Just joining the conversation....I've just finished season 4 - love, love, love this show and what the writers are doing with it. Brilliant. Excellent combination of actors....interesting stories....nice twists. The cast is just fantastic. Angel C. and Bradley J,...for newcomers, really talented actors. Here in Canada...we have to wait unitl 2012 to get season 4! JeeBus!!!!!!!!!!!!! Personally, I like the story...hope they find something else for this Lancelot to do!

I loved this episode! ARTHUR AND GWEN SAVED GAIUS! And if you haven't seen this episode I'm about to spoil something so look away. I love how Gaius totally tells off the king. I hate Arthurs dad, he's a huge dick
i love how ther can sentence anyone to death or imprisonment, and then have them wor for him 2 seconds later (merlin,gwen, gaius) like nothing happened
I'm glad Gwen mentioned her father as when they first liked each other I did think but his father is responsible for her father's death it must bother her.

I hope they have more Merlin /Gwen friendship in S3, this episode also shows how much Merlin trusts Gwen in talking to Arthur especially with Gaius's life in her hands.
And I love the way Arthur gives Gwen a quick glance because to me he is saying see "I am behaving like a prince" like you said (or demanded) because as he said in S2 E4 "he couldn't disagree with his father in public" but he is growing.
I agree I hope she finds out before Arthur I think it would be easier for her to accept than Arthur (maybe). Also there were hints in S1 E4 "The Poisoned Chalice" and S1 E3 " The Mark of Nimueh" the conversation between her and Merlin after her father got better in Morgana's room.
I think that Guinevere will be the first one two discover his secret. So he can confide two someone. Gwen and Merlin's friendship will grow and maybe working togethor like in this episode. I loved their Nancy drew - work in this episode :P. she will be more on screen and maybe even that she and Arthur will grow closer and closer, because she is then more around them. If they do this they would make me VERY happy :P. And of course more character devolpment for her.
What i really and really totally love about this the second series is ( besides the Arwen scenes) when Gwen gives Arthur lectures! She always hits on the right spot!! totally love it! Lovely!!
I love that glance to gwen as he walks down the steps around around 1:20... can't help but SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE like a little girl everytime he gives her those short glances. Turns me into goo. Huhuhuhu.
To be fair, a lot of people who have an issue with Gwen being black might not be acting racist, they might jsut be wanting the show to follow the original legend as close as possible.
It threw me off at first too, until I realized the entire SHOW is re-working the legend, and nothing is quite accurate.
It just takes that bit of understanding, and then you can realize how completely AWESOME this show is. *_*

Recently i read one of coming episode if not mistaken ep. 10, where someone cast a spell on Athur and make him madly in love with another girl..a princess from another country..cant wait wat Gwen will react...will she get jealous????
episode 10 is already in Youtube if you wish to watch it. The title of the episode is Sweet Dreams. And yes.. Gwen is totally jealous and mad at Arthur because she didn't hear it from his own mouth - Gwen doesn't know that Arthur is in spell of love potion.
@sherona08 yeah i watched that episode! even though i loved their scenes and of course the true love kiss *sigh* XD. But what i don't like in the episode is that Gwen is broken ( when she figures out about Arthur and Vivian). Her face.. AWW. very good acting of Angel. i don't like it when gwen is upset ore hurt. cous she doesn't deserve it. She is soooo my favourite character, more important the BEST.

I have read some comments and my reaction is: woooow... Why some people are so complicated? If they're disappointed by the new turn of event of the show then what's the point watching it?

I strongly think that you can't totally love a tv show or even a book without loving each characters, even bad or annoying characters. I even love Uther,even if I would slap him in the face every episodes for his choices! They're not following the myth or the legends, well, how cares? It's a great show and I love it! And I love Angel, she's so talented and so "normally" beautiful, I like her more than Katie, who is stunning!

So everyone needs to stop obsessing over how things have changed because it has, and personally I like it
But if you don't like the route that they're taking the story in, then I guess maybe just stick to reading the legends in books like gak2008 said and stop watching the show(everyone who does like it stick to watching Merlin though AWESOME show LOL)
Wow. Okay. Out of the 5847346585 versions of this LEGEND/MYTH. I think I like this one. Do people forget that for centuries there was no Lancelot in these stories? Or is everyone basing all their knowledge of Arthuriana on "The Mists of Avalon" novel? Come on people, there are SOOOO many versions of these stories, this is just one more. I happen to love what they've done here in shaking it up a bit. I adore Arthur/Gwen, and how they've made her a servan here. It changes everything. :)
@Gen7 It really does because you can see in this series that through thick and thin, they love each other truly, and not because she's a princess and he's a prince and they're betrothed, but beccause they know (in this series) that even though they can't be together, they still yearn to be. I especially love this episode because it really shows what a great ruler Gwen will be and such a king arthur can be.

