  • I probably shouldnt be watching this late at night...that defense is going to bring back nightmares

  • thank god rich rodreguiez is gone..

  • As a Buckeye fan I hope Hoke brings back the defense. The Game just isn't the same with it being a blow out every year.

  • @TheTwiggs92 The Game also isn't the same with OSU's program being corrupt. Now that Tressel's gone, hopefully the rivalry will go back to being two CLEAN programs playing for a birth in the Rose Bowl or better...the way it SHOULD be.

  • The 42 was nice, the 37 was inexcusable. Thank God for Hoke and Mattison. I seriously wanted to walk on that field myself I couldn't stand it.

  • i'm so sick of michigan playing FCS schools they've played three lost to one killed one and almost got beat this time. you would think they would quit doing it, but maybe brady hoke will stop scheduling them

  • lol at 8:40 "when Calvin Mcgee went to Deerfield Beach to recruit Denard Robinson the coaches new he was there" ............ i know its out of context but sounds kinda funny

  • umass dline is so bad

  • worse d ever. EVER!

  • Our defense is gonna blow, and was always gonna blow this season. They just pulled 2 pretty decent games outta their ass for the first 2 games. Give'em credit. But eventually they were gonna be themselves again. And kicking game, wow, enough said. Oh and Denard is the man. Im not gonna make season predictions, cause everytime i do, we have a losing season, lol. But Denard gives hope.

    Go Blue!

  • Once again...another game that warrants the firing of Greg Robinson. There is no excuse to yield that many points/yards to an inferior team like UMass. I feel kind of bad for the offense because they have to constantly pick up the slack of the defense.

  • @MikeLawrey32

I recommend being less of an irrational, ignorant ass.

  • @TheZooCrew Well throwing out random insults is one thing, but backing it up is another. Lol, if your taking my opinion personal, its sounds like you are having a hard time facing reality. We had experience on our defense last year, and look how many games we blew due to poor defense. Let's see....Greg Robinson, career at Syracuse...hmm..10-37?!?!?! His average margin of loss grew every year over his tenure. His recruiting rankings averaged 53rd in the nation. Why wouldn't I doubt this guy

  • @MikeLawrey32

"Why wouldn't I doubt this guy"

Mostly because we hired him as a defensive coordinator, not as a head coach, smart guy. Charlie Weis is a fantastic offensive coordinator, but look how great of a head coach he was. GERG handled excellent defenses in the pros and at Texas as a DC.

"We had experience on our defense last year, and look how many games we blew due to poor defense."

Bullshit. MLBs, Graham and Warren, maybe, and Jay Hopson was a terrible linebackers coach.

  • @TheZooCrew Well now your making progress, and I have some substance to work with here, BUT, you're telling me that you want to sit around and hope that this guy gets his act together? If you can't get a pass rush on 3 bad teams you have a problem, and it's only going to make your secondary more vulnerable. You can call me negative or ignorant or whatever, but I demand a championship caliber team, (offense, defense, and special teams)...and we are no where close with the coaches we have.

  • @MikeLawrey32

"I demand a championship caliber team"

You'll have to take up this issue with Lloyd Carr. Go to mgoblog and search "decimated defense." Read all three parts. It's an in-depth analysis of how our defense has been shot since 2003 and we basically covered it up and got lucky with defensive injuries up until 2008 when we had a major graduation and attrition issue and had to play guys who should have been lifetime backups.

  • @MikeLawrey32

Aside from 2006, we never HAD a championship caliber team with Lloyd Carr. I give most of the credit for 1997 to Gary Moeller, who recruited and coached most of those players in their freshman season and hired the coordinators who stuck around.

Coaching only goes so far. Do you blame the teacher EVERY TIME when the class doesn't score over 90% on every exam when the teacher doesn't write it?

GERG currently holds a winning record at Michigan. 9-7.

  • @MikeLawrey32

I'm glad you're not stubborn in an absolute sense like most get-off-my-lawn and what's-a-forward-pass types.

  • @TheZooCrew so 3 true freshmen in depth chart at corners is experience to you? Roh? 1 year of starting? HES BETTER THAN EZEH AND MOUTON! Those tw are more inconsistent than ESPN preicting Mchigans record! Martin is the only starter with 2+ years of starting experience that actually can do something. Van Bergan isnt bad either. Kovacs, a fucking walk on is doing better than ezeh and mouton. We have a RS Freshmen safety, and it shows. Dude, how about YOU learn some football.

  • @TheZooCrew So in closing, I'll back up my opinion while you throw out irrational, and ignorant insults at people.

