  • haven't even finished watching this, and im already convinced that this is the quintessential paragon of ballade no 3.

  • amazing!...he's a genius! *_*

  • before he started to play i wondered what would happen if that large luster fell on the piano :D

  • there is a story beyond that ballade- that its about some misterios women that is coming up from some river and tells the story about the people of some kingdom that was killed defending their home and their souls turned into the flowers of the river

  • This piece took me 9 months of dedicated practicing to get every last note right.

But I still can't touch the keys like this guy.

  • @Rachman1337 That's quite alright, I've been practising about 45 mins to an hour on a daily basis for over 6 months but no matter how much time and effort I invest in it, the end result is still absolute rubbish. Even my family knows it and none of them are particularly musical. There is definitely a reason that Chopin's Ballade no. 3 is on the LMUS examination list.

  • @ScarletInk314

Just remember to slow practice everything.

Those 16th note runs will never come just by stumbling through them over and over.

  • I am learning this for my senior recital; practice, practice, practice!!!

  • @DoctahDizzle Good luck!

  • fantasitc

  • Se Chopin estivesse vivo , com certeza estaria orgulhoso !!

  • dsadfsafsfaf

  • The hair of an artist.

  • O5:13 - 05:40 CHOPIN GENIUS IN ZIMERMAN HANDS!

  • Comment removed

  • the section from 2:10 to 3:08 is just perfect

  • Chopin ist verschärft ;D

  • WOW und zackig!!!! :O) hui!!

  • Bin begeistert wie immer, wenn Zimerman spielt (schon lange Normalzustand bei mir)

Sanfter kann man es wohl nicht mehr spielen. O__O

  • Incredible! Bravo!!

  • At the end he looks at the piano like: "and stay there!!!" xD

    Chopin is the best :)

  • Are any of you aware why Krystian Zimerman refuses to come to the United States...?

Zimerman came to the U.S. for a concert soon after the terrorist attack on 9/11. The authorities at JFK airport confiscated his grand piano because they thought it smelled like explosives. They DESTROYED his Priceless Grand Piano...!!! Smashed it into bits..!! I couldn't believe this when I heard it. What kind of a stupid fool doesn't just take the covers off and look inside. Stupid, Stupid Americans. And I am 1

  • @GuyFawkes40 thanks for the info. didnt know that. i would be pissed off too if someone destroyed my grand!!

  • dammit, why didn´t they schow the part at 5:30 close-up?!?

  • @TheRippwood Well...probably it's because it sounds very grand there, but yeah...I'd like to see the close up too!

  • Anyone key-vibrato at 4:38 ? xD

  • his posture change at 4:57 makes me lol

  • Daily routine = Watch Ballade no. 3 then Ballade No. 2 then No. 1. The others are amazing as well, but No. 3 is my favorite.

  • He looks good, he plays good, he's effortless, the sound is good, the stage is beautiful...I wish I had been there.

  • Wow, he plays as naturally as he is breathing!

  • The section right around 5:30 is one of the hardest things to play. Ever. And he doesn't make a mistake. I'm in awe...

  • 3:50 : "hmm i'm realy good"

  • @erfifien Well isn't he?

  • @uUUu314 yes he is :(

  • @christina69962 i agree that people have different tastes and there is nothing wrong with it, but i must say that classical music has special quality and most of music educated people understand its value...its quality never fades while other genres and artists rise and fall...lot of people can make modern song which will become famous, but to compose a piece like chopins u have to be a genius

  • @metalfactory50 you said it, and i totally agree

  • @metalfactory50 This is a good summary. Too many people on here who play an instrument get all caught up on how a certain performance wasn't good enough, or they could do better, this and that, yada yada. Say what you want about whether or not you prefer the music, but fact is these compositions are on a level of genius that doesn't exist in todays music. Do you think brittany spears understands harmonic relationships, counterpoint, phrasing, etc.... like the composers of the past?

  • @metalfactory50 I agree. I am very fond of Chopin, I am also very fond of metal music. I enjoy music that takes talent; metal takes talent to play. Though metal and Chopin aren't even on the same level, it takes more skill than just pressing buttons on a computer to make a "beat" and singing about drugs and "getting ass." I see Classical influence in many metal bands, and they tend to be the best ones

  • @gamminggod303 hello troll

  • @wes5020

    I think you've misinterpreted.

