these guys remind me of symphony x, and theocracy.. though this is just power metal in my oppinion.. opera metal is stuff like nightwish, epica, etc. but its just a subgenre often falling under power metal and symphonic metal... symphonic metal has been around for quite a while, but power metal has been around for even longer... 80's metal is just a subgenre to power metal. ever think about that? listen to bands like this and tell me you dont hear some 80's style in it.

Sorry for that, but Epica isn´t opera metal. The singer is a mezzosoprane but she doesn´t sings opera. The music is more symphonic with the big choir arrangements and very dark with the grwol parts. It´s very bad that so many people are thinking in "subgenres" or build "subgenere words". Just listen to the music, enjoy it and don´t put every different band in a drawer.

Avantasia is nice :) Good idea, good work :P

Well, I don't really consider it Opera Metal, but Power Metal, you could listen to some Blind Guardian, and really just search Power Metal. Dio would almost be like this, but not quite. You know. Some of Tenacious D (though they are a comedic band, and most their stuff isn't like that) and whatever. Just look up "A Voice In The Dark" by "Blind Guardian," it is very much similar to this. And they are considered Power Metal, so you know what I'm saying.

But if they were moderately or hugely popular, couldn't they still be good? My favorite band, Iron Maiden, was at its best when it was mainstream IMO (tons of other metal bands were, too). Dream Theater's not mainstream, but they have an audience and they're successful. They're also good. Same with Symphony X, Rhapsody, etc...

A good band won't lose its quality when it becomes popular. Iron Maiden's proof of that, I think. Just my opinion, though. :)

Iraon Maiden is very much mainstream if you look at sells rating of their albums. Take for exampel Brave New World, it sold platina in sweden alone in less then 2 weeks. How ever, radio and such still dont play their songs, which is kinda f***ked up if you ask me.