  • @MikeLawrey32

Don't take my word for it. Troy Woolfolk on the Rich Rod era in a 2009 interview:

"Last year (2008) I felt like we were executing properly [on defense] but the schemes just weren't working. This year the schemes are better but we're just not executing as well as we should."

  • I know we're all really tired of the horrendous defense of the last 2 (and now maybe 3!!!) years. Is anyone else out there also really tired of seeing that fake "turf" stuff? One, it makes the field look ridiculously bright (like it's glowing almost). Two, part of the magic of midwest football is how rough the field gets late in the fall.

On a positive note, no one plays the Star Spangled Banner like the UofM marching band. Gives me chills every time!

  • @avocadoman3

    Two points about the turf:

    1) if you've never played on it, it's HEAVENLY compared to grass. Notre Dame's stadium absolutely blows...I marched on it over a week ago.

    2) The turf is made of recycled car tires. This is a huge bonus for the environment, as rubber tires are one of the top 5 waste problems in this country because they aren't biodegradable and can't be melted down and reforged.

  • @avocadoman3 Would you rather have natural grass again so we can see huge clumps of dirt fly up every time a football player runs over it? That was a nasty sight pre-2003.

  • @WolverineHistorian hes a idiot thats the whole point of our turf people are sick of the natural grass our field is one of the best in the country

  • @avocadoman3 I never thought the field turf looked proper, it always glowed too brightly until last year. That's when it finally looked like the proper hue and brightness of grass without the logos looking oversaturated.

So of course, it was replaced with a new fake turf this year and it looks too bright again. But at least Michigan has kept the same design since 1982. Don't you hate Ohio State's all red end zones?

  • michigan is thorgh up go michigan state michigan shouldev woped them but they suck msu would of wped them

  • @coolgriff

Seriously, what the hell are you trying to say here?

  • @McSomething15

Take it easy. I mean, according to Facebook, most Sparties just finished courses in tying shoelaces. English isn't until next semester.

  • @TheZooCrew hahahahahahah that was awesome

  • michigan is thorgh up go michigan state

  • wow. our special teams? there are no words

  • @schef2006 Our special teams are quite aptly named.

  • WolverineHistorian, can you believe the assholes on here? We come out with a WIN...an ugly one, but still a WIN...and it's still not good enough for them. It seems like Rod could win a national title and they would still be calling for his head.

  • I can't wait for Rich Rodriguez to leave Ann Arbor...

  • Kicking game is very worrying as well, of course. Need to get that sorted out as well, can't count on scoring TDs every time we're in/near the red zone.

  • If we don't fix our D NOW we're gunna struggle to get to .500 again just like last year. And that's NOT going to happen. FIX IT RICH ROD, GREG ROBINSON, AND DEFENSIVE PLAYERS!!!

  • This game showed our weakness against a heavy run game, msu might be a bitch, 3-3-5 is weak

  • @patmeg

There's nothing wrong with the scheme. WV ran a 3-3-5 against run-heavy offenses and had a top-30 defense.

  • @TheZooCrew yah cause they played in the big east, u tard lol

  • @patmeg

In the Big East he had less talent. The Big East v. Big Ten comparison from the haters is inept. Just like people saying it's easier to win in the Big East than the Big Ten. WVU has only won have won 13 conference championships, 4 of which were won, when Rich Rod was head coach. Moreover, Michigan has won 42 Big Ten championships. This is why going from WVU to Michigan is a bigger step up than going from the Big East to the Big Ten, so don't say "yah cause they played in the big east."

  • @InRichRodWeTrust u sound fucking dumb. Look i like Rich rod and what there doing but they need more size on defense, and better play calling, more press on 3rd and 4-5. The bottom line is that the "small speedy" 3-3-5 will get train fucked when they play run heavy offenses if they dont get more size and talent on the D line. How is the Big East vs. Big ten argument inept, The big Ten is better u dumbass lol

  • @patmeg

Rod was working with 2 and 3 star recruits AT BEST in the Big East and had a top-30 defense. That's why your argument is inept. They're still a BCS conference.

The only one who sound "fucking dumb" is you. Martin and Sagesse are 300 pounds, RVB and Banks are around 280. Mouton, Roh, and Ezeh average out to 245.

If you think you can be a better coach than GERG, go ahead and apply. Asshole.

  • @TheZooCrew

lol, I didn't read your message before posting mine. I said the same thing about the recruits.lol. Anyways anybody who says well, you're stupid should not even be considered a logical thinker. I mean that is what a kid does.

