  • Sim. O tema de Jornada nas Estrelas o filme foi tambem de toda a serie de filmes Jornada nas Estrelas 2-3-5-6-7-8-9-10-11 e da Nova Geraçao na serie de Tv

  • Isn't this also the theme to Star Trek the Next Generation?

  • I've heard this theme in the oenng credits for the production company? What is that studio?

  • the fade-in ruins the beginning

  • My fave :D

  • They should do one of their movies in memory of those lives lost on 9/11.

They did ST-IV:The Voyage Home for the Shuttle Challenger crew after the Challenger disaster on 28 Jan, 1986

  • @kd4adv AGREED!

  • @kd4adv They did: ST4 was released the same year, and included a mention of them before the credits rolled.

  • @Tizmaole 9/11 happened on Sept 11, 2001 not January 28, 1986

  • @kd4adv I read too fast: get off my back.

  • There should be a techno remix of this!

  • @dude75able

It's not quite techno but there's a funky disco version of it. Search on youtube for "OPIyAeS4IQ0"

  • @GetOverHere83 cool, man.

    Thanks.

    "Live long and prosper!"

  • JJ Abram's Star Trek used the original theme in the movie. He must use this theme for the next one! You're right, it is the most identifiable theme even for non-Star Trek fan or casual Star Trek fan like me.

  • I think the main theme for the 2009 star trek is great, but this is the best and most glorious star trek theme!!!!

  • I thought this was weird, hearing it for the first time, since I watched TNG first (born in Feb 1991)

  • The best theme for Star trek. RIP Jerry Goldsmith.

  • Star Trek: The Next Generation theme??

  • @Gamma412 Umm...........this came out about 8 years before that. TNG just happened to choose this for their opening theme.

  • @Gamma412 Oh wait, actually I do see what you mean now. Yeh, I think this was the theme specifically from TNG.

  • @dude75able I've yet to see 2001. I really want to see it, but there's not enough hours in the day to watch everything I want to watch. LOL

  • @SpockNation I know the feeling.

Sometimes there's not enough to do every thing

  • @SpockNation Watch it. If you love Star Trek, you've gotta love 2001.

  • @dude75able I'm not surprised. Hey, whatever pays the bills, right? I just don't like it when people like JJ Abrams tried to cross Star Wars stories with Star Trek. Like you said, it's two different stories. k

  • Honestly, 2001 is the best film ever. I just wish there was more action.

  • fine:

    STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE:ok

STAR TREK 5: THE FINAL FRONTIER: it wasn't Shatner's fault.

    STAR TREK (2009): good

    I like good sci-fi.

Example: The DUNE book series is EXCELLENT while the 1984 was AWFUL and the Remake was slightly better.

  • Personally, I like this theme better than the one from the Original TV series. This theme just seems to have more emotion to it, in my opinion anyway.

  • Star Trek the Motion Picture: AWFUL Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan: EXCELLENT Star Trek 3: The Search for Spock: EXCELLENT Star Trek 4: The Voyage Home: GOOD Star Trek 5: The Final Frontier: OK Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country: EXCELLENT Star Trek Generations: GOOD Star Trek First Contact: EXCELLENT Star Trek Insurrection: AWFUL Star Trek Nemesis: EXCELLENT STAR TREK 2009: EXCELLENT Galaxy Quest: EXCELLENT
  • @dude75able you rate TMP as awful, and you rate TFF as ok and ST09 as excellent? How are you rating these???

TMP was just as epic as WOK, but in a more understated way. It is a movie of new beginnings, and of coming home. All while performing in pajamas.

TFF was just terrible. Could have possibly been a good movie if Shatner had not been behind the whole thing.

And ST09 had more plot holes than swiss cheese. That's what we get for entrusting our beloved franchise to a Star Wars fan.

  • @SpockNation I went by entertainment value.

  • @dude75able okay, I can see that...and don't get me wrong-I've got nothing against a little action/adventure. This is scifi after all! Plus, my favorite Star Trek movie is Wrath of Khan, so I guess I can't really say much :D

  • @SpockNation I'm curious how you would rate the Star Wars films!

  • @dude75able *grins* oh gosh, am I that obvious? To be honest, I really wasn't ever impressed by the Star Wars franchise...I don't know why. Not to say the movies are bad, 'cause they're not. I just don't prefer them. Of course, that was several years ago when I tried watched the movies, so I probably ought to give the franchise a second chance. Actually, that's why I don't like ST09. Too much Star Wars for a Star Trek film :)

  • @SpockNation Never wished to see Darth Vader fight the Borg?

C'mon buddy... what's wrong with you?

  • @dude75able love your new ratings of the movies! LOL I like good scifi (and some bad too...Plan 9, anyone?) too...just not Star Wars. Not really sure why. Guess it's just a preference. I do want to give Star Wars another shot sometime. Hmm....Darth Vader v. the Borg is an interesting combination! I'm intrigued, but I think that the two franchises should remain independent of one another, even if just for originality's sake.

  • @SpockNation Yeah, true. But did you know that ILM (the fx company that did STAR WARS) also worked on the TREK films? The two genres are closely related.

They are different though. STAR TREK is about a vision of the future, a positive one.

STAR WARS is more like a swords and sorcerers fantasy set in a galaxy far away. I just can't choose.

I was a major Star Wars fan when i was a kid. High School is where i became a Trekkie. Probably because it is an adult Sci Fi.

  • Star Trek > Star Wars for eternity!!!

  • It's the STNG theme!!!!

  • Jerry Goldsmith will be more famous than Bethoveen in 25-50 years

  • @Mrtrekkie156 Bold statement! Big shoes to fill does Goldsmith!

