I'm going to attempt to summat your main ideas. How far off the mark am I?
-"Quantity is more important the quality, because quality doesn't exist, a book is a book."
"There is no truth, and anyone who is sure of themselves is foolish, for no one can be sure of themselves. Every idea is equally valid, because they are all invalid. Claiming reality is the final say in truth (as Objectivists do) is equivalent to religious dogma." -
You should be more kind to Ayn Rand, you are in all her books.
Heres some Ayn Rand fo ya ol sport. "When one acts on pity against justice, it is the good whom one punishes for the sake of the evil; when one saves the guilty from suffering, it is the innocent whom one forces to suffer. There is no escape from justice, nothing can be unearned and unpaid for in the universe, neither in matter or in spirit - and if the guilty do not pay, then the innocent have to pay it." Atlas Shrugged read it!
Signofthedollarb "Objectivist. I am a good shepard!" That is an interesting remark on your profile page. I have in fact read Ayn Rand, as well as many other things, including Marx, yet I am not a communist!
The Bible, The Koran, and fair bit of eastern thinking yet I am not Religious!
My thought here is not to say that all that Ayn Rand said was wrong, but to point out that by having a fixed view (ie of another) is limiting.
I actual find a fair bit of Irony in a lot of her work, I also take her personal experience pior to moving to the USA and what was going on at the time into consideration when assessing her.
"When one thinks they know all that is to know they often jump to conclusions about others" My words at least I am not consciously quoting any other in particular.
I hope that my choice of words was not an offence to yourself, however communication depends on those involved, language is often a very personal choice.
At some point we must start using our feeling as well as written knowledge. Some thing we are all not using to its full potential that and your own common sense, which sadly is not common at the moment.I have to keep asking my self why would the people behind our governments let 7/7 and 9/11 happen and now I think I know why and may be more than one or two reasons.
I agree, the game is complex and people often chose to avoid complexity as it cause conflict. Gut feelings served humanity for many generations, and therefore must have some value, but people are told not to listen to gut feelings, in fact often people are told not to think for themselves.
when the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace .... I cant believe ive slept this long.. im ashamed to be late for the real world but ive been living for this manufactured facade..im in pain, you may laugh at me if you wish, but that doesnt detract from the fact most who ridicule me have been asleep for to long also, to be honnest im afraid but i wont let my fear get in my way its done that for too long
I see nothing wrong in people who do take something as dogma. We all have our own ways and values, philosophy might not be one of them. But those who feed their anger through overstudying established truths will have no mercy from another followers of another truths. Therefore they are doomed to run round like a squirrel in a cage.
As long as it is there own Dogma and not that of others, and as long as they are not fixed in that Dogma (though that does seem to cause a conflict of terms, though words are very flexible things ;-)) then I have no problems either. The problem is a static mind, and when a mind becomes static it is as good as dead.
There are people who do a great job, people like woodcutters, carpenters, farmers etc. Who are also very kind by the way. Humanity needs them, for they are our respected bread-winners. So everyone should take his place in the society and only then we will live as one. Like Henry Ford said "Quality means doing it right when no one is looking."
If you do it well, no one will know that it has been done ;-)) Yes you are correct in your statement about people who do a great job, I often think of the unfairness of this social model in that those who often have the easier jobs get paid more than those who have those jobs which few would chose to do and involve great risks and are looked down upon. We all need someone to take away our trash. And not everyone cleans there own toilet.
Yes, wrong way lead us to an absurd system. Your 'Crazy Economics' video touches the problem;) I used to talk with many that at the end of the day there are only few real values. Food, water and warmth. We would trade any of our riches for only one cup of water in desert.
PR managers and etc etc 'ain't doing shit' for humanity.
There have been various studies which demonstrate that once a person has the basic requirement, happiness stops increasing with further wealth! in fact in many cases the need to have more creates a state of discontentment. Penn is a classic example though I doubt that he will admit it to other or to himself!
Content makes poor men rich; discontentment makes rich men poor. We only create the vacuum instead of filling it.
It's is not a coincidence that society where teacher is not of the most honourable professions is filed with fools. And another one quote of Mr.Franklin;)
"He that is of the opinion money will do everything may well be suspected of doing everything for money."
Putting it all together results with the order we have today.
