pwnt. lol dragon ball z has 4 timelines with this time travel crapt. doesnt make sense. timline 1, goku dies. 2 trunks comes back and gives heart medicine and then goes back. 3 trunks gets killed by cell in the future, who takes his time machine. 4 trunks went to past, trained, goes back to future and stops cell from stealig his time machine. Cell died 3 times, first in present, then as larva in present, and in the future. wtf.

@katie71224 The movies are not necessarily paradoxes / continuity errors. most are not. Some maybe considered, but when you look at those, you could place them in a lot of spots, or in the right light, it may not be a plot hole. Some movies are possible to confirm, like coolers revenge, you see cooler in GT while escaping hell. The res plenty more examples, and also cut dialogues. The Dragon Ball Z Perfect files help fix some plot holes.

@2583060 Indeed, you are correct. A lot of times it's more just confusing to try to pinpoint exactly when some of the movies would be happening in time with the series. It's more things like a ton of inconsistencies with things like Namekians eating habits, Saiyan's hair color, the entire GT series' existence since Emperor Pilaf should have died when the Earth was destroyed during the Kid Buu saga...you know, little things lol XD

@2583060 Nah they are three different cells, technically the last time when trunks kills cell though that would have stopped him going back in time therefore defeat the whole cell saga just there, but he wouldnt have been able to defeat him if cell hadnt of first killed trunks in one time line went back in time to inspire trunks to get stronger... what a paradox lol... i just realised your right

@2583060 Although not ALL the DBZ movies are continuity-deficient, most are. It's incorrect to say that those movies that ARE considered plot-holed can be put in a spot, because they CAN'T. Tree of Might is a perfect example. Goku defeats Turles with a spirit bomb, and uses the Kaio-Ken technique (not to mention he speaks to King Kai). But at the same time, Yamcha, Tien, and Piccolo are present. That is impossible, because those characters are not wished back until AFTER the Frieza saga.

@2583060 And are killed by Nappa. Not to mention Yamcha's fighting apparel bears King Kai's symbol, thus implying that this is AFTER he came back from King Kai's planet. The only explanation is that this movie is an alternate timeline/dimension. I still love Dragon Ball Z, but am just trying to set the record straight. And hell, you may not have been against this argument in the first place, haha.

@2583060 Though no time travel story really holds up to logical analysis, I think DBZ was at least internally consistent on this, in that the point of Trunks' visit from the future was not to alter his own timeline but to give another one a chance. If we extrapolate from this that each incidence of travel goes to a different branch, it makes sense that there'd be different versions of the characters from each—with different outcomes for each at varying points in the timelines.

@Irrenmann possibly, but when you think about it, Cell was still killed 3 times... future, present as super perfect cell, and as a embyro/baby in the lab. Also if that theory was true, it wouldnt make sense if trunks was able to return to his own time since there can be so many timelines. you cannot go back to the future if the past has been altered. DBZ and time makes no sense, the movies logically break the timeline, especially the one with tapion.

@2583060 I think it makes sense in that Trunks could return to his time but it wouldn't have been altered by time travel, or if you like, he returned to one that matched what it had been like when he departed. This is an actual theory of how time travel might work—"sum over histories" and all that.

As for the movies, I am not sure they were ever supposed to be canonical within the TV series timeline, despite certain little nods to them. Continuity-wise, they generally can't be made to fit.

@2583060 that was explained in the episodes... trunks went and gave goku the meds then he found a way to kill the andriods so he wanted to come back after winning his war... but he was killed... this trunks... came back EARLIER than the other supposed trunks wanted to... becuase he wanted to check up on things when the andriods attacked... Cell is literally from the future like Trunks. So basically Trunks bruaght Cell into the past the real Cell never hatched out of the Lab-probly destroyed@lab

FUTURE Cell died at Gohan's hand, that timelines Cell may have died at the explosion at the LAb? that part may be unexplainable.. since the actual character dialog makes no mention of what happened to the underground bunker where Cell was kept as a larva. Also, future Cell dies at Trunks hands when he finally killed the Andriods by his hand (18 and 19).. thats when Cell appears Trunks knew becuase Future Perfect Cell told him how he killed him