  • I would give an arm and a leg to serve under Capt. Kirk

    RIP USS ENTERPRISE NCC-1701-A

    -/\-

  • Jerry Goldsmith died after a long battle with colon cancer on July 21,2004.

  • wrath of khan was a better film with a better score.

  • As much as I LOVE THIS THEME...I was glad it wasn't in the last film because...

THEY WEREN'T READY FOR ITS EPIC AWESOMENESS YET!

I mean, let's be real about this, FIRST you need Kirk and Crew to get together so they can have the TV Theme...

NOW that they're ready to really get going, and Trek can be reborn, NOW they may try and prove themselves worthy of the Theme the Enterprise Heroes, of Kirk and Picard! (Arhcer? Pfff...he's not fit to polish Kirk's boots or make Picard tea!)

  • Saw STAR TREK I part of 5 feature run Trekie marathon day mostly in 70mm from STAR TREK II onwards at the CIC Empire Leicester Square, London October 8th 1989 for just £10.00 for that you get uniform low end JBL screen bass sub bass and surround in Lucasfilm THX sound system! It was out of this world never felt the James Horner score sounding so better before.

STAR TREK the motion picture sounded more like 70mm Dolby stereo than optical that’s how good the THX with Dolby EQ at the Empire.

  • the uniforms in this movie looked like pajamas what went wrong where was the yellow and red and blue uniforms LOL

  • One of the most memorable movie themes from the seventies!

  • Star Trek, the Motion Picture was on HBO a few weeks ago. I had already seen it as a kid back when it came out 30 years ago. When I heard this opening title a few weeks ago, I was so surprised because I had always associated it with Star Trek, The Next Generation theme on TV. For a moment I had even thought the movie was re-made with The Next Generation music. I'm still surprised that this originated from the Motion Picture - very catchy theme song. This & Star Trek 2 themes are my favorites.

  • My new ringtone

  • Jerry, you live on in your music ...

  • Thanks for the memories. ^^

  • One of several Oscars Goldsmith was robbed of....

  • Idk... outdated? Oscar didnt exist back then? i have no clue

  • @ussreliant1 Yeah, they didn't have the Oscars back then. The Academy Award was first awarded in 1929.

  • Why didn't this song get the Oscar?!

  • I love this theme. It's so uplifting and triumphant. I would play it at my wedding. Or my funeral. Or my college graduation.

  • i wish they would invent starships and warp speed before we die so we could travel in space

  • I love both Horner and Goldsmith's themes. They are both great music.

  • this is 1979, the tng theme was worked off of this after the orginal tv theme was rejected.

  • @Deadq they made the wrong choice

  • This sounds very similar to the theme for ST:TNG

  • Continued: There are some basic similarities in both Horner's and Goldsmith's main themes and Horner's aggressive music for Khan is typical Goldsmith action writing (Klingon Theme and some ideas from The Wind & The Lion). I'm not taking anything away from Horner, I just think Goldsmith's score is the better of the two, while Horner's is the more exciting.

  • The Goldsmith Vs Horner theme debate. Horner's score is excellent and imaginatively arranged. But Horner is scoring a fast moving, character-driven film - a lot of fun and has some real emotional punch. Goldsmith scored a slow-moving, pretty cerebral movie with large scope, but thin story and under-developed characters. I think Goldsmith had the more difficult job and I think his socre is more mature (he was at the height of his powers at the time). Horner music owes a bit to Goldsmith.

  • not the doug murray??

  • The best Star Trek theme, without question! My favourite variation of this is the lush 'Ilia's Theme' from the first film. I hope it comes to the fore in subsequent Abrams Trek movies.

  • if they don't use this in the next movie ill raise hell

  • HAHAHA you tell em'!!

  • Doesn't really FIT the new films, though...

This was for the Original Series Crew when they got older and the Enterprise was refitted...

They're just starting on their 5-year mission now, LOVE that ending in the last movie, Nimoy (Shatner would have been nice, but I understand the choice of Nimoy) giving the speech, warp sped, and then the TOS original music, newly upbeat, to go with the newly worked uniforms and ships...

They won't get to THIS theme for a while... ;)

    But I love it

  • @Deadq They didn't.....don't rais ALL of hell....If you do, Star Trek would be destroyed :(

  • Comment removed

  • I'm trying to decide if I like the fact that they didn't use this theme in the new movie

  • no I think they used this theme once in the movie..in fact Im sure they did

  • when? they used the original theme from the show as the closing credits, but i don't recall this theme.

  • I belive right when james enters the ship yard but I could be wrong

  • nope, they don't use it anywhere in the new movie. you can check.

  • For game show fans out there, the ST: TMP theme was used as a prize cue in a recurring Showcase theme known as "The Time Capsule" on "The Price is Right." Goldsmith composed a classic theme!

  • Goldsmith version is better then TNG.

  • yup

  • I like that they continued the theme in TNG as well. It kinda reminded people about the original and where all of it came from.

  • Dennis McCarthy composed an original theme for TNG, but TPTB didn't like it and decided to use the TMP theme instead.

  • Is it online somewhere?

  • Search for "Alternate ST: TNG Theme" on YouTube.

  • Horner wishes he could match this. Jerry Goldsmith was a genius.

  • I think both themes are great, but I like Goldsmith's a lot more.

  • @krazie835 Completely agreed! Both good, especially Goldsmith. I was pissed when he died of cancer.

  • @krazie835 Indeed, but I wish that Horner's theme could have gotten a slot on a TV show.

  • 1 wasn’t lucky he voted down! I guess he was on epsilon 9 when it got carbon patterned along with everyone else?
