i cant do 360s -.- i get so close, i need one more quarter turn... but i can never get there i just stop while both my legs are pointing ahead of me, and my board is sideways.. i know this isnt a tutorial on 360's but any tips? oh also, when i wind up and throw my arms around to give me spin.. ill start to lean backwards, so i lose my balance and land on my ass.
help when ur front foot hits the jump is it better to do a pop or an ollie which one or are they the same and i also dont understand what u mean by extending ur legs do u mean jumping also while doing this should i use my toe edge
DOUG!!!!!!! quick question: it looks as if sometimes when you straight air you are on an edge, i do this also to avoid snagging someone else's groove, should i completely flatbase it? Flatbasing scares me.
Hi Doug. I'm a bit confused (not difficult for me) in the video you say to extend your legs off the jump but in the shot there's clearly flexion in your knees. Could you clarify this please?
hopefully someone can help me with this one when ever i go off a jump i feel that im going off wrong or something because when ever i spin to do 360s my landing always is messed up, like when i land my board is always like eather to much on the nose and im nosediving or its too much on tail and im falling back.. PLEASE if some people can answer me to help me out i would apperciate it! btw my 180s are perfect and my 360s are sometimes good but sometimes they end up like i just said so pleasehelp
theres a big air jump that no one hits, i want to do it next season but i dont know the speed to hit it at and i really dont want to go too slow on that lol any tips?
i always slightly get on the ledge of my board cuz if i dont i get into a track of an other snowboarder. but when i approach the jump i go flat based. my landings are pretty well, but just wanna know if the approach to the jump is well.
@StickYproductionzz - Holding a bit of an edge is not bad, but it is good to learn to air off a flat base as well. Sometimes you will need to jump off your toes and sometimes off your heals, so the flat base can help you find center.
@sierrasnowboard Im gonna be starting snowboarding for when i move to australia. How long does it take for a beginner to get used to snowboarding or does it depend on the person. Im a quick learner. Cant wait:D
@MightyMitchx Depends on how steady you are on boards and how long youre going.
In 2-3-4 weeks you should be able to go down mountains with a decent speed and without falling every minute. When youve boarded like 8 weeks, jumps and simple rails should be okay too, and you can practically fly down any mountain without falling. After that its just getting more balance and cooler tricks =D
@MightyMitchx Oh, just read youre a quick learner ^^ Well ive seen friends who after 1 week snowboarded as good as other dudes who snowboarded 3 weeks and chicks who snowboarded 6 weeks xp Just dont be too afraid and you'll learn quickly.
@NOxLIFExGAMER Awesome thanks for the reply. Yea im very lucky person, getting the chance to moving to Aussie. When i get my own place and settle down (Nowra NSW). Come and stay at my place and go snowboarding.
@MightyMitchx Im from Belgium (Europe) so its kind of a long flight to snowboard ;) But thx for the offer and enjoy snowboarding; my fav week(s) of the year ^^
@xSnowxBoardx10 - Sounds like you are reaching down to your board for your grabs rather than brining your board up to your hand for grabs. Flex your legs so that the board comes into reach of your hand. This will help to avoid you loosing your balance as well as look more stylie in the air.
My problem is landing! Idk maybe it was the board being rusty (Bought it for $40 haha but hey I cleaned it up for the most part) but when I land man that beast catches and I hit my head freakin hurts. Got some nice air last time that made me wanna piss myself lol and landed it but I swear its the small jumps I mess up on when I land. Any tips on when landing??
@Walpernator - Your landing is off because your are out of balance on your takeoffs. Approach in a more centered stance and takeoff with a push as your tail is coming of the jump. This will help to maintain balance in the air and set you up for a smooth landing.
@sierrasnowboard Hmmm...Thanks for the tip, I'll try that this coming winter!
And yes, definitely time for a new upgrade. Any suggestions? I'm intermediate. Meaning carving is natural and I know how to go down double blacks. Just wondering, thanks!
@MzbasketballFilms - That shows me coming off a cat track. As is says at that point in the video you want to use those types of features to feel when the tail is coming off to learn the timing of the pop. Use the legs to load the tail as it is coming of the snow.
Got my new board yesterday, have yet to try it out, its the Burton Whammy Bar 2011. Was wondering if you knew if this was suitable for large jumps? i know its a park board but was just wondering :) thanks, great vid. thumbs up :)
I was trying to do basic air, i landed it couple of times and then somehow i flew higher than i have ever flied and somehow i leaned back and hurt myself really bad.
can you help me to keep my balance up in the air?
@FrontsideSavonlinna That's what happens to me, I can get the air and land it sometimes, but after a bad fall, it is hard to get the courage to do it again!
hey :) im 6' and like 160lbs, Im looking for a new board .I have a RIDE kink 159 WIDE cause a wear 13 .. and im beginning in park BUT for do my rotation like 180 and 360 It seen like a HUGE rotation for me .. so what type of board would you recommed to me plzz :) (I KNOW my english suck :D!)
@1desjardins - That is not really a big deal. Spin weight is a bigger deal and the shorter board will still offer enough stability on the approach to your jumps.
@1desjardins how takl are you because that has a big part to find the right board...a smaller board woupld be easier for a rotation because of the less serfuce needed to rotate...its just a matter of personal sastifaction
@sk8absence - Don't lean forward to match the landing. Think about popping up into the air, taking the front foot up into the desired trajectory of the jump.
@awesoman30 - Learn to adjust your speed for the size of the jump and conditions of the day. If you over shoot once you should be able to slow down to hit the sweet spot. It is a little trial an error, but avoid the big jumps until you learn to judge your speed.