He didn't say metal music is superior, just that it takes talent and shouldn't be discredited for being modern.

  • incredible

  • i think of chuck norris when i see his face

  • My humble opinion?

I think Chopin would have been proud to hear Zimmerman play his pieces with the love in which he composed them! Zimmerman's depth is truly amazing. Out of everyone I see/hear, he seems to play like he composed every piece himself. A talent that is truly rare! Bravo Zimmerman, although, Bravo doesn't really adequately describe your playing!

  • woooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

  • He is ALWAYS best -_- I wanna play like him all of these piano pieces.God, please give me his capabilities.

  • Amazing! Though many of us tried and failed, how did ZIMERMAN manage to achieve playing this at with such a fine yet relaxed touch? O_O

  • I think this is a damn near perfect version of this song. I slaved over trying to find a better version at my record store today. Zimerman entirely understands this song.

  • @yeatsg Agreed

  • This is so good that it quite literally makes me sick to my stomach... especially those C sharp minor sections. Dear god, I love it... but it aches so!

  • beautiful!!!!!!

  • he made it look so easy T.T

  • what a hell of piece of music

  • If one wants to comprehend the essence of Romanticism, here it is.

  • This ballade is not my favorite ballade of chopin but damn zimerman know how to play it !

  • im gonna make this video a 1 mill hit!!

  • 6:24 sounds like some BADASS merry-go-round music.

  • @coolsambo60 LOL so true

  • Number 6, number 3 op 577745 i hate how musicians name a song it's just impossible to remember and find the song years later, stupid autist pianists

  • @kroooassant This is absolute music, giving it a title other than opus number/key signature would be wrong, especially if the composer didn't want to attach any specific event/picture with the piece. Hence why we have so many wonderful interpretations of the same music. :)

  • @kroooassant You'll find that the more notable "impossible to remember" pieces are given a programmatic title other than their usual uniform title. Besides this it is much easier having Opus numbers and piece numbers rather unfathomable individual titles.

  • This is the best performance of this piece I have everr heard, however, he tends to rush in a few places where playing a little slower would bring more expression to the piece (just my opinion).

  • My life wish: to play that piece almost as beautiful as Zimerman plays it

  • 5:26-5:39 it is so amazing and wonderful . It does chills me out , how he moves his hand so fast and lively , playing all the chords and octaves like that . Chopin would be proud of this man :)

  • he's so expressive when he plays, its brilliant

  • Comment removed

  • He the best !

  • OMG......I love this song! Gonna choose this song for my diploma exam, but zimerman puts my playing to shame! ;)

  • pedalling on a diff level altogether that steinway sounds fuckin AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Chopin would be proud, of this im sure.

  • This is my favorite Ballade of Chopin's

  • Comment removed

  • Assolutamente si.

  • He's great at Chopin. But I prefer the pianist in the movie A Song to Remember 1945. They don't play Chopin like that anymore.

  • Note how "UTube oriented" his behavior is here, and yet this video dates apparently from ca. 1980. Talk about prescience, clairvoyance etc., this guy knows all about marketing himself, right?...If, after hearing one of these typical Zimerman chopstick jobs, your reaction is somehing like, I no longer have any idea what Chopin is supposed to be all about, well, you can go, and bounce all over the Tube to find your Chopin all over again...all this courtesy of Mr.Zimerman...

  • Thumbs up if you Liked this piece before even listening to it! <<<

  • @MUEREACOSTA Actually, he came back. He played in California back in '09 and THEN said he wouldn't come back because of some U.S. operation in Poland.

  • Santo Deus... aos 5:29 é o êxtase total... ADORO!

  • @titafaleiro19 This is SOOOO beautiful my eyes filled with tears at 5:29

  • @playnath I sometimes get that way with Shostakovich. Then again, when listening to Shostakovich, I suppose the intense emotions that I'm overwhelmed with are different than the ones you experience while listening to this.

...Or could they be the same? Music is mysterious in a psychological perspective.

