Those gorgeous strings open this Motown tour de force along with James Jamerson's greatest Bassline (in my opinion)with Benny "Poppa Zita" Benjiman banging on the skins along with the "Funk Brothers" providing the musical muscle along with the Four Tops and Levi Stubbs dramatic vocals make this the first great "symphonic soul" song. I was in a really bad relationship in NJ, I was very afraid to leave but,one day I walked to a convenience store to get away for a little peace, this song was on in the store. I almost cried because I thought, Is this what my father intended for me when I was a little girl? So that day I left town, back to TX.