well i live in southern california and picks are slim. However, my parents live in lake tahoe and i usually visit alpine meadows and northstar. squaw has great terrain but it can get really packed. if you board in socal, you are more than welcome to go with us. we have sort of a secret spot : )
Ok, so I got down the balance in air with jumps and all, and the pop is not a problem for me, but I can't seem to get myself to go for the bigger jumps....it's really all mental because I feel that I can do it, but I just have trouble with big jumps. What are some tips for getting over that fear of bigger jumps?
@jeWBacca694 right now i am boarding with a guy who is "retardedly" good. One thing he helped me with for the bigger jumps is that he told me not to worry about "pop" just speed. So what he does is he rides alone side of me and i match his speed. He does this so i won't case or knuckle the jump. It really helped me. So perhaps you can find a friend that knows a certain jump you want to try and ask him to do the same. It might help. Once you do it you will laugh because it was cake : )
@jeWBacca694 once you got the speed down and you are hitting the landing/transition then you can work on ollie and pop. Hope it helps. I want us all to rip " )
I can do an ollie of a jump. But i feel it is more difficult to keep balance in the air when i extend the back leg at the lip of the ramp. Also, when i do a frontside 180, i always keep spinning after landing... When i do a backside 180, i always stop spining at 90 degree in the air... please advice.
I'm a beginner rider. I was told when performing straight runs, you always have to be either toe or heel edge. Is this true? I've seen people hit super fast straight runs at the slope, but their board seems completely flat.
@benhogan2007 - You can keep the board flat when in a straight run. In the flats is where you are more likely to catch and edge and can benefit from a little bit of an edge.
@12345678987828 - You should always make sure the jump has a decent landing before you take flight. The landing should come natural if your take off is done correctly.
Ha heres a tip. If you havent snowboarded in 4 years don't do the same stuff you used to be able to, it took a rail a boardslide and a concussion for me to figure this out.
@sierrasnowboard Haha, i was snowboarding the other day and I lifted my back leg up off a huge lip and i literally broke my tailbone...couldn't breathe for 10 minutes >.<! But now I can't snowboard arggggg!
@dangzard you dont have it as bad as the girl i saw wipe out. broke her neck and had to be life flighted. luckily i heard she's not paralized or dead for that matter
@godlywar Ouch, eh I would've told her to get up and walk it off. Jkjk I would've held the video camera and asked if he was alright for 10 minutes. JKJKJK hehe... I would've helped ^.^
always when I am gonna jump I lost the control over the board and then I lnd on my back. I dont know what to do to get the control over the board... Do you now that???
@TheBKD2010 - Sounds like you need more practice just riding the board straight down the hill. Get comfortable with your straight runs, ollies and speed checks before you start trying to catch air.
@sierrasnowboard Hey, I really just started snowboarding and i picked it up pretty easily (*the basics*) i can link turns and go down blues easy so i figured I should try some jumps. I can never really bring myself to pick up a lot of speed and getting air. Any tips? I just find it hard to maintain speed rather than slow myself down. Im a little timid of impact on landing. How bad is it? I'm actually very good on skis and i always go for big air..i just cant do it on a snowboard. Please help, thx
I recently started going off jumps and hitting the park a lot and to be honest getting up the balls to hit a jump was the hardest thing for me. I would always bitch out at the last second and end up bailing hard because I would take off weird. Either that or I would slow down so much so that I got only a foot of air of the jump. You just have to push yourself to hit it, man up hit the jump and once you land it once you'll never look back.
@SLJstudios1234 - It is all about getting comfortable on smaller jumps and developing precision in your movements. You need to be comfortable at higher speeds and be right on with your timing of your pop and other movements when hitting the larger features.
nice tip thanks, but I find kind of hard that back foot pop thing, I tend too just goo straight ahead with lots of speed and just let myself go, with no pop I think, when I pop too much I feel less confortable in the air.. :s
should I be on a slight toe edge? i cased a 55 foot and landed right on my back knocking myself out last season, I think it was because I was flat based and my board slipped out from under me
@sierrasnowboard I'm fine with jumps, and i'd hit that jump at least 50 times that season, thinking about it, my heel edge fell into a rut, and I let my legs go out from under me, not a good combo at all
@pixaman56 I didn't until I knocked myself out, then I went back to think, and realize that i wasn't consciously (no pun intended) thinking about how I was hitting jumps, and my friends realized the same. Even if you have your shit dialed, reassurance and learning can never hurt you, I have a decent size bag of tricks, but I still look at tutorials for all of them in my free time, to see if I can get better and make sure I'm doing them right.
Next time you get knocked out, I bet you'll check too
@Wiscompton608 Ha its funny that you say that, because I damn near broke my jaw by hitting my face this morning on a little 30 i've probably hit about 50 times this season. I sat back too far on the takeoff and over rotated my 7 and landed on my face. I've been watching spinning tutorials with an ice pack on my neck and chin all day.
@Wiscompton608 It definatly does. I was back out today and everything was good, just a big ass bruise on the jaw. I'll stomp my seven tomorrow for sure ha.
hey can someone help me i am somewhat of a new rider its my 2nd year i can do 3s and sometimes 5 i want to get the capita stairmaster with union contacts i mostly ride freestyle and terrain parks would that set up be good for me? please answer
Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me, i want to get a rome agent with 390 bindings but i wanted to chech if a 2 degree base and side is enough to do boxes and rails without catching my edges on the way down?
So .I get this ,I am supposed to get flat just before i get on the jump.Is that right?

