the United Methodist Church is going the way of the Episcopal Church (once the formal leader of American Anglicanism): Both will be gone as major denominations within 10-15 years in the United States. Too many years of liberal theology, coupled by a lack of biblical standards, and of course, also, political correctness, and low birth rates/baptisms. Two of the most liberal American churches are two of the LEAST diverse, OLDEST and WHITEST.
@ScottMacFie Well said....St. Philip Cathedral in Atlanta is another example of Liberal Mediocrity gone wild to the point of being nothing but a JOKE spiritually, intellectually and musically....!!!
whether to use musical instruments in worship is a non-sensical NON-detail, grounded in nothing. Interesting too, that you find the Bible, the Greek/Hebrew meaning and interpretation of argued over centuries, and wars engaged over, is a childs book written on a 6th grade level. I would be far more interested in John Wesley's reaction to St Mark as a 90% gay and lesbian congregation than to the pipe organ and hand bells. musical instrumentation in the Church in a non-sensical argument.
@PfaelzerOrganist: The clergy wearing black robes with seasonal stoles and the acolytes wearing a surplice is actually pretty common in UM churches. Recently at my church the clergy have been wearing white robes with stoles, saving the black robes for Lent and funerals, but it all depends on the congregation. In small or rural UMCs, or contemporary services, the clergy often don't wear robes.
I don't know what Bible paden981 is reading, but this is an amazing moment of praise to God the Creator and Christ the Savior. I'm a life long Methodist and musician and nothing makes my heart soar higher than singing this sacred hymn by Charles Wesley on Easter morning. Yes! Make a joyful noise!
Here in Atlanta, St. Mark's has one of the very best choirs in the city. The music program has always been excellent. I was a member for a year or so before returning to my native Catholicism. The United Methodists have a wonderful hymnal, and excellent musicians. I love my Church but I do certainly miss the music of St. Mark's. Great job, ladies and gentleman as per always!
@paden981 May I ask what Scripture you are reading? This church is right on target!!!!. The worship is exciting and the ministries done all week meet the needs of the community. I think it would be great if ALL churches would go back to like it was in beginning.
@kuzdu30308 Nope I am not a theological scholor. It just doesnt take one to read the Bible thats written on a 6th grade level and understand that God asks us to sing and never says to play. Why don't you do some church history studying and you will find that the methodist church used to oppose instrumental music. I wonder if you would be willing to argue with John Wesly over the matter when he didnt allow instrumental music in worship to God?
I tell you my fellow Christians, that all the sins in this world is accountable to the churches, for if they only unite and upheld free giving instead of buying and selling, there could be no robber and thieves among them, nor is there a chance for athiestic view to rise. The Way of God had suffered abusive speech from the enemies of God because the churches are harlot.
I don't think it could be Easter Sunday in any medium or large United Methodist church unless this were the opening hymn. (Even my church's contemporary service uses this hymn, I've heard.) I was just pleasantly surprised that the handbells could be heard!
its lamost easter and this is a wonderful song for the occasion. it is beautiful and reverent, yet uplifting and joyful! i am not a United Methodist but i dont think it matters. i am a Christian and i worship the smae person these people do. this is an AMAZING song, performed in an amazing way
@calebcme I feel you on that one...I am Lutheran but have my share of United Methodist friends and even a few relatives that are Methodist...I am able to put that aside and enjoy the combination of organ & handbells presented here and know they believe in the same God I do
The first time I saw this video and heard the magnificent sound of the King of Instruments at the beginning followed by the wonderful chorus of choir, handbells, and congregation, I was absolutely speechless!! BEAUTIFUL!!! I can honestly say that I've seen this video over and over and over and over again!! I can't get enough!!
This, to me, is what worship really is. I'm not picking on you if you prefer 'contemporary worship', but I can't see an inch beyond the hype and entertainment value. These people are praising, making their joyful noise and offering it to the Almighty.
Notice there's no applause, just a loud "Amen!". They know who they are praising, and it's not each other.

This would be a lot better if the organist followed the printed registrations instead of blasting us with full organ on all four verses.
caddyorganist 3 years ago
What printed registrations?? Also, it's EASTER morning...full organ is a given!
convaircrazy 2 years ago
Like I said above, I've got the score/organ part in front of me and there ARE printed registrations. If you want to know what they are message me.
caddyorganist 2 years ago
There are no printed registrations. Lol.

I have a copy of the organ part/score right in front of me and there definitely ARE registrations. Message me and I'll send them to you.
