I could easily play that bass beat with one foot. Why does everybody play some easy beat in all the videos demonstrating this technique. That just eats out the meaning of the tutorial.
No offence meant, but in my humble opinion that is tapping, not playing. Give the beater some room to move that way you'll get much more power out of the stroke! = )
He is showing how you can use your left foot to control both the hi-hat and left kick pedal, while playing a pattern with your right foot. It is a good technique which can be used for a lot of things like blasting.
The whole thing is that many drummers sacrifice hi-hat control when they go to double bass. With this technique you can have both, double bass and hi-hat. With FUNK, hi-hat is essential and with double bass down below the funk you can do GHOST notes with your feet as well.
listen to lets get this party started by korn, david silveria does a sweet double bass pattern and has hi hat splashes in the middle of it, its actually a really cool technique to have in your bag of tricks.
You put wah-wah on your bass drum?

The technique in this video is over exaggerated for purpose of illustration. You won't need to bend your ankle that much for the technique.
