  • I'm growing at the moment and am currently weight training. Don't worry about it just don't be a dumb ass if your worried when you in the weight room just talk to someone who knows what their doing and ask how do I not injure my growth. =]

  • Don't be scared at all, that is one of the biggest myths out there. The ONLY way you can stunt growth by weight lifting is to break a growth plate. Lou Ferrigno, one of the top ex bodybuilders, started lifting at 12 and turned out to be 6'5".

  • 7) Finally, to the guy at the end - your lifting was probably done irrespective of your bodyweight, right? It'd have to be. You've got a lot of weight to lose.

  • 6) to the basketball player - you train your legs EVERY DAY? Have you ever heard of "overtraining"? As far as your jump, you're probably lowering your jumping ability by lifting weights EVERY DAY. Improving your jump involves training the stretch reflex mechanisms through plyometric training. Here's another tip: slow and controlled lifting also lowers your jump.

  • he didnt say he did legs everyday he said he trains everyday. and that bench press you described is good for powerlifting, but not for building a big chest. just to clarify that.

  • 5) You're genetically gifted as far as bench pressing goes. You -COULD- possibly be benching 500 now if you knew how to bench press. Unrack the bar and hold over the shoulders, bring down to the lower chest/upper abs area, keep elbows in, arch your back as high as possible, touch lightly to your chest, and explode back up. Even a basic strength coach could have guided you through this.

  • 1) You are allowed to go into a weight room and lift "however you want"? I'd figure a school that can afford a weight room for its students could AT LEAST afford a strength coach to guide you away from the endless series of mistakes we're seeing in these videos.

    2) Your benchpress grip is too narrow.

  • 3) to do a clean and press, you start from a dead lift position, and explode upwards, reverse yourself downwards as the bar is still going upwards to get under it. Really, this is an extremely dangerous move. You should NOT do it without proper instruction and supervision, especially at your age.

  • 4) From 2:20 onwards, its amusing to hear him go on and on about doing the bench press "because he could work on it", and for legs he does extensions. Never mentions squats, deadlifts, back work, or supporting moves.