I haven't read all the comments but there is one common "theme" I discern from it all. Everyone is so blinded by their biases for the "original characters" that they are missing the fact that the only reason why they are having mind farts about this show is because Guinevere isn't "white". And please everyone who's immediately contesting my statement please just put a sock in it. The only thing I see in these characters is exceptional acting.

The producers of this show can hire anyone they DAMN WELL PLEASED and they choice the one we are looking at. If they wanted a "white" Gwen they would have hired one.

Seriously, this is about the characterizations and the mood it imbues, if your sole criteria for liking or disliking a character is based on race, you are in serious need of a mental health professional. I am sure the cast was partially chosen to reflect the modern viewer, modern Britain. Get on with it people. Enjoy or turn away, though it seems, more of us flock to the show, of every hue because of its inclusivity. Good on the producers for foresight.
Are we really interested in watching the same old lines, or is a brand new interpretation more exciting? Are we debating which MYTH is more accurate??
Does anyone realize that most of this story is shrouded in MYTH??? That's what leaves it so open to individual interpretation. Morgana has not become weak, she's retreated, if you will, while she tries to figure out who she is.
In this storyline, Arthur started to notice Gwen when she started to stick up to him. In previous myths, it was just kinda political and or love at first sight. I'm glad that they took the bold step to paint 2 fairly strong female characters.

I hate how writers killed Arthur/Morgana relationship: in seven episodes (!!) they have just ONE, I said ONE, scene together. Arthur became spineless, able just to sigh how much he loves Gwen, how its unfair he cant love Gwen..
I know Ar/Gw will be together, I accept it, no probl, but come on!! Even in the real myth she has no strength: shes the fearful lady who loves Lancelot and causes the destruction of Camelot: end of the story! Morgana is the brave one, the sorceress, the warrior.
So now instead of one brave woman there are two. I'm not seeing the problem. Morgana's going through a rough spot, but like you say, she's going to become a powerful sorceress. Which makes one amazing queen and one hardcore witch. Colour me happy.
Arthur and Morgana need more scenes together though, I'll grant you that.

But the point is this: Guinevere isn't brave and strong: Arthur fell in love with her 'cause she is beautiful and kind, not 'cause she tries to can cope with them, saying "Arthur Pendragon"!!
It'll end that Morg will be the "hardcore witch" that she wasn't in the first myth, and Gwen the "lovely queen" who loves Arthur and she doesn't! Her marriage was a political one, she'll ruin Camelot, betray Arthur, break his heart: Arthur will die in Morgana's arms, not Gwen's!
...So you're essentially upset they've made Gwen a likable character and given her depth? This interpretation of Gwen is brave and strong and politically minded and kind; that's fine. Just like, y'know, this Arthur never pulled a sword out of the stone and is a prat, it's varying on the mythos.
And she might bear Arthur down to Avalon, but traditionally Morgana isn't exactly a friend of Camelot. It's not some deep love affair there.
@kheldara Well actually season 3 is going to change, pretty much all you just said. Se,, in season 3 at some point Freya (Aka now the lady of the lake) will come back and Uther will cut Arthur off from becoming king, and Arthur will have to pull out the sword from the stone to prove he is the true king and heir. Also, Morgana has become the evil enchantress who is very manipulative and wants to kill Uther (and maybe Arthur) and make herself ruler.

@sasusakuchic001 It is very exciting! However Morgana used to be one of my favorite characters, but not so much anymore. I loved the friendship-thing she had with Merlin, and how well they understood each other, but now she's just dark, gloomy, and doesn't care about anyone but herself and her sister. It's irritating!!
@kheldara there are so many stories out there, all interpreted by the time it was told. As for the French one writen down, well! First of all it was writen in a time, where women were considered the vile of the earth, give birth and then off with you to the nunnery and repent that you are a woman, secondly Lancelot only turns up in and around that time as an early soap opera experiment. The ever romantic in me hopes Arwen sets off into the sun set together in the 21 century version LOL