  • @InRichRodWeTrust

It's pretty sad, really. I mean, patmeg appears to be an old get-off-my-lawn type from the awful memes about undersized players and demands about "better play calling" (After the Lloyd Carr era, no one should be complaining about play calling) and press coverage and random shit that he thinks makes him look football smart.

  • @InRichRodWeTrust inrichrod, dude, we gave up 37 to an fcs team. If you didnt think people were gonna react to that, then just don't make a comment. My lord. We have a young defense, fair and square, we're gonna be bad on that side. And their immaturity showed by not playin to their full potential against umass. Defense has talent, just not really the experience, and it shows. Enough said.

    Go Blue!

  • @goblue918

What you just said is just helping my case. People are overreacting and calling for Robinson to be fired in the beginning of the season, which is ridiculous. Emotional fans are annoying and laughable at the same time. They make such idiotic statements.lol

“We have a young defense, fair and square, we're gonna be bad on that side. And their immaturity showed by not playin to their full potential against umass. Defense has talent, just not really the experience, and it shows.”

  • @InRichRodWeTrust

You're absolutely right. I would also like to point out that Michigan has had a winning record since GERG was hired.

  • @goblue918

"Defense has talent, just not really the experience, and it shows. Enough said."

This HAS to be a joke. Mouton and Ezeh have started for several years, Leach started a bit last year and played a lot, and those three compiled the worst numbers in this week's UFR on mgoblog.

We don't actually have the talent in the secondary...we've suffered from a ridiculous number of transfers, dropouts, and injuries. Zero depth. Learn something about football before running your mouth.

  • @TheZooCrew and leach? WTF has he done? And yes, talent is there, theyre YOUNG! You are so idiotic with this comment. Floyd has talent, gordon does, christian, avery, but theyre YOUNG! God damn, and then you go and say ezeh and mouton have starting experience? Ill tell ya mouton can show great things, at TIMES, but ezeh, still plays like a freshmen! How about 13 true freshmen getting playin time this year? Yea, we're definitly young. Even with dorsey, emilien, turner, we're young.

  • @goblue918

13 true freshman "getting playing time" is mostly special teams and specific packages.

Oh, I know we're young at key positions. But whether we have the talent or not remains to be seen. We have no depth, making it extremely difficult to extract and develop the talent.

The fact that our young guys and more importantly WALK-ONS are passing up our experienced scholarship guys means we have problems outside of GERG. I feel the departure of Jay Hopson will solve some of these issues.

  • @TheZooCrew gordon floyd kovacs roh thomas gordon thos are all sophmores and freshman startin on d

  • @TheGloveMI

Age doesn't matter so much as experience. Kovacs, Roh, and Floyd all have a year of starting experience.

Again, my criticism stems from goblue918's statement that our defense sucks and basically got lucky the first 2 games. I don't think that's true at all.

  • @TheZooCrew i didnt say age ??? i brought up there class which is their experience and their experience compared to other big ten teams or other top temas in the country is not very good and between floyd thomas gordon cam gordon and rogers how many starts did those kids have last year on d ? 2?

  • @TheGloveMI

Unless you're a transfer or Boubacar Cissoko, class refers more to age and not experience. Rogers is a senior and starting for the first time, for example.

    -

Not elite =/= not good. We don't need to be world-beaters on defense. Just good enough. And I believe they can have good performances like against UConn.

  • @TheZooCrew again not really because or team is filled with red shirts soo class wouldnt refer to age in many examples for our kids

  • @TheGloveMI

No, class refers to age within a small margin of error. You made it sound like you couldn't be considered a senior unless you had some margin of experience, which isn't even remotely true. The redshirt only modifies age by a year.

  • @TheGloveMI

I still don't understand whatever point you're trying to make.

  • @TheZooCrew the point im kaing is our defense is very young in age and exp we have 2 guys playing db who converted from wr and a walk on playing db w2 more freshman learning that bandit position so for the people who say were not young or inexperienced this was for u or them or whoever is saying it

  • @TheGloveMI

I didn't say our defense wasn't young. But we do have experience in the front seven. Again, I clarified that my criticism was that a young defense doesn't necessarily mean a shitty defense and I guess that was just ignored.

  • @goblue918

My main criticism of your post is the idea that our defense actually sucks and just had its two best games of the year...the FIRST two games. When the fuck does a defense play its best on the first game of the year when it's not against a cupcake, especially when three or four members are playing their first games ever? It's far more reasonable to say that the defense had a bad game against UMass rather than got lucky against UConn and ND.