  • I read that he has a specially modified Steinway piano that he transports around with him. Does anyone know anything about it?

  • @raywoodsk One was confiscated in the US...

  • This fellow is amazing!!

  • @Drakozap 26 persons have listened to "Baby" one time too many... :-D

  • Well, I guess I've heard a dozen interpretations of this wonderful work, and this one is really growing on me. The sonic quality of the recording helps a lot, too. But Zimerman's Chopin is just beautiful.

  • Drak0zap is hilarious with that comment

    wow. that's funny.

  • 26 people think "Chopin" is something you can eat

  • Zimmerman is like the chuck norris of the pianists, he can do it all, even the impossible.

  • @Apartt He's Chuck-Wan Kenobi

  • Explain to me why there is a dislike button on this video.

  • I think Chopin just won over about three fourths of my brain with this one.

    Zimerman has the other fourth.

  • astonishing performance!!!

  • thumbs up!!!

  • For anyone who appreciates a breath taking individules performance i suggest you watch John Butler play Ocean. He is a little strange and not of the same genre but highly talented none the less.

  • His wife is a lucky lady, she gets to hear this breathtaking music everyday I bet.

  • My favorite version of this ballade.

  • whoever he is he was born to play chopin

  • Love, love, love the way he plays this piece. Absolutely nails it at 3:00. I don't know how he plays forte with such a soft touch. He baffles me.

  • The ending to this piece is extremely fun to play. Its the only Ballad to end in a major key and its a very liberating experience, especially since it comes right after an extremely tumultuous and IMO, constipating section.

  • @teccomin I like the cut of your jib

  • His playing reminds me of feathers

  • Thumbs up for Chopin and Zimerman!

  • Doesn't the coda of this ballade sound just like the coda in Ballade 4, but in a major scale?

  • When he plays the first notes, i'm suddenly totally relaxed.

  • 4:34 sounds like Debussy

  • This is heavenly, he even looks like jesus!

  • @TheTanpopo2 LOL! Jesus if He played the piano.

  • How can the new Rihanna song have 8,000,000 views in one week and THIS have only 370,000 views in 4 years?!?!?!?!?!?!?!$?!

  • @mlleroxanev and how can you be looking for riana and then to zimerman?

  • @Tanoch96 My friend told me.

  • @mlleroxanev people are blind and deaf to actually hear real music... Rihanna is just an "artist" who attracts young people who like hip hop, rap, etc... but IMHO, not a rap hater or anything... however I truly believe that classic music was meant for EDUCATED people... and Zimmerman was, is, will be... educated lol...

  • @Damgoodballers8 anyone can listen to and enjoy classical music if they want to. everyone has their own opinions on music :P there's no "right or wrong" tastes.

  • He looks like Chopin...Look at his hair, the shape of his face...amazing....He must adore Chopin so much, just like we do...great! very cool...

  • very nice interpritition

  • Several years ago, I had the opportunity to learn this beautiful piece of music at 16 after being inspired by a more seasoned pianist friend who played it. There was something uplifting about simply hearing it, but playing it...my goodness, I could not imagine a more heavenly experience. Other Chopin pieces are exquisite, but this Polish love letter to the piano is just divine.

  • I can't stop crying of despair listening from 5:25 to 5:40... it's terrible. I can only imagine what Chopin felt when he wrote that...

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt Then just wait until you hear the Fourth Ballade.

  • @Robotman42 I've listened to it too many times, I know! :)

btw I'm uploading them now, by Zimerman... as a youth!

  • @newFranzFerencLiszt And it's terribly difficult to play that... :)

  • Is it just me or is the part at 3:57 just soooo beautiful?

  • this is my FAVORITE Chopin Ballade, even over no. 4

  • this is perfect !!! zimerman is fantastic !!! one of the greatest pianist of all the times !!!

  • 25 dislikes? because of Zimerman or Chopin??

  • @WhiteCourtain because their rotten brain

  • @RachelFuryRocks My professor suggested taking them with both hands to make things easier, and to help shape it. Makes lots of sense to me now.

  • His playing is so noble and elegant :)

  • God how i love this pianist! Zimerman is pure perfection ;)

  • why aren't there anymore people composing classical like these? weird much?

