I have a friend who gave me a Japanese Gamecube, unmodded, and I just got a new HK EMS USB GC memory card, and I find it amusingly frustrating that I'm re-formatting it back and forth between the NTSC-J GC and my NTSC-U/C Wii. I must have figured by now in 2010, and since it is a USB memory card, there would be a way to format the card itself to multi-region or region free.
@bigjake52 Interesting. I've got a Xeno chip that I haven't installed yet (got it after I did the switch mod). I guess that makes sense, perhaps? Maybe the chip fools the right stuff?
My dumb Naruto game definitely deleted my save, though.
Yeah, It's a good thing my PSO saves are on my brother's card. Wherever that is. :D
@alecjahn It could. I know on the wii with game cube backuplauncher it does the same stuff. but for games like paper mario 1000 year door it just crashes on the stupid intro. (with an error of "no message" :)I think the switch also changes the languish of the cube does it not? I've always wonderd that.
But trust me chiping a cube is a bit of a bitch because of the pot adjustemnt. also for all of your "backup needs" go to thepurplecube(dot)org they have all of the games backed up for you. XDXDXD
@bigjake52 Ah. Yeah, the chip looks easy to install but... yeah. I hear the silver cubes magically read easier? Or maybe "newer" cubes? Seemed to be the consensus on the ASSEMbler Games forums' thread where I nabbed the chip.
This is the big reason i have ass looking copies of games laying around and haggard controllers. I learned the lesson long ago if you care about it doesn't get attached to a modded device till after testing. I have fried carts, blown out lights, blew up speakers, the whole nine yards. If you do enough of this sort of thing your going to screw yourself eventually. Kinda goes with the hobby :D.
I've known about this for years based on what i read. Just used an old 59block one I didn't use as my Japanese one. Play sonic gems Japanese version with it. Good thing you did the switch mod, cause the swap disc doesn't solve the garbled text you get in some Japanese games (it has to do with the game accessing a Japanese font found on the bios).
@GamerBoyGU82 Yeah, exactly. (actually I have two cards... and one was basically blank and I meant to swap all my saves over and use the old one as backup... but I never did. Fuu-!!)
Toshiba makes a good TV. I am going to get a Game Cube to play Resident Evil remake game I own. If anyone would like to make any suggestions for games to purchase. I would appreciate that. The region lock out thing on all game systems is just plain stupid. Glad the PS3 does not have region lock out!
Damn that sucks, what a weird way to implement a saving system. Thankfully, this current gen of systems has a much better saving system (nearly limitless saving!), with the exception of copy "protected" saves >=[
Aww that sucks dude, I would hate to lose my gamecube saves.I have this game called medabots infinity and it took me like 3 years and 60 hours of gameplay just to beat it and once I beat it guess what I didn't collect some stupid flower pots so I can't play the special levels. They pulled a new super mario bros on me...
That blows. I love Luigis Mansion. I should also mention, if/when you are close to beating the game. If you have another memory card, save that game. Then you can run through the game again, whereas if you beat it, you can play through it again, but you'll have to unlock everything all over again (pain in the ass!)

You know I have a cube with an xeno chip. I have plenty of jap games on my memroie card with my northamerican games.
I have no clue what you are talking about. Same with pal games.
I own a 16x mad cats one. it works just fine.
Trust me I would be shiting bricks if my pso was deleted

Wow, that sucks dude, Thanks for the info. though. If I ever mod my GC, I'll set aside a memory card just for Japanese games.
perhaps it's time to buy an AR to cheat your way back to where you're save games were...
