I remember going to Woolworths as a kid with my grandmother and eating at the Kitchenettes in the stores. The fries were tops and the chicken salad sandwiches. The decor was true 60ish and I received my first real drum set from there.it was smaller for a kid of say 10 to 12 yrs old but a real set nevertheless. Now over 40 plus years I still play drums and other stuff too. Thanks Woolworths for such great memories. Why does evil have to take away all that was sacred to us fro the 60's?one word GREED!
The Woolworths website is fake, the only thing it has to do with Woolworths is the name, and £2 per 100g of sweets!!!! WHAT, it was 52p back in the days of the real woolworths. I sound like an old person but this was not that long ago, so please do not support the fake Woolworths.
The last Woolworth's store in the USA closed forever in 1997. The company exists solely as the Foot Locker chain of shoe stores. I miss the stores, the selections, and especially the lunch counters.
I live in London, Ontario, Canada. Our Woolworth's stores went out of business in 1984 or 1985. Many of us here who never get across the pond, still miss it. Don't know where I was last Christmas to not hear about the chain closing there.
i've never look back after i lost my job at woolworths thanks to the internet i realise they was light at the end of the tunnel, had some great times there thore.
Great video. I miss Woolworths so much, i useto go in t here for allot of different things. Jel pens in bulk where great from there. As where the prices.
We in the USA lost Woolworth's in 1997, not being able to compete with WalMart. At one time Woolworth's lunch counters made it the largest restaurant chain. It was convenient, the staff was friendly, the selection was good and the prices were great. They just couldn't match the volume of the big box stores. It hurts having to explain what the term "five and dime" means to a kid.
TAKEN FROM WIKIPEDIA: According to press reports on 17 February 2009, the plan by Tony Page to re-open a chain of shops adopting the Woolworths business model but under a different name, are due to go ahead with an initial 50 shops planned. - ANY MORE INFO ANYONE??

I thought most stores bought stock especially to sell in sales. Great video, you are lucky to have such good sources for film and picture, my only gripe is that the images fly by so fast. You could make two even three good videos with all that info 5*****s 2 u
I Left ST0520 Alloa / ST0166 Stirling 3yrs ago when the business started sending in drips and drabs. To say I saw it coming is some what true, but all the same its still terrible to think its gone. To all those past and presant. It was what you made it. In my opinion it was great and will be sadly missed.
The stock buyers for Woolies must take a huge part of the blame. And what company actually buys in stock to have a january sale instead of clearing the stock already in the stockroom. I hope all the staff manage to get jobs in companies in touch with reality.
Trouble is, the big bosses wasted so much money on trivial little things, different coloured paper every 5 minutes, different sized plastic tabs every other month. As an ex employee of woolworths, when I look back and see how much money was wasted " sweating the small stuff" and not looking at the bigger issue of quality and value for money its not difficult to see where it all went wrong. Because of bickering over pennies and pence, 27000 people had to sign on this week. Think about it.
This so sad, the top bosses of Woolworths should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this to happen to our beloved Woolies just shy of its 100th birthday, the high street will never be the same again!
As Steve Johnson put it, it is almost impossible to create another store like Woolies and now they are gone we will never see this kind of shop again. The high streets of Great Britain have changed forever!
I AGREE. I FEEL LIKE CRYING. ITALY NEVER HAD A STORE LIKE IT AND NEVER WILL!!! This is the store I missed most when I left for Italy. We must step in and SAVE the British 'High Street' shops.

Worked in the Trowbridge store from 2005 until the end. It was a sad day to see this once great company come to an end.
I'll never forget the time I spent there.