So perhaps you can find a friend that knows a certain jump you want to try and ask him to do the same. It might help. Once you do it you will laugh because it was cake : )
crv26 1 year ago
@crv26 thanks man...ill give it a try--btw where do you board at?
jeWBacca694 1 year ago
@jeWBacca694 once you got the speed down and you are hitting the landing/transition then you can work on ollie and pop. Hope it helps. I want us all to rip " )
crv26 1 year ago
@jeWBacca694 - Get comfortable with the speed and get tons of practice on smaller features with the same design, step down most likely.

I can do an ollie of a jump. But i feel it is more difficult to keep balance in the air when i extend the back leg at the lip of the ramp. Also, when i do a frontside 180, i always keep spinning after landing... When i do a backside 180, i always stop spining at 90 degree in the air... please advice.
billy813 1 year ago
@billy813 - The ollie is more of a complex way to jump off jumps in the park but use it if it works.
Check out the 180 video to clean up your 180s.

@Sierrasnow
I'm a beginner rider. I was told when performing straight runs, you always have to be either toe or heel edge. Is this true? I've seen people hit super fast straight runs at the slope, but their board seems completely flat.
benhogan2007 1 year ago
@benhogan2007 - You can keep the board flat when in a straight run. In the flats is where you are more likely to catch and edge and can benefit from a little bit of an edge.

whe he says extend both legs what does he mean like stand up? cause he dont seem to stand when he jumps
scize08 1 year ago
@scize08 - Extend with a high level of intensity. Don't Stand up but push the legs to make you jump off the takeoff

my problem isn't with popping or getting air, mine is getting control when I land its always a harsh landing
12345678987828 1 year ago
@12345678987828 - You should always make sure the jump has a decent landing before you take flight. The landing should come natural if your take off is done correctly.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago
Ha heres a tip. If you havent snowboarded in 4 years don't do the same stuff you used to be able to, it took a rail a boardslide and a concussion for me to figure this out.

