Sorry, but this is not even close to being in scale. The planets are way too close. Why even leave it up if it fails to do the sole thing it purports to? It's misleading. It would be great if you could fix the distances and then re-post.
@scottp118 actually, I got this video off an official science website. I remember they mentioned the video as precise. Don't bother asking me what website it was though - it's long gone from my memory. (i got this video a few years before i uploaded it)
lol Mercury, Venus and Earth are waaay too close to the sun in this model... the first planet (Mercury) should be roughly around the distance that Jupiter is shown here.
@Psyvrcharticgrsheltu Pretty easy to prove otherwise. When that third planet (Earth) flashes past the Sun still takes up half the screen. If the planet size scale and the distance scale were the same then the sun would appear to be about as big as Earth's moon in the same image, since that's how they appear in our sky.
Oh, BTW, there's only one Solar system in the universe since there's only one star named Sol, so there's no need to specify which Solar system you're referring to. :)
I found that there is a mission to Ceres, it is the Dawn mission, the Dawn spaceship was launched on September 27, 2007 and will reach the asteroid belt in about 2011 and will reach Ceres about 2015
ya i just realized that you said luna after i posted my last comment, sorry, and sol is used every day, almost, when we say SOLar system, which is also called the Sol system
yeah luna means moon in latin and sol is sun in latin. i meant that we should use the latin names instead of moon and sun. like instead don't look at the sun, say don't look at (the) sol or something like that...heh...
maybe cause i dont want to lose but tying means i would be like the eagles and noone likes them, but ill settle for a stalemate it means tie but we can still fight, haha its the perfect plan!
i don't know. i guess it's to show that it's unique or something...i don't know. and the same thing goes with our moon. it's named moon haha. it should at least be luna. and the sun should be sol
1)Holy crap Eris is far from the Sun, 2)Wasn't there another earth like/sized (can't remember which) body past pluto too as the 10th planet?, and 3)Are there any missions planned to visit ceres?
I know but I was making a statement, the 17 years I've been alive, I was always taught that Pluto was the 9th planet, why not rip my heart out and take Murcury out of the planets "exclusive club"!!!
im sorry but this is not even close to scale

Our Human's solar system, you say? That's a bit selfish, don't you think? What about cats? J/K :)
PS: I don't think it's to scale either.

Just wait till we'll have official models of exo solar systems!

Why aren't there any videos that show the solar system to really scale, as Pluto isn't in line with the other planets.

The distance scale here is really realy off

@Stroop Orly? if you were a giant traveling through space this is what it would look like...or can you prove it otherwise?

I had to do a project for school on ceres and googled it and it took me to Nasa's website and I saw the mission stats and stuff like that

cool ;P
and yeah, it will be cool when, if things go well, the spaceship makes it in 2015

those are words DERIVED from the latin words. not the official name.

If they called pluto a dwarf planet could mercury be next because now its the smallest planet?..........:O
Packers848848 3 years ago
no it's still a planet because it's orbit is eliptical. pluto's is an oval-like orbit

yeah, there's another (maybe they've discovered a few more) earth-like planets outside of our galaxy. ;D
and about the missions to ceres, i'm not sure...
