  • Time for the 18g...

  • I have an 02 wagon, but I would be afraid to push 21 psi. Any reliability issues? Is this a daily driver?

  • Whats E85? Im assuming thats gas?

  • @armyjeff147 It's an alcohol and gas mix. It is made from corn and has a great ability to reduce knock which is what kills engines. It isn't all that efficient though, you generally lose mpg's when you do it. Also running e85 on a WRX is a bad idea, the fuel systems are not made to handle the alcohol. It will corrode the gas tank and the fuel lines and eventually work it's way into the motor. Give it another year or so and you will see. Meth injection is the only way to go.

  • this is awesome man i love subies, i have an 06 st i with some mods but i love the 02' was my first real car haha nice job man

  • the 1 person who dislikes this is gay an drives a prius...

  • Dude, 21lbs of boost? I know someone that modifies subarus for a living and done many projects... 21lbs of boost is way too much for that car.

  • @MetroidSavior, I have been running 22PSI for the last 4 years. My everyday driver, raced rallycross, and AutoCross, and a few runs down the strip, still going strong, not sure who your friend is, and not sure if you are talking about on a stock ECU with mild tuning, but on a standalone system no problems bud.

  • @CrownGear Well, he has had three Subarus that he has built (real estate buisness didn't go so hot) and he had tuned them to around 18-20lbs of boost and the headers kept failing. Obviously you can have a sub that lasts many years on high boost, but it will eventually die. Also, your car isn't a 2.0l wrx engine. It's an STI block. I have another friend with a 450hp to the wheels 2000 RS with 2008 STI block. He runs ~24lbs and it runs fine. It's different engines.

  • @MetroidSavior Well you are right it is an STI 2.0L JDM block, but no engine last for ever. I forgot they are differant cause my redline is 8000rpm.

I stand corrected, even after many builds I still forget, I build JDM 2.0L's and USDM/JDM 2.2L Turbos

    Cheers

  • @CrownGear No problem, I still lack quite a bit of knowledge about WRXs but they guy made quite a point about not exeding 16lbs of boost on a 2.0 wrx. Them JDMs are nice cause you can get a bunch with 54,000 miles for cheap. :-) gotta love Chinas emissions laws!

  • @MetroidSavior i had 18lbs of boost on my 05 wrx and beat the piss out of it but it ran like a clock...it seemed that the turbo would fail from some boost creep issues i had rather than the engine failing...she ran great..

  • @MetroidSavior oh and that was with an 05 sti turbo...on the 2.0

  • wtf is e85?

  • I can't believe anyone would take a mustang over this thing... just makes no sense...

  • not bad for a stock motor 2.0 wrx that means he could keep up with an STI with bolt ons

  • gay

  • saounds like honda is a bullshitter about the cars he owns, if you own a crappy civic you most defintaly dont have all those cars you mentioned prob some spanish dude just making it by with his 2,000 dollar haaanda roookm roooooom vtec yooo

  • anyone else notice no fans for the TMIC? .... never seen a car on a dyno before with no fans...

  • No shit the numbers are low compared to yours cus your running an 18g , he's running a 16g. You have an Sti bottom end, he's running completely stock internals. That's why he's about 45 whp less than you are. 16g is about the same as a vf34,39,or 48 turbo but may just put out slightly more ( 5-20 whp depending on tune)

  • He's also running E85. AND running 7 more psi. My Subaru is only running 14 psi right now. Now if I ran methanol, and turned the boost up to 21 psi (at his boost level, and comparable to E85) I would make 410-430 awhp, which is 110-130 more than his. I was just stating that he should be in the neighborhood of around 330 awhp/340 tq at 21 psi. ESPECIALLY on E85.

  • Wow you have a WRX, EVO, Civic, and a 63 impala show car? Yeah then what the fuck are you doing on youtube?

  • Because of no matter what I have, I'm still just a car guy. This is why I'm on Youtube. If you go to myspace and do a search use my username on here and you can check them out, all except the WRX as I have yet to put pics up of it. I haven't updated for a LONG time on there but all the cars are on there including a S2000 that was sold, and a 350Z which I traded for the WRX.

