The heating phenomenon that you referred to it stopping in the description is actually called the "heat-island effect" Essentially, the green roof (any green roof) will greatly reduce the heat-island effect on the roof of any structure. It's a pretty basic concept, but it has been forgotten for decades, with black roof after black roof. Just switching the color of a roof from black to white can reduce the heat-island effect by 50% or more. A green roof can achieve numbers that are even higher.
Very cool! If you like that though, then you should come one day to the CT Science Center. It has 3 Otis Gen2 Scenic elevators, and from any floor, you can see the entire system workings. Also there is an Elisha Otis and Otis Gen2 exhibit!
@suzzex On my trip to Chicago, in the Museum of Science and Industry, I asked an employee if there was an elevator exhibit. She said there used to be one in the MSI but the system was too easy so it was removed.
Hate to break it to you, but there's a machine room above it's travel. This was when they were reducing the size of the "penthouse". The Monties in the Cambridge-Side Galleria used this same concept.
This is the MR variant, designed to straddle the openings in a machine room.
I might not know fixures too well, but there ARE things I DO know (I've seen the original ads for the new GeN2 MR elevators in print). Nobody believed the Otis/Westy/Haughton 3'rd-Party installs, either.
@georgef551 Gen2 offers a Machine Room application, but not in America. You can check their website if you wish. You can also clearly see this does not have a machine room. Remember, the other one doesn't serve the roof, and this building wasn't built new.
Beautiful elements, and the tower. :)

@elev8m8 What were they before?
suzzex 6 months ago
@suzzex Gen2, but the new call panel is new, they prolly added it because of handicapped people who wanted to go up to the roof
elev8m8 6 months ago
@elev8m8 It's not really modernized then. I do know that they have to fix that damn indicator.