  • @omguanyin There are, think of the film scores, it's just that we are not so appreciative anymore because we have so much more in life. And these guys like chopin n list were fuckin AMAZING so we were lucky

  • @omguanyin Because shit like drugs, Bieber and hip hop are more important.. notice the sarcasm :)

This world would be a better place if there was another chopin born (preferably born in a nice place free of drugs, rock and pop music..oh w8.. that's heaven)

  • sometimes I'll watch Zimerman play with no sound. Grace and perfection. Absolute control.

  • So far the BEST performance of this piece. His interpretation of Chopin's Ballade No.3, so strong technically and it is an excellent performance indeed! Love it.

  • I never heard him playing a wrong note. He is a maniac of piano @@

  • @gcaee you have to consider that these video are certainly edited.

  • Gorgeous.

  • 25 thumbs down. people is insane, or deaf.

    greatest pianist alive. for sure.

  • So "ARISTOCRAT" performance!!! So simple as he plays like in just 1 octave piano..Wow!!!

  • At 0:43, did he he subsitute chromatic notes for the octaves?

  • @pipeorganloverNJP Those octaves are in chromatic succession... He just played them with two hands.

  • @pipeorganloverNJP Nope, they're originally there

  • BRAAAAAAAAAAVO!!!!!!

  • i LOVE this interpretation.

  • All who believe Zimerman is probably the best pianist alive should give this a thumb up.

  • no, I mean like... double thumbs up!

  • @93rardo hmmmmmm

Has anybody every seen or hear him make a mistake? i.e. press a wrong note....? It's amazing.

  • @GeorgeMaxwellDuPre I haven't seen him make a mistake yet.... which is awesome... truly this man has superpowers

  • @93rardo true very true

  • @93rardo I think Hamelin is better, although Zimerman is also very good.

  • @runeweb

I never heard of Hamelin. Thanks for letting me know about him or her. I will listen to Hamelin and compare.

  • @runeweb

I just heard Hamelin's version of Ballad 3. It's very good. One could argue it's even better that Zimerman's. I have one critique though. Hamelin used way to much rubato in Ballad 3 whereas Zimerman doesn't. Also in general I still think Zimerman is the best pianist I know.

  • @93rardo Zimerman è Polacco,capisci.

  • @93rardo Having the very same debate at this very moment. I think Hamelin really, REALLY nails the climaxes at a level that in my mind is unmatched by any living pianist, but overall I think Zimerman has a better touch and a better overall quality than Hamelin. Another thing that I'd like to point out is that Zimerman doesn't make a single note mistake in this, while Hamelin (who has divine technique that certainly outstrips 99% of the best concert pianists out there) makes several!

  • @MasterAzunai

Yes, it is amazing that Zimerman makes no mistakes. In an interview Zimerman said that he doesn't mind mistakes and that a great pianist (he mentions Cortot) can make a number of mistakes and still be a great pianist. It's unimportant. He doesn't strive for a faultless performance at all and ironically I think that is the very reason why he doesn't make mistakes. It all flows so naturally.

  • @93rardo not the best i thing

  • @93rardo For heaven's sake, he's very good ... But do not overdo it. Pollini, for example, where you put it?

  • @Neil5409 i think he was hasty but at the same time he did say probably. therefore not definitive just throwin it out there haha

  • thank you v much for posting this. I hope to take this for my ATCL.

  • la mia nuova ballata preferita ( e per forza, la devo studiare)

  • amazing interpretation, by an untouchable artist.

    Almost celestial at times

  • Is a very pretty piece. This one you could to dance, is like a funnny dance.

  • When I hear Justin Bieber's song "Baby", I listen to this to wash my ears.

  • @Drakozap vasika eisai eleos !!! edw vrhkes na to grapseis auto !!!! ntroph sou vrwmiarh !!!

  • @Drakozap I think you mean "heal"

  • @Robotman42 No...I mean wash... lol no JK

  • @Drakozap stop mention him pls

  • @Drakozap

I would also listen to Ballade No. 1

  • @Drakozap You shouldn't even listen to bieber

  • I have to say this is my favorite ballade of the four

  • i simply cannot believe that 25 people didn't like this.
