@twenty2082 Hey, I never replied to this it seems (thought I did). I don't like that alley behind the stores (where the mural is) due to rivers of urine across the path from the homeless n others hanging there nor the broken glass from the recycle center all over the place. The parking lot there, even with cars and carts, is much better.
I miss San Francisco. I did a tour hear (music student) and really fell for it. Your a lucky guy, cycling here sure beats soggy Manchester (UK). If I ever go again I have made a promise to myself to do the ride out into the hills and try to ride Repack.
@tjsr21 Hey sorry I rarely login to YouTube and did not notice the comment. Yeah we do have great riding here and if you are back and have time, the Repack experience is definitely worth the effort. If you can come for Thanksgiving, the Klunkers gang still ride the appetite seminar, and that ride too is definitely worth hitting. It finishes down Repack and you can do it with the legends. Otherwise, either the Pine Mountain loop or doing Boyscout and hitting Repack are still fun. Thanks again
very cool. I was glad when you lost the guy in the purple t-shirt. Really like the music, thanks for saying what it was in the description. great sculpture. Again, very cool.
@thepartyof4 Thanks. Riding to and from work is really a great way to see your city. Recently I have had to ride the bus or train a lot and notice how little of the outside world you see. I cannot imagine how it is for people that drive cars.
Usually YouTube comments are terrible and I dread getting one, but yours is great. Thanks for participating.
@ShozDijiji You are so welcome! I don't get the folks who "speak" on You Tube in a way they never would in regular life. My husband and I used to ride our bikes everywhere, work and play-even put the first kid on the back of our bikes. I miss it and am just getting back on the bike, myself. Your video just adds to my motivation!
We live in Missoula, MT, a beautiful university town that's inside and backed up against a valley. You can imagine the terrain and the views! Anyway, thanks again.
Not really. It is a cyclocross bike (Surly Crosscheck) and it is a singlespeed and has knobby tires (as you might have guessed since I hit the trails in the park on the way.
Hey there Ever415. I ride a Black Surly Crosscheck single speed. I ride it on and off road, and commute almost daily in downtown etc. I will watch for the Mercier and give each I see a shout.
I did notice at 1:24 the motorcycle passing you on the right. Is that even legal, or can they be ticketed for that? I know that passing on the right is illegal here in Michigan.
I don't run red lights actually ..... well there are some parts of the city where you would not want to be sitting at a light, late at night or early in the morning and then I most certainly do. But for the commute, I only break rules necessary to not be killed (or to piss of someone in an SUV, smoking and talking on the phone)
This was done with a plain ol point and shoot, a Panasonic Lumix LC33 to be exact. The quality is quite a bit better before sizing and compressing for YouTube.
I am not sure I understand your question but if you mean, odd or different folks, well ... sure this is a very diverse, multi ethnical and culturally rich city, which might seem odd to someone not used to such a place. Nobody here is looked upon differently or singled out in anyway, not the most artistic, the best athletes, the brainiest engineers, nor the most simple person.
Oh , and but yes, as another commenter mentioned, a republican convention might be the best place to find some really strange folks if you really need to see em.
Nice to see, that you also in SF in the land of cars have made some bike roads. But surely not for kids and elderly people. Keep on make it more safe. PS. Where is the wood part.. We come to SF this summer, maybe renting some bikes.. Birger Copenhagen.
Thanks all, in response to starbucksmunky, the video was better quality before uploading. I tried many sizes and encoding methods. This was best. Oh, I have since filmed two other rides in san Francisco. One is a commute starting before dawn and the sun is rising throughout. It goes down near the bridge and through the marina and to downtown. Editing that one now. Coming soon. My bike is a surly crosscheck single speed (with knobbies).
I should add that some of the bad quality is also due to the fact that this was a long long video and getting it to be under 100 meg was also difficult. So it was the combination of something that would be under 100 meg, that also would not get stretched or encoded in some bad way (not too bad) by YouTube.
But even with all that, I have gotten some nice notes (like those here) and else where about it. So thanks for those. Will see if I can do better next time.

Yeah, that is no way legal, and just some of what we have to deal with. Really the streets are not bike friendly here.

lol, did you somehow miss the lane splitting, and running red lights?

The country area is actually a large park right in the middle of the city, but we love it.

Hey thanks, the streets are not exactly for kids no, but it is getting better. Far from Copenhagen or Amsterdam for sure.
The woody area is in the Golden Gate Park. There are bike rental places around the park.
