  • i just saw those guys practice today for the airshow this year... pretty tight moves

  • Gnat has hydraulic flight controls-uses a Hobson unit to control input to the controls-has a manual horiz stab locking bar if you loose hydraulics-trick is you must center the trim before locking the stab or you may be out of limits for stab range-ie-not enough stab movement to land. I had an ex RAF gnat in the usa.s/n xs-110

  • I heard Follnd Gnat is very difficult plane to handle. Finnish air force had Gnats and quite many pilot died, because Gnat had serious steering problems... Am I right?

  • I have never heard of any such problems in the Gnat. I have heard that there were problems in the hydraulic systems that may have been the cause of some crashes. 1 engine and hydraulic controls can be problematic if there is not an adequate back up system. As far as basic flying qualities though I have heard that the Gnat is easy to fly. Of course all early jets had higher accident rates than other aircraft. The T-38s I flew in training had an unusually low accident rate for a jet.

  • I'll see if I can oblige...

  • Awesome vid, thanks for posting! Some great flying...Gnat's my favorite plane, would love to see some more vids of them flying!
