  • This is absolutely hilarious. It's incomprehensible to me that nobody in whatever boardroom responsible for the name Googled it first. Now untold scores of IndyCar fans will be exposed to the idea that industrial civilization may soon end, and as a result of reckless overconsumption of oil--the very behavior automobile racing epitomizes.

  • What? You clearly know nothing about auto racing.

First I hope you don't like football, because those Boeing 737s that the team charter to fly from coast to coast burn up more fuel than any auto race in the world.

Second if you googled it you would know that the Indy cars run on 100% Ethanol, a renewable fuel and the motor oil has be synthetic in order for it to be able to work in a Indy car engine.

  • Well, the airline industry will indeed have serious trouble long before the auto industry when fuel prices spike. My point was that driving for fun will eventually be prohibitively expensive.

I did know they burned ethanol, but ethanol has huge problems with energy returned on energy invested, as well as scaling. 20% of our corn goes into making 3% of our fuel.

  • Well I hope you drive anywhere to do something recreational or turn on heater in your house. Auto racing has almost no environmental impact in comparison to what the rest of the world puts out on an average day. The earth will be fine, and I am still waiting on proof of man made global warming as I sit here with -5 degree temperature outside.

  • is peak really the best?

    I dont know....

  • its kind of ironic that the name of the oil is the definition for the imminent decline of our civilization
