FYI Aquafina bottles work the best, as their caps fit most snugly on the bottle. This means the cap will not burst before the bottle does. Auquafina = Bigger explosion.

Here, I'll explain it a bit better:

Dry ice is solid Co2. When Co2 is compressed from it's gaseous state into high pressures, (around 800 psi) it turns into a liquid. When it gets very cold, it freezes into a solid; dry ice. When it's depressurized or warmed up, it expands exponentially (in the coke bottle) It uses ambient heat energy to change phases. That's why the bottle was frozen, then the air pressure caused it to explode..... I know this from years of using Co2 in paintball. :)

dry ice squeeks when you put metal on it. This one kid did the stupidest thing with dry ice one in science class. He but a small chunk in his mouth. But he was always an idiot. The teacher noticed after both upstairs and down stairs 8th grade science teackers did the same thing with dry ice and water in a bottle. We noticed all the 7th graders looking out the windows. I also already knew why it blew up. =P
