  • you fit it they never came out like that they only came out as 4cylinder and 6 cylinder

you have to have a special paper to drive it though

  • @TheLevendi1996 yes i fitted the engine, it was originally a 2.0. I dunno what country you're in but no special papers needed to drive it on the road in the UK. Just tell DVLA the new engine number and capacity and declare the modifications to the insurance company. Thats all you need to do.

  • It was all looking good until you paned out...

  • @Mwwahaha what were you expecting? It's a cortina

  • did you fit the engine or buy it like that ?

  • tuff

  • looks good man doesnt sound the best ttho

  • Blinky,

you did a good job, its still going strong but is satin black now and in need of a prop bearing

  • is the air filter 10" ?

  • quick response for carburetor engine when accelerating,

  • Really nice...

  • Nice car, loving the Mk4 Grille!

  • The Buick 215 lives on.

  • Very nice build.

  • 25 to 30 is actually very good indeed for a carb v8.

Christ my old 2.0 saab only gives me 25mpg !!!

Of course unlike mine that big engine will be completely unstressed pulling along an old corti !

  • This actually sounds nice and smooth and not the usual over-tuned engines with excessively lumpy cam etc.

Change of carb looks a good idea too, any difference in the fuel economy with the 4 barrel ?

  • yes mpg is way better than su's will ever give plus it goes better too. I get about 25-30 mpg

  • Oh yeah I agree completely, getting rid of the SU's was one of the best things you could do to this engine.

Interesting though that the webber was named under edelbrock.

Edlbrock is'nt really known too well in the UK.

  • thanks for your help i have got my rover v8 running(after 8 years of stood in a feild) i just stripped the su carbs and cleaned them and them i had a problem with the condencer on the dizzy so i am ordering a meleri distibutor from rpi and hope fully get anuf money to get an edelbrook 4 barrel carb and offi manfold

  • have you got any clue where i could get a digram for su carbs and where did you get your carb and how mutch? is it a webber or edlebrook

  • forget su's, they're crap, they strangle the engine., inneficient with shite fuel economy. weber 500 came from rpi and was about £300 from memory. carb is a weber but is marketed by edelbrock and so has the edelbrock name.. edelbrock performer manifold came from v8 developments and was about £170. it's expensive but the gains are worthwhile

  • I will have a look around when I eventually get it resprayed but I think its ok as I dont drive like a twat! handling is fine, well it handles like a cortina!! Engine mounts were made by magnum engineering and the gearbox mount is a cortina 4 speed mount turned round the wrong way with the holes elongated to line up with the holes in the body. Propshaft is a rover/cortina hybrid home made by my good self. Other home brewed parts are rad mounts etc.

  • What capacity is this engine and from what Rover??

  • 3.5 litre from a rover sd1

  • Thx :D I want buy one to mine Taunus MK1 :D

  • What reinforcments have u done to the shell?

U know the 2.3 cortina was strengthened right and they split with big power!

    Lovely conversion, what tranny?

  • None. shell copes fine as standard. Engine has been in it for 2 years now and I've had no problems and I use it every day. Tranny is a borg warner 66 auto.

  • Cool, keep a close eye on spot weld areas for cracks/ splits, the handling kind of gets funny when the body loses rigidity with age also.

Few seam welds would be good.

U make ur own mountings etc then?

  • cool

  • I would have thought that a windsor 302/351 would have been the go.

  • Not when its my daily driver. Sure, I love big american V8's but I can't afford to run one every day.

  • its because the rover V8 is small!!! you need a big block 455 engine!

  • Rover V8 is about the same size externally as a small block chevy and wider than a 302 ford

  • I bet the alloy v8 is lighter than the pinto engine? definately lighter than the for v6 essex or cologne.

  • Its about 20 lbs heavier than the pinto and considerably lighter than the essex or cologne V6

  • Great car - motor looks great as well, love the detailing!

  • why does the v8 look so small? is it a big car or something?

  • very nice! ive only got a wiezzy 2.8 v6 in my mk4