  • @hondab16tuner Agreed. These are shitty numbers given his mod list.

  • @hondab16tuner Agreed. These are shitty numbers given his mod list.

  • @hondab16tuner Yeah but you can't push that much power out of a USDM 2.0L. He probably tuned the car to make that level of hp based on what the 2.0L internals can handle safely. I agree on e85 he should be able to make way better power but those weak rods can only take so much.

  • @hondab16tuner methanol and E85 are not the same thing. Why are you comparing a hypothetical version of your car with 1.5x the boost at better fuel?

  • @flamebowi You are thinking of something different. The methanol I'm talking about is the injection kit. My car was running 93 PUMP gas, no methanol, had a Deadbolt 18g turbo and at 14 psi made right at 400 awhp. As a matter of fact we just tuned a 02 WRX with the STOCK turbo that ONLY had a APS 3.5 inch exhaust, APS intake and Snow performance methanol injection. The car made 362 AWHP, and 343 tq. Remember STOCK turbo. If you read the description HIS CAR WAS AT 21 PSI.

  • @hondab16tuner Again, running methanol injection/ or just straight methanol will give you better detonation prevention than E85, so if the tunes are done accordingly, the same setups would be able to run a higher/safer boost number on methanol injection (from an aquamist etc..) I believe correction factors played a major roll in you achieving a 362 hp, 343 tq on a stock turbo which was past its operating range.

  • @flamebowi Sorry about your hypothesis, but it was on a Mustang dyno, AKA heartbreaker dyno. This one runs about 12% less than AMS's Dynojet. I know for a fact because my Evo was tuned on BOTH of these dyno's. Dyno tune 1 on Mustang Dyno was 368 awhp, took to AMS did 444. Tuned at AMS that day, made 546 AWHP. Drove STRAIGHT to mustang dyno, made 477 awhp.

  • @hondab16tuner All I was saying was that your numbers are unrealistic. You are not going to make a larger hp value than torque value maxing out the stock turbo. No matter which dyno you have supposedly run.

  • @flamebowi 99% of the time you will make more HP than TQ. The key is the tune. Believe it or not most of your power when tuning comes from ignition timing and not fuel. You can add or take away fuel all you want and no matter what if the timing isn't spot on you aren't going to make any power. The numbers I said he should be making are actually low for his setup. On a 16g running E85 and 21 psi he should be 330-350 whp and around the same torque.

  • @hondab16tuner You cant really "blanket statement" 99% of the time the engine will make more power than torque. But you can go under the assumption, that a turbo being boosted to its max operating range, will not be able to carry the same psi @ 6000 that it does @4000, which is why you have higher torque values than hp in that condition. Show me a video of the stock turbo holding consistent boost from peak torque rpm, to redline. This is all independent of tune and timing.

  • @flamebowi There are literally TONS of WRX cars here on Youtube that are making more power than he is on stock turbo and pump gas. People believe what they want to believe. My Evo8 was a STOCK internal car with the ONLY mods being a Peakboost GT3076R, Snow performance methanol kit, Trust titanium exhaust, XS Engineering intercooler, ARP headstuds, Buddy Club 264/272 cams, and a AEM EMS. The car made 546 AWHP and 498tq. on AMS's Dynojet, and 477 AWHP and 422 tq. on the Mustang.

  • @flamebowi OH, SHIT! I now see what you were talking about! That was supposed to be 262 AWHP and 243 TQ. on the 14 psi. spiking at 16 psi. I didn't proof read my post. That's my fault. I was just showing that a stock turbo WRX got REALLY close to his numbers on very little mods. E85 makes a lot more power than Pump gas, so his numbers should be more than what he got. Also

  • @hondab16tuner the numbers you have now posted are realistic.

  • dyno's were probably different. if he's running a 12.8 then it's got power. what are your 1/4 numbers?

