debian is the best by a log shot. However gdm3 and debian 6.0's look ugly. It reminds me of the latest ubuntu with their alternate desktop, which is the most ugly and klunky think ever, worse than anything Microsoft ever came up with. gdm3 also defaults to UK for the keyboard, which means the keyboard doesn't work at all. In 6.0 it also blares the 1983-esque keyboard beep in terminals. How utterly tacky. 5.0 never did that, what shithead added it back in by default?
Gotta say, I for one am not at all feeling the new art work. I think it's too playful and makes you take the OS less seriously. I can see this hurting new adoption in to corporate/enterprise operations. This is coming from a long time Debian user and huge fan of OS. It's the best distro out as far as I'm concerned, just think these graphics don't do it justice.
Debian is the best distro out there. Completely free although using propietary software is allowed, mantained by volunteers, great bug tracking system, not attached to any corporation, universal, well documented, strict software regulation for quality packages, lot of software, easy to upgrade and configure so the OS doesn't get in your way, almost perfect package system, secure and robust. And that rocket is CUTE.
Very conservative/vanilla look and feel, as to be expected with Debian. I don't see any progress in the actual end-user interaction or different methods for input (think touch) with their own specialized GUI.
It seems this is almost not being touched by the Open Source community. But then again, Open Source does well on the server, not on the desktop (as OS)
@Whoahahaha Debian *is* the open source community, in a sense. It's their job to put all the great OSS out there into one package. I think it's fine if their desktop looks a bit generic by default, we can do whatever we feel like with the looks if it doesn't suit us.
I do have the same font problems (fonts too big) in kdm, kde-systemsettings in 4.4 appears to still have some problems. But the universe theme is really cute.
Can you tell me how to switch between Gnome and KDE. I've installed 6.0 Squeeze and can't get the KDE :||| help

At first: linux never was about design, but stability and functionality. I guess.. you argue for design couse' rest in Debian is perfect :D

I liked the lighter theme, it seems you're going in a darker more fedora-ish direction now.
