  • the director looks like Momar Gudafi

  • What the shit play? So low end~

  • I like it! we are playing this piece in our marching show this year!!

  • ...really? this is all state?

our all county played the exact same piece; we, in my opinion, sounded better..

  • I was in Iowa All-State, but it was in 2001, not 1943 when this video was made :D

  • Wow. 6 trombones? baritones? it should be 3 trombones and no baritones

  • @CarpenterKid15 The only reason we were there was for the big solo, I'm pretty sure.

  • You're right about the trombones, but there is a big euphonium solo, in case you were listening.

  • @CarpenterKid15 it's kinda hard to have just 3 trombones with 40 first violins, 40 seconds, 24 violas, 24 cellos, and like 18 basses or something.

  • real trombonists scoff at your puny strings.

But I must admit, 146 stringplayers can get a bit massive. And messy....

  • it should be 2 trombones, 1 basstrombone and a euphonium. Holst was a funny kind of guy.

  • @CarpenterKid15 and Plus the Euphonium was a instrument in the original set list, i mean, who else who play at 2:39? Not the Trombones, that part wasn't written in the original set. so you gotta have some, and plus with the massive String section XD BTW, you guys did really good, =)

  • @CarpenterKid15 everythings bigger and badder at allstate

  • @CarpenterKid15 and dude there should always be more Euphoniums than trombones, we sound better

  • @CarpenterKid15 If there weren't any baritones who would play the solo? LOL

  • @CarpenterKid15 no... 3 bones, 1 baritone, plus it's a big orchestra

  • @CarpenterKid15 Holst wrote this piece to have a euphonium part, o:

  • GO BASSOONS!

  • If I ever invade a country, the easiest part will be selecting the soundtrack to my blitzkrieg.

  • Pretty darned good for a bunch of young 'uns. This isn't exactly the easiest piece to play!

  • on the other hand great job strings and low brass!

  • the trumpet players were not very good

  • I know a freshman who got into the massachusetts all state orchestra! Like me, she plays the violin. However I got pretty nervous before my southeast orchestra audition because my violin was way out of tune and I forgot my tuner! They eventually tuned it for me, but I was so rattled that it didn't matter by that point. The worst part is that I was the 41st best out of 40 that got in! I really learned from that experience so this year I'll probably get into southeast and maybe all state!

  • roflauncher- i know someone who made it in as a freshman too, and ironically she also plays the violin haha

  • I played violin in the orchestra as a freshman

  • @danielyp29 that's lucky...in our state, as a freshman, you would only be eligible for districts, even if you tested and made regionals. Also, I think I district orchestra about the same as this, if not, a tweak better-myself excluded (not bragging)... anyhow, this is really neat. I can never forget this piece.

  • iowa state is the biggest state orchestra in the country

  • woooohooooo! we're playing this in wind ensemble right now :D but its a little faster....

  • We played this and during the concert this girl snapped her G string the whole beginning is played on the G string XD it sucked :P

  • My school band is playing this.

  • i am seeing it on april 29th and i can't wait

  • Detail is ok but it seems too gentle for trumpet and need more strong strain.

  • lol i my opinion is that the trumpet section was the weakest section.

  • woodwinds weren't the best

  • trumpet, but the trumpets stuck out. me being a trumpet player lol. nice work strings :-)

  • this song is sooo awesome.

  • This was my favorite year in all-state. The dueling timp parts were awesome. :) And I agree, the conductor did take the tempo really slow.

  • this is a really big orchestra for state. CT all state is so much smaller

  • we played all seven of the planets at one concert a few months ago for Youth Symphony.. it was a beast

  • very slow..

  • sos? :D

  • for the winnnn!!!!

  • wow... i totally remember doing this. good times...

  • great dynamics...you can barely him them in the beginning!

  • great dynamics...you can barely him them in the beginning!

  • Even though the euph player fluffed some of his solo I still think congrats are in order. To actually be heard so clearly above such a monstrous orchestra and to still play with only one mistake is really good.

  • I'm just lucky that I messed up in my chair placement audition NOT to be that guy... I would have messed it up big time!

  • LOVE IT!

  • basses are the best instrument...

  • whooo bass clarinets lol. i liked our director he was cool

  • hmmmm

NO ONE CAN HEAR IT lol

  • I think this is a little bit too slow...... tired the brass

our orch played this for school's annual concert last month also^^

if trumpets can be play louder that will be good

  • we played this in our band almost last day of school i liked it, my director made a joke about the "uranus" piece in The planets suite piece..lol it was funny love the song.

  • and this is why iowa rocks. this was my brothers 4th year in all state and my second in band (going for the 4th)

    NICE!!!

  • David E. Becker!

  • this song is sooo awesome.

  • BASSES!

  • haha. I went to the PSO concert about a month or two ago and they played this. f-ing sweet, man....

  • they have beautiful trombones

  • hey danielyp29, do you have the jupiter performance to upload too? i really want to see that. haha if you don't it's fine

  • yea.. my computer's kinda down. i'll get it up as soon as i can

  • oh ok.

    go oboes!

  • srry i ment the florida orchestra

  • the florida 11 and 12 allstate band is playing the planets including obviously mars....no offense the trumpet section is kinda weak and very big for a true orchestra trompet section but the trombones sound nice when they play with air=D im a trombone player as well and made the florida allstate orchestra oh and i guess happy new year and congrats to all who made this fine orchestra

  • The trumpet section is so large because they take one trumpet from each of the 6 districts in the state (some are weaker than others).

  • Hey, I was the principal trombone of this orchestra, thanks for the compliment! :-)