  • @Billboard2001 dyno's make a huge diff....im at 300awhp and im running low 12's on 93 pump gas......05wrx

  • @Billboard2001 great point

  • for one. give him credit for tuning it. im sure he will add more power as time goes by. two, your username has honda in it so you have no room to talk.

  • My Honda makes 700+ fwhp on 40 psi of boost. Has full interior, full sound system, power steering, and A/C. JG Engine Dynamics bottom end, Skunk2 head, AEM EMS, GT35R Garrett, Snow Performance methanol, plus tons of other goodies. Also own a 546 AWHP 05 Evo running 31 psi stock block, GT30R, AEM EMS, and a 1963 impala showcar. So no I have no room to talk......

  • i wanna see. vids/pics?

  • Lol, you're lieing.

  • look up my myspace just use my username on here it has pics of the build.

  • also look up streetsports1 here on youtube, it has 2 videos of my evo on the dyno.

  • @hondab16tuner ehh from what i understand, evo 8s can only hold max 450-480 stock block before you knock or shoot a rod.

  • @choco1ate this is true if you don't run methanol, which I am. Also E85 will allow more boost/power. Basically when running methanol/E85 say at 30 psi, its like running 24-26 psi due to cooler temps in the combustion chamber. I was also told that the stock transmission wouldn't hold up to the power, but after a year still no problems. Still running stock transmission, differential, and axles.

  • @hondab16tuner ya but dont try any clutch dumps.....are extremely hard luanches....replacing trannys...(lol...trannys) is not a super fun thing...TRUST ME...

  • @hondab16tuner You also have a bigger bottom end, and a bigger turbo... I would hope you made more power. Maybe he didnt want to go balls to the wall. Stock 2.0L blocks lifespan decreases dramatically past 300whp

  • thanks man...i allways thought the 18g was better...thanks a lot really appriciate it

  • hello im wondering if anyone can answer this question for me. i have a 2002 wrx and i want to get a bigger turbo but my goal is around 300whp. if i get an sti turbo you think i can get to my goal?

  • nope, not on a vf39. you really want to look at an 18g with the sti top mount, 300 whp is very easy with that turbo.

  • yes you can. Just run meth and you should be at 330 or so.

  • what size injectors are those

  • Looking at buying an 02 wrx turbo, and here I find another SD guy running one and on E85 no less....NICE.

  • You just need bigger injectors and tune your ECU to run E85 thats all you need.

  • stock internals? transmission?

  • hello wat the fuck how r u

  • only 300hp off 21 psi bumer

  • well thats whp... I'd say damn good. especially considering its awd and only an ej205. Also depends on the dyno, elevation, etc. Nice scoob man.

  • I hit 301whp at over a mile high elevation in Colorado...thats pretty damn good....stock internals, stock tranny

  • mods list plz?

    ur bug sounds sick!

    i gota '03 bug-i ;) o and nice #'s for a 16g

  • Awesome numbers for 16G on e85. Nice.

  • 300wtq thats LOT of tq...i made 270 wtq and 300whp with my 02 with vf34

  • what kind of rims? ive been lookin for ones just like those

  • that sounds amazing. props to u man. im trying to save up for a WRX myself.

    MOD LIST

  • i have a stock 02 blaze yellow wrx. i need help building it! fresh motor to work on!

  • yeah what 16g you got on

  • what kind of turbo?

  • mod list please :)

its cars like yours that make me wanna get me a MY02 wrx

  • not bad for ethanol

  • SWEEET!!!!

  • stock tranny?

  • nice torque numbers.

  • OK thanks

  • hey did you need anything special to run E85..............thanks i need to know....i have the same set up basically

  • big injectors and some sort of EMS thats about it

  • @WhiteWRXx You don't need an EMS. You can tune the stock ECM to run E85.

You need injectors (Bigger the better), a Walbro 255lph fuel pump, and a tune. I would recommend CAMtuning in New Mexico. They're great with E85. Or P&L in Chicago.
