i saw a wolfhound at a celtic festival! and my gosh it was beautiful, cute, and amazing! i started to pet the dog and it was like so cute when it put its eyes into mine! i have a scottish terrier, now compare that to the wolfhound! One of these days im going to have any irish or scottish animal as a pet!
I have one! her name is Lucy and her dad was 200lbs and mom was 145lbs...shes only 14 weeks and up to my knees...im 5'7 shes going to be huge we live in indiana too
Iv'e had them and they are sooo magnificent but never ill tempered ,OHH surprise them or invade their territory they'll let you know with a seldom heard bark that will shake the window's but stop short of attack
that beautiful. I want an Irish Wolfhound puppy, please contact me via this route if anyone is interested in selling a puppy of this breed! I live in Venezuela:)

these are known as the nicest dogs on earth. very loyal. very gentle but when pissed off they have a great amount of power. there bred for killing wolves people so yes they can kill if they absolutely have to. i have on my self. and shes the best dog i've ever had. i'll never buy a different one. one you go irish wolfy ya dont go back
my wolfhound almost killed a dog this morning in a fight. he is a total slob most of the time but when they snap they can be deadly, he was only defending my other dogs but people should always be aware of there awesome power . there still the best dog in the world though.
Razza, I agree with edtri19, I doubt very much you ever had an IW, as this is not something an IW would do. they are one of the most gentle breeds. I have had them most of my life and we presenlty have two! As for the St. Bernard, they can be heavier but not taller than a wolfhound. I have had those as well. Both are gentle, magnificent dogs to share your life with! As for health problems, luckily mine have been fine, my oldest reaching 12yrs +, never having been ill.
i have a question about the health problems i hear about.... As they grow older do they die quickly or are arthritis and other health issues plague them for the remaining 2 years of their lives :????
Irish wolf hound is the world's tallest breed of dog! On average, taller than the Great Dane! I remember my first time seeing one of these guys in person. Quite a sight! :)
used 2 have one of these yrs an yrs ago evil cunt killed three dogs(one pitbull) and had to be put down as it bit the pitbulls owner near took his arm off, only listened 2 my father and no1 else near went for me a few times but i loved it!!! was ready 2 stab the cunt that got her put down
Judging by your message you are very ill informed and obviously never ever owned an Irish wolfhound, No Wolfie would ever do that, they aren't known as gentle giants for nothing!! if you did own a dog that done all those things it was purely the fault of the owners and lack of training and judging by your language you are probably the one responsible suffering a total lack of intelligence!!!
I remember a few years ago in my apartment complex when I was 15-16 that one night at a friends house I saw this big lumbering creature walking by.. It was an irish wolfhound... I was still around 6'1 at the time and that thing would be as tall if not taller than me easily if it stood on its hind legs.
The lady who owned the dog easily found him. Very friendly dog too, I still remember petting that HUGE snout he had. Fun stuff.
Wolfhounds--the gentle giants. Kind, sensitive. TONS of health problems and tragically short lives. If you're willing to put in the love and vet bills, and if you have the room, theyre heaven. Otherwise, just dont. But their devotees wouldn't have ANY other dog (except a deerhound, of course!)
You are totally right, I went to a dog show last weekend, and saw a bunch of Irish wolfhounds and I took a buch of pictures but none of the pictures show how big the dogs are.

Extremely placid creatures in nature. An astonishing contrast to their brute strength and stature. Beautiful.

Very timid and friendly, unless you're an invading roman. Best not tempt fate, leave the pilum and gladius at home

Wolfhounds are far too gentle to do that, so you clearly did not have one

Any dog is capable of doing that, it's all about training and temperament. However, every wolfhound I've ever come across has been fairly docile.

a st bernard is bigger, sometimes
spardaking 3 years ago
Not a hope! it may be wider and heavier but a wolfhound is MUCH taller. We used to breed them.
ironhorse813 3 years ago
oh, i watched a documentary about them and the st bernard can sometimes be bigger (according to the documentary)

What a beautiful hound! I hope that years ago, people walking on Melrose in Los Angeles took videos of mine and decide to post them on YouTube!!!
