It was good to see the Skyraider (Spad) at the very end.

That was my era of Naval Aviation.

I spent over 2 yrs on the roof of CVA-31.

Loved it, wish I could do it again.

absoloutely, the A-4 was nuclear capable! how do i know such things? 1969 wes- pac cruise out of Alameda Naval air station, our Marine detachment trained with nuke warheads! training was for securing weapons until they reached A-4, and after they returned from mission! Nixon should have used the dam things over North Viet Nam! i still believe today that the commies would have capitulated! and, i feel the same about the terrorists! NUKE the bastards NOW! is there a leader with balls?

@alip2310 my feeling is, that while the terrorists plot to kill any, and all, Americans, the thought of Nuking the bastards out of their spider holes, will bring the terrorists to the surrender table! OBLaden will then capitulate! in a perfect world, we(Americans) will march in Victory formation; and freedom and liberty, shall endure for another 1,000years! i am dead serious about no leaders with the balls to take such bold action! Nixon cut bait and ran! 59,000 dead! for what?

Low yield Nuke strikes on Hanoi, Haiphong and Hue would have dramatically changed S.E Asia, Vietnam and the World.

And, if done in 1965 or '66, saved 50,000+ American lives.

I can only wish it had been done.

That whole goddamned country was never worth one American life.

My dad and his brother flew the A-4 in Vietnam. I know dad flew a lot of missions and of course it kept him away from home for long periods of time during my youth. He was stationed aboard the Bonny Dick and the Hancock. He also flew the A-1 Skyraider before the A-4 and had been a flight instructor. When he wasn't on cruise, he was stationed up and down the west coast, but mostly at Moffitt Field in Lemoore, CA. Good to see this footage, it brings back a lot of memories.

What years was he aboard Bonnie Dick?

@hammerogod He was aboard the Bonnie Dick from 1959 to I think about 1962 and his squadron was VA-96

My dad flew the A-4 in Vietnam while aboard the USS Hancock. He was stationed at Moffitt Field in Lemoore, CA when he wasn't on cruise. Can't even count the amount of hours he spent in the air, but it was alot. Nice to see this footage, it brings back lots of memories.

The F-4's numbers may be down, but they're not out just yet. The USAF and Navy plan to operate the QF-4 (including the spiffy SEA camouflaged "Heritage Flight" 82nd ATRS birds) until 2013. German F-4F KWS/ICE variants are to remain in service into 2012. Japan's F-4EJ Kai still remains without a replacement. Greece, Turkey, Iran and Korea also still operate the Phantom II.

but most of our F-4's are being shot down for training which is very sad to see. I think they should just sell the aircraft instead of waste them. Like look at Russia, they still make the Mig 21 and there's an airforce pilot in Maryland that bought 1 and he flies it in and out of that base. They should sell the F-4's too. Just strip it down I guess.

yes the greeks recently updated their F-4's. they plan to keep them a while.

Greece originally received a mix of 121 F-4E and RF-4E aircraft. EADS recently updated 38 HAF F-4Es under the Peace Icarus 2000 program completed in 2004. They're expected to remain in service until 2015.