Hey so are you just like lifting your front up and extending your back leg? Are you hopping a bit or just extending your legs?
dangzard 1 year ago
@dangzard - Just stick to extending the legs at first.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago

@dangzard we like tried but she just started making these weird ass sounds so i went and got ski patrol

always when I am gonna jump I lost the control over the board and then I lnd on my back. I dont know what to do to get the control over the board... Do you now that???
TheBKD2010 1 year ago
@TheBKD2010 - Sounds like you need more practice just riding the board straight down the hill. Get comfortable with your straight runs, ollies and speed checks before you start trying to catch air.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago
@sierrasnowboard Hey, I really just started snowboarding and i picked it up pretty easily (*the basics*) i can link turns and go down blues easy so i figured I should try some jumps. I can never really bring myself to pick up a lot of speed and getting air. Any tips? I just find it hard to maintain speed rather than slow myself down. Im a little timid of impact on landing. How bad is it? I'm actually very good on skis and i always go for big air..i just cant do it on a snowboard. Please help, thx
xHDR4317x 1 year ago
@xHDR4317x
I recently started going off jumps and hitting the park a lot and to be honest getting up the balls to hit a jump was the hardest thing for me. I would always bitch out at the last second and end up bailing hard because I would take off weird. Either that or I would slow down so much so that I got only a foot of air of the jump. You just have to push yourself to hit it, man up hit the jump and once you land it once you'll never look back.
chrisgeorge9 1 year ago
what exactly do you mean by 'pop'?
mr0imbord 1 year ago
@mr0imbord - The reaction that happens from the board when you flex it using the legs.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago
@SLJstudios1234 - It is all about getting comfortable on smaller jumps and developing precision in your movements. You need to be comfortable at higher speeds and be right on with your timing of your pop and other movements when hitting the larger features.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago
@SLJstudios1234 here is you tip: hit smaller jumps.
pixaman56 1 year ago
What's harder sticking the landing or poping
younoob214a 1 year ago
@younoob214a - A good pop is what sets you up for a good landing. So Pop is more important.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago
nice tip thanks, but I find kind of hard that back foot pop thing, I tend too just goo straight ahead with lots of speed and just let myself go, with no pop I think, when I pop too much I feel less confortable in the air.. :s
ketchups 1 year ago
@ketchups - Practice the movements out on the hill before you take them to the jumps.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago
should I be on a slight toe edge? i cased a 55 foot and landed right on my back knocking myself out last season, I think it was because I was flat based and my board slipped out from under me
Wiscompton608 1 year ago
@Wiscompton608 - Sounds like you where out of balance. Please avoid that large of jumps until you are more confident jumping from a flat base.
sierrasnowboard 1 year ago
@sierrasnowboard I'm fine with jumps, and i'd hit that jump at least 50 times that season, thinking about it, my heel edge fell into a rut, and I let my legs go out from under me, not a good combo at all
This did help though, thanks
Wiscompton608 1 year ago
@Wiscompton608 you wouldn't think you'd need any help if you've been hitting 55 footers 50 times...
pixaman56 1 year ago
@pixaman56 I didn't until I knocked myself out, then I went back to think, and realize that i wasn't consciously (no pun intended) thinking about how I was hitting jumps, and my friends realized the same. Even if you have your shit dialed, reassurance and learning can never hurt you, I have a decent size bag of tricks, but I still look at tutorials for all of them in my free time, to see if I can get better and make sure I'm doing them right.
Next time you get knocked out, I bet you'll check too
Wiscompton608 1 year ago
@Wiscompton608 Ha its funny that you say that, because I damn near broke my jaw by hitting my face this morning on a little 30 i've probably hit about 50 times this season. I sat back too far on the takeoff and over rotated my 7 and landed on my face. I've been watching spinning tutorials with an ice pack on my neck and chin all day.
pixaman56 1 year ago
@pixaman56 see, shit happens, hope you heal up well
Wiscompton608 1 year ago
@Wiscompton608 It definatly does. I was back out today and everything was good, just a big ass bruise on the jaw. I'll stomp my seven tomorrow for sure ha.

@emielhuughe Don't go too slow. In my opinion, it is worse to go too slow and not make it up, rather than to go to fast and fall.

What degrees do you have your bindings set to?
Also you pop off the ramp when your backfoot is only connected to the ramp right?