I love season 2 except how writers changed characters: now Morgana is just the fearful lady who needs protection and Gwen is the brave one who advises Arthur???!!! It's odious that the only way Gwen has to make her voice heard is to make Morgana useless: once Arthur heard HER advices, not Gwen's!!
When i watched this episode for the first time ( the day before yesterday) and heard Guinevere say: "No leaf Arthur to me" I known immediately that Gwen will give Arthur a lecture!!! LOVE IT!! It is great how Gwen grows and is getting tougher!!! She is absoluty my favourite character of this series!!! :P GO GUINEVERE
I hav,nt seen this episode yet, but when watching the trailer, it was quite obvious that "the witchfinder" is probably a sorcerer himself... He turns out to be, yeah? :)
And Gwen only did what she had to do. She was a bit "hard" to Arthur but the situation was desperate. 1 min later, Gaius would have been dead or beyond aim.
@DCfan6767 She did what was needed to do to save Gaius' life. I don't think she was throwing Tom in Arthur's face. More so she was reminding him of the gross injustice that can take place if Arthur doesn't man up and use what power he has for good. Arthur knew the right thing to do, he just needed a push.
Uh, no. Arthur was partly responsible (by not trying to stop it) for the death of her FATHER. And there he was, about to do the same thing to Merlin's father figure. I just don't see how trying to prevent that is going "too far". Arthur had it coming. I'd even argue she should've said more.

Oh, also...TOM. TOM MENTION. Finally! I'm so glad it was finally brought up. I think it's something that could potentially distance (or has already created distance between) Gwen and Arthur, so I'm glad that it was finally addressed.
Gwen is SO brilliant in this episode! She's quick thinking and stops Merlin from acting out an incomplete plan. And the way she speaks to Arthur...Future queen indeed! I just love how she says "Arthur Pendagron" followed by the complete surprise on Arthur's face. Also, love all the emotions playing on Gwen's face, both in the scene where she talks to Arthur and in the scene inside the castle. <3
i love it when Gwen stands up to Arthur!! as well as the fact that he actually listens to her! he knows what he should be doing and she just gives him that final push!!
Arthur can't say no to Gwen :p loved that she called him by his full name, I love that Gwen can talk some sence into Arthur or give him a gentle shove to do what is right especially when he knows he should do the right thing.

Wow. Okay. Out of the 5847346585 versions of this LEGEND/MYTH. I think I like this one. Do people forget that for centuries there was no Lancelot in these stories? Or is everyone basing all their knowledge of Arthuriana on "The Mists of Avalon" novel? Come on people, there are SOOOO many versions of these stories, this is just one more. I happen to love what they've done here in shaking it up a bit. I adore Arthur/Gwen, and how they've made her a servan here. It changes everything. :)

@Gen7 It really does because you can see in this series that through thick and thin, they love each other truly, and not because she's a princess and he's a prince and they're betrothed, but beccause they know (in this series) that even though they can't be together, they still yearn to be. I especially love this episode because it really shows what a great ruler Gwen will be and such a king arthur can be.

Yes, fckng boring!!! I love DIFFERENT, I love the fact that Gwen isn't some pretty thing w/ no brains that we have to get to know over time to see beauty and I love the writers REBELLION against norms. If you want scripted go read the damn books and leave the drama to ppl like me who are enjoying it.

I haven't read all the comments but there is one common "theme" I discern from it all. Everyone is so blinded by their biases for the "original characters" that they are missing the fact that the only reason why they are having mind farts about this show is because Guinevere isn't "white". And please everyone who's immediately contesting my statement please just put a sock in it. The only thing I see in these characters is exceptional acting.

Well, my dear I can see that you're not blind to the BS comments about Gwen.
The producers of this show can hire anyone they DAMN WELL PLEASED and they choice the one we are looking at. If they wanted a "white" Gwen they would have hired one.
This shows that a fantastic show can be made regardless of the race of the characters. So all those with a problem...I say GET THE HELL OVER IT AND ENJOY THE DAMN SHOW.

I could not agree more, but I think there is some sort of weird jelousy going on plus a little does of healthy racism ... it is really sad that this day and age there are people out there who are stuck in some demented time warp. As for the arguement it is not accurate, eh there is a bloddy dragon!! It is a fantasy show, get over it or watch a show from the 1950's were instiutional racism was validated and praised! I love the couple, great chemistry

Seriously, this is about the characterizations and the mood it imbues, if your sole criteria for liking or disliking a character is based on race, you are in serious need of a mental health professional. I am sure the cast was partially chosen to reflect the modern viewer, modern Britain. Get on with it people. Enjoy or turn away, though it seems, more of us flock to the show, of every hue because of its inclusivity. Good on the producers for foresight.

Does anyone realize that most of this story is shrouded in MYTH??? That's what leaves it so open to individual interpretation. Morgana has not become weak, she's retreated, if you will, while she tries to figure out who she is.
In this storyline, Arthur started to notice Gwen when she started to stick up to him. In previous myths, it was just kinda political and or love at first sight. I'm glad that they took the bold step to paint 2 fairly strong female characters.

