hard to believe that this place was in business all over the country at one point only over a decade ago and now the only one left is in New York. Also K.B. Toys. R.I.P.
Admittedly, this song used to scare me a bit as a child (even though mum purchased it for me on cassette when I was around three years old or so and would play it in spite of my wary looks), but since FAO was always my "local" toy store, I find that I sorely miss hearing it and seeing the old clock!
I visited Fao schwarz in Florida in 1999 when I was about ten. It was my first time to the USA and I had never seen anything like it!! There was a giant teddybear and doll shoes outside, and I just thought it was amazing!
i remember the clock in the glendale galleria before that store closed down. that was my fave store when i was little. but i remember instead of the tall small clock, i remember since that store didnt have high ceilings. so the clock was just the clock, and it was way bigger. i remember a birthday cake and other items would pop out. lol :)
It is amazing that there are overturnes to "Angels We Have Heard On High."Joy To The World," and that Smashing Pumpkins song "Christmas Time." By the way, i visited that place several times during my visits to New York City. I especially enjoyed it when it was during the Christmas season!
This song is used at. Pleasure beach blackpool uk, on the magic mountain ride, but sadly the ride is getting demolished, making way for nickleodeon land featuring sponge bob, I will sadly mis this tune walking round beaver creek. Thanks for posting the full song
I think it'd be kind of cool if Disney payed Bobby for the right to use this song at WDW's Small World on April Fools day (now that Disneyland has disney characters w/ there respective songs idk how well it'd work there)
This song definitely assisted in the demise of the FAO Schwarz empire. EVERYBODY hated hearing that song looping, and looping. What corporate idiot mandated that?
I used to work at FAO White Plains, and we sold the clocktower, Lion, and talking tree to a children's hospital. You would hear the clocktower song on the phone when on hold.
*LOL* When I went to this Toy Store in 2003 when I first came to America, this song was the MOST ANNOYING thing EVER! XDDD It was stuck in my darn head! *LOL*
It's NOT a bad song, but if you hear it while you're shopping ALL THE TIME, it can get annoying... Hahahah!
@MimiSkitty - yes that was my reaction when I went to the FAO Schwartz in NYC. They have a greeter who apparently is forced to sing it when the customer comes through the door,
I wonder if the shop staff have to go through some kind of re-conditioning when they leave/retire so that the song doesn't haunt them forever.
Ah, that's what I thought. I was just in the store the other day and hadn't been in since I was a kid. I wish they would bring it back. Doesn't seem like it would be too expensive to do so...
i wonder if It's A Small World gave Bobby any help in the creatuion of this great song?

@BendikTeigene Yes. The only one that is left is the one inside the GM building in New York. This place rocked back in the day too.

Toy stores seem to be a thing of the past, kids just don't play with Toys anymore, they'd rather play....video games.

The local FAO Schwarz went out of business a long time ago and I still remember this song.

@glomph
No, FAO's issues had less to do with the song and more to do with decisions made by a couple of former CEOs.

What happened to the clock?
ajl1239 2 years ago
Alas, it was taken down in the early 2000s following FAO Schwarz's bankruptcy.
