i wasnt that bad.the whatchamacallit of dr parnassus terry gilmore fucked by the actor dying and the attempts to do a good final edit. edit without al his scenes completed
@markmarktarmann it was a pretty damn good film to say the main actor died part way through. Plus it's directed by Terry Gilliam, who can do no wrong in my eyes. Three of some of my favourite people, Tom Waits, Johnny Depp, Terry Gilliam. Can't be bad.
@SufferinSuccotash89 i love just about everything gilliam's done. great cast, director, scri......well, they had to throw out the script for the last part i'm fairly sure. maybe you can explain it to me. cuz i couldn't follow it. gilliam's movies are great but they aren't THAT deep or
difficult to understand. the first half was good. the rest , a mess.
@markmarktarmann Nah I do see what you mean, the ending was got pretty sketchy. In a way I forgave that for the great visuals. I'm not sure if I can explain the end to you. I don't whether that's because I haven't seen it in ages or because I didn't get it in the first place.
the best part of these interviews is to watch the hosts squirm and fake their way through interviews they are completely ill prepared and over their heads in..so many of these interviewers are seen for the dolts they are when they interview a genius such as waits...the genius mind surpasses them, is more calm and relaxed, more self assured
@muzicsalesman Tom is MASSIVE in Australia, but he doesn't come here either. When my girlfriend moved here she couldn't believe how many people loved Tom's music. I guess touring lost it's allure...
It's hard to believe that once there was something of this quality on Australian TV. I only wish I'd been old enough to make it to a Tom Waits show when he still toured...
at 2:28 when everyone laughing, it looks like tom thinks 'why are you laughing, that wasnt suppose to be funny', i think it is wierd that the crowd is laughing so much, and dosent really take him serious.
Better than the first Don Lane show, that's for sure. This time neither Lane nor Waits are the worst, the audience is. STOP LAUGHING AT EVERY UTTERING!!!!!
he says unusual style at the beginning. I don't think its unusual. Its called being original and a cool motherfucker. I've just being getting into rain dogs, I'm thirty and consider myself quite musically savvy but I don't know why I've waited this long to get into this man, better late than never.
@itslikeframingapear Better late than never. I'm 17 and even though I've been listening to him since I was a child, I still find new facets to him. He truly is an incredible man.
& it's too cute how Tom gets this huge smirk on his face when he gets caught by Don Lane! "You weren't on anything though, that was just you." *looks away with giant grin* LOL!
Aw he started smoking again?! Lame! Did he finally just quit altogether?! I hate that for him, I hope he kicked the habit for good. I don't see him smoking in new interviews, but I don't know.
david17divad17; Don Lane brought the Johnny Carson style of tonight show to Australia - he copied Carson as did Letterman, O'Brien...all of them. Carson did the 'sitting behind a desk thing' changing the presenting style thjat Ed Sullivan did...the standing in front of the camera style.
If anyone copied Letterman blatantly it was Steve Vizard...anyone remember his pathetic show??? identical format even down to the 'joking with the musical director' bit.
Apparently when they were filming for Jim Jarmusch's Coffee and Cigarettes in 1993, both Waits and Iggy Pop were really unhappy with Jarmusch about having to smoke as they had both given up
the interviewers a prick.....seems like letterman took his inspiration from this guy.....talentless motherfucker with a pathetic sense of humour assuming an air of condescension.
Why is it that people seem to think that Don Lane is being condescending towards Tom Waits. He is obviously enamoured with him and is happy to see him again. The interplay between the two seems quite genuine especially at the end when Don says over the din of the crowd, "We'll be back in a minute Tome Waits is going to sing..." and then with almost sadness that the audience doesn't really get it, "...you'll see."
I like when he's talking about how he met 14 yr. old island girl and saved her from an active volcano. "he's one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet." haha. It either took a while or the audience didn't get it...including Don.
I remember this so well - thousands of people phoned Channel Nine after the show to complain that Mr Waits was stoned during the interview and Lane said on the following weeks show that Waits was simply being himself.
your idiol don lane came to adelaide sth aust. his fuk mate was rick marshel a pedo. ricks son at the mo is on pedo chargers. rick snr. is also dieing they can all rot in hell. dig you info pedo my mate at the age of 13 was raped by those cunts. in the 70s fuk you and your pedo cocksmokers. if in aussie we will bash you like the fag you are. if in sth aust ,more than happy to bash you fag.
sclogse1, What you say certainly has some substance; there has been a paedo ring operating in SA for decades and involved are many top lawyers, politicians, police and celebrities which is why it has never been smashed. And probably never will be. Many young men and boys have disappeared in that state...
I'm not saying Lane was involved but the activities are well known in top circles believe me! Ex-Premier Don Dunstan...enough said.
Tom Waits normally have few words for interviews because he spares the best ones and his voice for the absolutely great, charming music he put in our hearts... Live long for us, Tom!
Great interview. Don Lane loved him so much last time I think that he seems rather nervous this time around. I think he wanted to have great interview and everyone to enjoy him or maybe he was hoping for Waits to open up or something. He seemed much more reticent this time around than last time. Interesting.
I think Tom played Don...liked him...but wasn't a big interview on tv kinda guy. These days Tom is very open on interviews...unless you make some of the lame comments Jon Stewart did....like wanting to get drunk with him and lay in the gutter...
