General David Petraeus on Bush/Cheney Torture Policy

So it seems that David doesn't believe in torture ... except when we really need to.

Might this be one of those cases? Can we torture David to run for president?

I know what we can do. Sit him in front of Congress indefinitely while they talk at him, grandstanding, making their simple points with elaborate pedantricity -- each getting their turn to convince him of their beliefs with unlimited time.

He'll fall asleep repeatedly, his forehead hitting the table, while people rush to get him water.

Let's play a joke on David Petraeus. Let's put his name on the presidential ballot and just not tell him. We'll just keep it top secret.

Then we can do the whole grassroots movement -- behind his back, of course. We wouldn't need $ to buy votes. David doesn't promise to fix things; he just fixes things.

Then when David wins, with about 99% of the votes, we'll let Mr. CIA Chief in on the top secret -- that he has a new job now -- U.S. President.

David will sigh and say, "As you wish, America."

I truly do not understand why the question of EPW torture need to be construed as a liberal vs. conservative issue. Perhaps it is for those who toe the party line, but to me it is simply a moral question. What is troublesome is that the reporter's synopsis at the end basically slanders GEN Petraeus by falsely claiming that he blamed Bush and Cheney for violating international law; a Commissioned Officer could land himself in trouble for so directly criticizing a President of the United States.