I hate how writers killed Arthur/Morgana relationship: in seven episodes (!!) they have just ONE, I said ONE, scene together. Arthur became spineless, able just to sigh how much he loves Gwen, how its unfair he cant love Gwen..
I know Ar/Gw will be together, I accept it, no probl, but come on!! Even in the real myth she has no strength: shes the fearful lady who loves Lancelot and causes the destruction of Camelot: end of the story! Morgana is the brave one, the sorceress, the warrior.

So now instead of one brave woman there are two. I'm not seeing the problem. Morgana's going through a rough spot, but like you say, she's going to become a powerful sorceress. Which makes one amazing queen and one hardcore witch. Colour me happy.
Arthur and Morgana need more scenes together though, I'll grant you that.

But the point is this: Guinevere isn't brave and strong: Arthur fell in love with her 'cause she is beautiful and kind, not 'cause she tries to can cope with them, saying "Arthur Pendragon"!!
It'll end that Morg will be the "hardcore witch" that she wasn't in the first myth, and Gwen the "lovely queen" who loves Arthur and she doesn't! Her marriage was a political one, she'll ruin Camelot, betray Arthur, break his heart: Arthur will die in Morgana's arms, not Gwen's!

...So you're essentially upset they've made Gwen a likable character and given her depth? This interpretation of Gwen is brave and strong and politically minded and kind; that's fine. Just like, y'know, this Arthur never pulled a sword out of the stone and is a prat, it's varying on the mythos.
And she might bear Arthur down to Avalon, but traditionally Morgana isn't exactly a friend of Camelot. It's not some deep love affair there.

@kheldara Well actually season 3 is going to change, pretty much all you just said. Se,, in season 3 at some point Freya (Aka now the lady of the lake) will come back and Uther will cut Arthur off from becoming king, and Arthur will have to pull out the sword from the stone to prove he is the true king and heir. Also, Morgana has become the evil enchantress who is very manipulative and wants to kill Uther (and maybe Arthur) and make herself ruler.

@sasusakuchic001 It is very exciting! However Morgana used to be one of my favorite characters, but not so much anymore. I loved the friendship-thing she had with Merlin, and how well they understood each other, but now she's just dark, gloomy, and doesn't care about anyone but herself and her sister. It's irritating!!

@kheldara there are so many stories out there, all interpreted by the time it was told. As for the French one writen down, well! First of all it was writen in a time, where women were considered the vile of the earth, give birth and then off with you to the nunnery and repent that you are a woman, secondly Lancelot only turns up in and around that time as an early soap opera experiment. The ever romantic in me hopes Arwen sets off into the sun set together in the 21 century version LOL

AND YEAH, THE ORIGINAL LEGEND TOTALLY WENT THERE with Morgauese, but it wasn't written as a good thing; it was MEANT to be a bit twisted.

I'm sorry I'm nonconformist to others comments, I hope I won't offend anyone and I know I'll receive many bad comments but I think THIS IS RIDICOLOUS!!
I love season 2 except how writers changed characters: now Morgana is just the fearful lady who needs protection and Gwen is the brave one who advises Arthur???!!! It's odious that the only way Gwen has to make her voice heard is to make Morgana useless: once Arthur heard HER advices, not Gwen's!!

When i watched this episode for the first time ( the day before yesterday) and heard Guinevere say: "No leaf Arthur to me" I known immediately that Gwen will give Arthur a lecture!!! LOVE IT!! It is great how Gwen grows and is getting tougher!!! She is absoluty my favourite character of this series!!! :P GO GUINEVERE

I hav,nt seen this episode yet, but when watching the trailer, it was quite obvious that "the witchfinder" is probably a sorcerer himself... He turns out to be, yeah? :)
And Gwen only did what she had to do. She was a bit "hard" to Arthur but the situation was desperate. 1 min later, Gaius would have been dead or beyond aim.

@DCfan6767 She did what was needed to do to save Gaius' life. I don't think she was throwing Tom in Arthur's face. More so she was reminding him of the gross injustice that can take place if Arthur doesn't man up and use what power he has for good. Arthur knew the right thing to do, he just needed a push.

Uh, no. Arthur was partly responsible (by not trying to stop it) for the death of her FATHER. And there he was, about to do the same thing to Merlin's father figure. I just don't see how trying to prevent that is going "too far". Arthur had it coming. I'd even argue she should've said more.

Gwen is SO brilliant in this episode! She's quick thinking and stops Merlin from acting out an incomplete plan. And the way she speaks to Arthur...Future queen indeed! I just love how she says "Arthur Pendagron" followed by the complete surprise on Arthur's face. Also, love all the emotions playing on Gwen's face, both in the scene where she talks to Arthur and in the scene inside the castle. <3

Arthur can't say no to Gwen :p loved that she called him by his full name, I love that Gwen can talk some sence into Arthur or give him a gentle shove to do what is right especially when he knows he should do the right thing.
