This explanation is just as bullshit as time travel and I'll tell you why. We assume this is a cell phone why? Because we know at this time what a cell phone looks like. If this was discovered in say, the 1970's would we have been calling it a cell phone? Or a two way radio? The only thing that makes it look like what it is, is because of the technology we have now.

We do not know exactly what this is yet, but given the choice between all three, aliens is sadly the most logical explanation.

The problem with the ear trumpet theory is that they would not be of any real value while walking down the street like this.. all you would hear is garbled noise as they were made to be used for day to day conversations in relatively quiet settings, not in large groups.  It could be a hearing device of some sort but if so she doesn't seem to be using it properly.

The Western Electric Model 34A Audiphone has been proposed as a possible explanation for the device she's using as it came out in 1925. This still doesn't explain to me who she's speaking to unless it's to herself.. some have said she could be chewing gum but it doesn't appear so to me. There seem to be some possible explanations but no full-proof ones I've seen yet.
