First flight of an F-14 Tomcat 2 weeks after I was born and when I was in the guess what I got work on. :-)) What a waste to get rid of F-14's when the F-22 is still a pile of shit. I don't need no teenage queen I just need my F-14.
@wiccanmoonman I don't agree the F-22 is a pile of shit, but the F-22 is not a carrier based naval plane. I wish they'd gone with the Super Tomcat over the Super Hornet...
I miss this bird.....when i saw this plane for the first time, i fell in love with it. I wanted to join the navy and fly this bird. The F-14 meant the whole world to me (to be honest, The F-14 means more to me than my gf lol)
my uncle worked for grumman. He was there when the tomcat crashed while testing. He said the hydraulics went out. He also told me he worked on the hydraulics. lol nobody was hurt thank god.
my uncle was in vf-33 he lost his life to his f-14 in 1987 he has a couple records one of them for heaviest carrier take off he was a great pilot i miss watching him fly RIP LT.Davidson
@Flarehappy09 my uncle was in vf_33 but he crashed in 1987 in northcarolina flying the f-14 tomcat he didnt make it cause he couldnt eject in time still to this day they dont know what went wrong he was in top gun im gonna make a video of his top gun stuff and show it on video so people can see it he graduated from the us naval academy and has 3 world records one is for heaviest take off in a f-14 from a carrier add me to see the videos im gonna put up
@pattycat100567 We might have sold them tomcats, but we embargoed tomcat PARTS. So guess how many of the original 8 are in service? Besides they don't have armament for them!
@thefullmonte03 I meant to type 80, but your'e right without parts for maintainece they won't fly much, I just hate the idea of them having such a magnificent jet, I will sleep better ,thank you:}
In the video the years listed are only the years that the Sundowners flew the F-14. The squadron was formed during World War II and held the distinction of being the oldest squadron in naval aviation history.
Thanks for the reply.I would like to concur with your side note as a combat F-14 tomcat mechanic. But truth be told VF-2 has that honor with the Langley stripe of the 1st and oldest U.S.NAVY fighter squadron.Detatched to the USS LANGLEY CV-1 during the 1920s.Thanks for your note Xman.
The Super Hornet is a marvelous plane. I love the F-14 too, but we can't operate them forever because you liked TOP GUN. I think the Super Hornet and the JSF will fill the fleet defense/interceptor role nicely...
The F-14 has been in service since the late 70s, they were past their prime in 2006.
Little known secret. If you pull the breaker for the weight on wheels sensor, you could sweep the wings all the way to the stowed position and increase your turn rate. Good question to smoke out the posers.
this is one of the best displays of man made machines incredible controll by the pilots big ups to the developer of these magnificent birds cool vid man
I was an airframer for vf-154 and we always said if a tomcat ain't leakin' somewhere something's broke. That and if it's still broke get a bigger hammer.
A great plane that even oversized managed to keep up for a long time and was easily one of the best carrier based jets of all time. My personal favorite, and just plain sexy. Its time may have been up, but it was awesome in its element.
I flew Tomcat for Iranian military. The fighter fly as sexy as it look. With sweep wing, one can fly very low speed on observation, and flight very stabel at low speed. Cockpit visiblty is not good as Falcon F-16, but I never have chance to fly one, just sit in cockpit! We will be switch to Mig 29 by thre years, as AMerican made Tomcat is hard for parts electrical component
i feel sorry for u man, u guys gave that bird a good time. despite our political differences, we can still appreciate a good plane. lets me know there are good people out there. :)
Yes, it is true. My soul feels like it is in place when I fly. It is not about politica, it is about taking her to test and the extreme, both machine and body. I am one of the lucky ones that had chance to fly this aircraft.
great video and great plane,, does anyone know the which film the clip at 3:14 is from, i seem to remeber it was an aircraft carrier went back in time to just before pearl harbour but i can't remeber the name
Its been fully decommissioned about 3 weeks ago and is no longer in service in the U.S. Navy. F14 is one of the greatest militant aircraft if history it will be missed.

I think someone must hate Northop, that's the only reason why I would think that they would scrap them.
Because I believe it's bullcrap that they are doing it to "Keep the Iranians from getting them".
I bet it's to make sure that the Navy is stuck with the crappy hornets.

Great Video!!!
Although the Tomcat only scored 4 aerial victories,
there is more to the story.
In the Gulf War, when Iraqi fighters were "painted" by
the F14's radar, they turned tail and ran.
From then on, the Tomcat was known as the "Mig Chaser".