  • @patmeg

"u sound fucking dumb" Wow that's how you start your argument. That shows how idiotic your point is, that you have to sink that low.

The Big East vs. Big ten argument is inept because RR was recruiting 2 and 3 star players @WVU,while Michigan can get 4 and 5 star players. Like I said the gap between WVU and Michigan is wider than the gap between the Big Ten and Big East. Which means anybody who says "RR did well because he was in the Big East" is wrong.

  • This game was brutal to watch...I lost it when Cam Gordon fumbled his interception...but hey, I'll take a win

  • Yeah Ball State,I was at that game,we were #2,and we almost got beat, same with The Nuts from c'bus,17-10 againist Illinois, woo it was a close one!!..

  • Michigan should stop playing FCS schools.

  • @WarMachine2013 Unless they are Delaware State-caliber teams. From what I understand this UMass team wasn't that bad of an FCS team. If Michigan plays any FCS schools play ones like Indiana State or Eastern Illinois or some clusterfuck team like that. Bottom line is, C'mon FCS? NO FBS teams should be aloud to do this. Same with FCS playing D2 and D2 playing D3

  • @themike95 I agree, I hate that teams are allowed to play teams from other divisions, there are plenty in each division that you can play.

  • @WarMachine2013 they keep scaring themselves every time . . . ., think they would have learned from that one time when they HOED the fuck out of themselves, soo pissed that day lol

  • @WarMachine2013 Or at least stop playing good ones. They crushed Delaware State, remember?

  • @BrenMcCloud

No, WarMachine makes a good point. Playing an FCS school is a lose-lose situation. Either we win and no one cares and we get shat on by the polls for playing a cupcake, or we lose and ARMAGEDDON.

  • @TheZooCrew Fair point. We seem to play better against teams like Uconn and nd anyway.

  • @TheZooCrew I agree, there are no real benefits of playing the FCS schools. What was once a sure punching bag, is no longer the case. I wish we'd just stay away from them.

  • @WarMachine2013

if their going to play a FCS school play a delaware state not an appalachian st

  • Mr. Historian, I think you should also include the special teams in the description of this video too. Cause theyre just as bad as the defense.

    Go Blue!

  • The big ten network honestly sucks worse than Michigan's defense against UMass. Just pathetic broadcast coverage. They prioritize special effects and speculation over broadcasting THE GAME. People aren't watching to hear you talk or to listen to what you "experts" think. We are here to WATCH THE GAME!!! Get a camera guy that can actually follow the ball, get a tech switcher who wont completely miss entire plays. I hate the Big Ten Netwok.

  • We'll work on it... Regain focus, tackle better, make better decisions, but the fact is, our defense isn't that great. Same thing with the special teams... Oh well, thanks for the video WH.

  • Someone needs to teach these guys how to wrap up

  • Which Michigan team had a better start?

    2004

    Miami(Ohio) 43-10(Win)

    @ ND 20-28 (loss)

    San Diego State 24-21(Win)

    ...

    2010

    Uconn 30-10 (Win)

    @ ND 28-24 (Win)

    Umass 42-37 (Win)

  • @LeGeNDaRY2846

You just copied and pasted exactly what I said.lol. I love that you also see things my way, but at least reword what I said or say something like “someone brought up an interesting point.”

  • @InRichRodWeTrust

I know lol. I know you'd mention it too because it's an excellent point and people need to realize it! And yeah i should have lol

  • Funny that fans didn't take UMass serious, yet they expect the football team to. Fact is UMass average 309 pounds on the OL, have a nice QB and RB and good possesiion recievers. Take away the Cam fumble on his INT and the dropped ball on the punt and Michigan blows this team out. Still it's 3 - 0 no matter if you win by 1 or 50... This is a very young team, and will work out the few bugs..

  • I hope the defense is put through hell this week in practice.

  • At least the offense showed up. 3-0

  • I'm glad we won but wow, the Big Ten network did a horrible job with this game. Commentators openly rooting against Michigan, missing plays, cameraman being fooled on every single read option/play action. Just awful I hope we never play another noon game on the BTN ever.

  • 5 words-

    Never take FCS teams lightly

  • Man our D needs to step up. The offense can't keep having games where D-Rob & company has to score on every drive, because the other team is right on there ass.

Michigan will not go anywhere if this d doesn't improve.

  • I think we need to keep in mind that Martin and Roh were held on literally every single play, including Martin's huge sack where he was held by TWO guys before breaking away. Getting fucked blind by the officials will make any team look bad.

