On the forward roll...What finger and string did you start on and are you alternating the thumb on the D and G string? It was hard for me to follow because the video was a little out of sinc.Thanks for the tips.
@Superthatdudeguy Yes, you can use your fingers, I did when I first started. However, the picks help you get that "bluegrass" sound that most are looking for.
I've been a guitarist for the last 33 years...and in that time I've gotten to where I can shred the frets off the fretboard....I've always loved bluegrass and I think now I'm ready to get a nice 5-stringer and see what i can do with it. Big change for me...shredding on the guitar is done with the left hand, now I have to get the right hand in gear.
hi matt this is Ray marshall you better know what your doing cause i have been watching some banjo players and no i am going to go buy one. and im gunna watch your vids and try to learn to play..
Anything worth doing takes hard work, but it is possible. I have a 54 yr old student that started at 50, he is doing great and banjo is his first instrument. So, yes, it is quite possible.

I took banjo lessons about 9-10 yrs ago but ened up quiting.
I had 2 jobs and 2 business's to run and couldn't devot the necessary time to playing.
Now I am retired and I just bought a Deering Good Times 2-I think your lessons are excellent!
Thanks
Joe

sorry if i sound dumb, but do you have to use finger picks for banjo, or can you use your nails instead.

@musician1611
what about just through the internet?
kylekrauskopf 2 years ago
you definitely can learn a lot these days through the internet. the only negative part is there is no immediate feedback
