I favourited these videos as I am studying footage of such bouts. Favouriting is not an indicator of liking per se. Thank you for putting them up. It helps.

  • @dooyeweerd Perhaps you need to frame your comments less offensively if you don't want to be flamed back. If you didn't see anything worth commenting on then why flame the vid? I'm not sure how many matches you've had the opportunity to see but this was far from the worst, I've been playing internationally since 1990. Both are good players, both are big, and John (the Brit) was playing very defensively since he got his but handed to him the prior day in a toshu match by the same American.

  • @AikidoBob

I don't mind how you come back - it's just you misrepresented what I said and turned it into something else. I've seen a fair few matches thank you so I do have some frame of reference. And I'm also permitted an opinion. What worries me is phrases like "got his butt handed to him". That makes me wonder whether you get what Aikido is about at all. If that's how you teach your Aikido philosophy I'm glad I'm not your student.

  • @dooyeweerd Yes, you can have your opinions, when you express it you get responses, eh? It's called discourse (reminds of the the Monty Python skit...)...at any rate, it's all about competing with yourself isn't it? How well can you apply your skills against a resistive opponent. I approach these events pretty much as most of the Brits I've played with for the last 20 years do, sometimes I think they are still fighting WWII. Glad you aren't my student, too, peace, love and granola bars 2 u, bud!

  • @AikidoBob

WW2? What are you going on about now?!

The north American mindset has never really understood budo and you exemplify that perfectly. Thanks!

  • @dooyeweerd Sure, you are absolutely correct, bud, we ain't nothing but illiterate, ignorant, gun toting red neck apes over here, unlike you cultured and proper Brits who are so far removed from the North American neandertal (including Canada, right? Can you say soccer hooligan?). Talk about stereotyping, LMFAO! Functional application is the goal I pursue, I'll keep practicing my crass North American aikido you go dance your budo dance, enjoy your practice and find enlightenment in your aikido.

  • @AikidoBob

When the stereotype fits - use it!

And that's why you sound so hollow when you speak about the art and randori. Your 'functional' approach bleeds the heart and soul out of Aikido. Still, if that's how you want to practice it fine - just ignore its heritage every time you bow to O Sensei!

  • @dooyeweerd Still trying to win the argument? So who is the one into competition, sounding hollow, the one who can't lose his ego, can't give up the argument? I bow out! U win! I don't bow to O'sensei, I bow to Tomiki and Kano. You crack me up. BTW ever hear of the hell dojo days? Seems you want to forget Uyeshiba's nationalistic involvement in world war two, practice revisionist history, forget his support of the war, rape of Manchuria and China. I enjoy sparring and bet you reply again lol

  • @AikidoBob

Amazing how even someone as childish as you can be allowed to 'teach' Aikido!! Go and talk to those who are still listening to you because I'm not.

  • @dooyeweerd @AikidoBob Bob is correct when he uses the term "handed his butt" - I was!!! I misjudged Josh's capability in the Toshu Randori bout the previous day and he threw me around the mat like it was a demo!! I have been doing Competitive Aikido for over 10 years and Josh is one of the best - though not THE best since a Brit won over all :-) Only joking Bob. @dooyeweerd if you want to see this and understand it's application then you are welcome to come along to my club in Southampton

  • @AikiSilverback A Brit did win, and a dang good player Chris is! Cheers, John

  • @AikiSilverback

Maybe this guy is a good player. But I don't like the footage I have seen of him I'm afraid. There's a match AikidoBob can point you in the direction of where he pulls off just about the most unsportsman-like move I've ever seen in an Aikido bout. Then you can see what the refs reaction is too!! But AikidoBob doesn't think I'm permitted a view on his student! He would rather we all shine sunlight up his arse!

  • This is not titled Shodokan. It is not a demo. You need to be more specific about your views to be credible. What is specifically wrong?

  • That's just about the worst demo of Shodokan Aikido I've ever seen!!

  • @dooyeweerd Really, the gent who is my student (the young American) placed third in Kyoto. Perhaps this match against your countryman wasn't his best, but he is damn good. Show me something of yours, my friend. And if you so disliked this why did you favorite all my vids??

  • I can't understand this study. Sorry

  • @metanolo what do you mean?

  • @AikidoBob I didnt write it for offend you. I think that is a good video and an interesting sport, but is quite differ to "classic Aikido". Because, for sport is necessary a "relative training" and in Aikido is necessary an "absolute training", without attachment for the result.

  • ncie to see some real Aikido, and not only these faked demos...