  • @TheZooCrew - that's lame. Our D was "made to look bad" by non-calls. ZooCrew's analysis skills rank up there with whining ND and MSU fans. What "made us look bad" was lack of D coaching. We've got the talent. We need better coaching to support RRod's schemes -not more favorable calls by the refs. Weak.

  • @EricGoBlue

"What "made us look bad" was lack of D coaching. We've got the talent. "

Have you NOT seen our recent attrition statistics?

"By your measure, Charlie Weiss should still be at ND."

Wrong. By my measure, Weis wasn't a bad hire. It just took a few seasons to see he was hopeless as a head coach. Doesn't make him a bad offensive coordinator.

GERG's record at Michigan is 7-7. Doesn't exactly strike me as "abysmal."

  • Umass's first 2 opponents - Div IAA William & Mary and Holy Cross - - that's right Holy Cross -- had defenses that allowed FEWER points than UMich did against Umass. If we continue to implode on defense this season, this HAS to be the end of defensive coordinator Greg Robinson. His last gig - FIRED from Syracuse where he allowed astronomical scoring by opponents. Why exactly did RR hire this clown??

  • @EricGoBlue

Hey, asshat, why don't you look at what GERG has done as a defensive coordinator instead of as a head coach? He forged lights-out defenses at two NFL teams and at Texas as well.

Ever think that our defensive problems have to do with personnel, not scheme? Why the fuck else would we run a base Cover 3 when GERG has never used that as his base scheme?

  • @TheZooCrew

Plus Umass probably spent the whole off-season preparing for Michigan and this game meant everything to them.

  • @InRichRodWeTrust

You're exactly right. UMass might have sacrificed preparation for this game even more so than MSU does every year.

I'm also wondering what the hell that RB Hernandez is doing at an FCS school.

  • @InRichRodWeTrust thats no excuse. The score is a little misleading. But there shouldnt be 37 points for umass. Oh and Denard, he's the man.

    Go Blue!

  • @goblue918

People are overreacting. That is my point.Idk,what message you’re replying to, but people are more terrified in 2010 with a 3-0 record, than 2004,when they started 2-1 and lost to a 6-6 ND team and beat San Diego State by 3,which doesn’t make a lot of sense in so many ways.1st that shows you how difficult it is to win @ND,2nd that shows this team could be better than the 7-5 record people were predicting, and 3rd,it shows teams have off weeks. Look at the Ball State game in 2006.

  • @TheZooCrew - When you balance Gerg Robinson's abysmal record at Umich - with his most RECENT failure at Syracuse, we couldn't care less about what he did in the PROS - which serves as 2/3 of your argument that he's worth a damn. By your measure, Charlie Weiss should still be at ND. Leave pros out of it. b/c that's a different animal entirely. Which leaves his tenure at Texas where he was CO-coordinator for ONE year - '04. Big F'in deal. A great coordinator gets the most out of what he has.

  • im glad we won but our defense and special teams needs improvement

  • That is the most atrocious defensive effort I've ever seen.

I will watch this one time, and never again.

  • God awful. I'm embarassed to even call this a win.

  • It was a letdown game because they had two very emotional games. At least they won, and they sure as hell have stuff to work on.

  • My friend and I went to denny's after the game, and we were eating, and I said to him "Hey, you know that kicker that sucks is from Holland?"... turns out the guy is right behind me when I say it. Before I said that, the waiter told the guy that the Big House almost turned into the Big House of Horrors! Great story.

  • i dont know if i want to see the highlights of this game

  • if we would have made these mistakes over a better team, we would have lost horrendously.

  • Special teams could have been much better too...ugh, we could have another long season but I will be a Wolverine no matter what! GO BLUE!!!

  • Our defense played well against UConn and were decent against The Irish but this game was horrid. Our kicking game needs to improve as well.

  • thnx again for the upload. was at work, didnt get to see the game but was following it on my phone. i really hope they're recruting some D right about now.

  • That was one hell of a strip by Kovacs (spelling?) at the end of the half though. The defense will get better. I have a feeling.

  • 3-0 baby thats all that counts.. Go Blue

  • Well, I felt liek crap after watching this game, but the game wasn't really as close as the score would suggest. Don't fumble that pick, and the punter, and there's 2 TDs that should be off the board. Still played terribly defensively, but, it makes me feel better at least.

  • glad we won...but we shud been up by 20+ and kept it that way

  • i just felt dirty after watching this game :C

  • It was rough to watch in the stadium. I could barely keep myself in the mind set to keep screaming with the crowd. I mean it was great when we finally won, but my god, I just felt terrible after it was done.

  • I still can't figure out how we gave up 20 points late in the game like that.
