This was hands down the best game i have played. i've been playing wow, which is alright, but AC2 was just hands down the best game. shame it went under
I played this game when it was first released. ( after years of the original AC) The lugian was my first character.. Game was good while it lasted, but the gameplay in the end sucked.. Although I remember one fortress pvp battle, where arrows had been flying overhead while peoples pet dragons charged us as we defended.. Was epic as hell
Guys, i hope you know that Asheron's call isn't dead yet, its still playable, its known as Asheron's Call: Throne of Destiny. its at ac.turbine(dot)com
@MrPivotPie Asheron's call is kinda like a that green gremlin that you used to drive before you switched for a jag but it got repossessed and now you are back in the gremlin. AC2 was the jag *cries*
The game had a lot going for it abeit the many problems the game suffered as a result of its early release. The combat system was very fluent, much like Warcraft and the customization options really made for some good diversity between players of the same class.
@deelberg There have been attempts to start private servers, but none were complete versions of the game. I think they were all eventually shut down, as well.
what they need to do is give AC1 graphics like this. Seriously updated graphics with AC character creation and game play would be the bomb. They might even get people to come back again. The fact that AC1 is still up says alot for it.
To do this, they'd need to port Asheron's Call to an entirely new engine, which be more than creating a new game. It would be tedious, and they'd have to have the funding for it.
This I know, that's the same answer we the players have gotten from Turbine for the last 9 years or so. The game was so ahead if it's time, and in many ways is still worlds ahead of WoW. I tried WoW and it just felt too dumbed down. I missed being able to specialize all my stats and tweak each individual ability. Turbine did lose me a bit when they did away with spell research, but with split pea, Decal, and the like I see why they did it.
In my opinion, they should have done something about Decal early on, rather than embrace it. It's forced the development of AC to have to change over the years.
Really miss my tummie :( sigh Great vid I had no idea they'd added drudges, I gave up well before then but it was a great game except for a few things. So sad to see it gone :(
In a lot of respects, AC2 and WOW are very similar games. I don't think one is more intelligent than the other, but AC2 revolved around a world I fell in love with during AC1.
If they had just made Asheron's Call 2 with the same rules and themes as -1, I'd have switched over. Instead they made it into EQ 2 and no one wanted to play it because the people that wanted to play EQ 2 were already playing it.
Asheron's Call 2 came out in 2002. EverQuest 2 came out in 2004. They both came out in November of their respective years. Unless EverQuest 2 players can manipulate time, they weren't playing EverQuest 2 when Asheron's Call 2 came out. It was similar to EverQuest, but Asheron's Call set the foundation for EverQuest 2 and World of Warcraft.
Shows you how much I know. I guess it was EQ1 I saw my roomie playing when I was thinking about AC2, and he played so much EQ2 later it's all I remember.
Fuck you again turbine you mindless pos mother fuckers!keep ac1 worthless trash over ac2 best game ever made and yes i played from day 1 til it ended.
i loved this game like hell cant wait till the emu comes out of beta even though it may take some time.
although once when i read a review for AC2 it said that the game was very Higher level orientated with leveling them highier but never made new quests for teh lower levels so maybe when the EMU comes out they could reduce the exp amount need for leveling at lower lvls.
wish turbine would get their heads out of their a**'s move all the lore and quests from ac1 (a graphically pathetic game..even w/ that so called expansion)& reintroduce ac2 to the world as a completed 3D game that could hold its own vs WoW.
And why it won't happen because turbine doesn't have the balls nor the brains to see what they truly had THE BEST !@#$ GAME EVER!... rather be in AC2 than in WoW
The reason AC 1 dosn't have better graphics is because it was made using a different game engine and it's hard to change that and keep the stuff people like in AC.
Quote "The poor sales of Legions was simply the last nail in the coffin. " BS! @#$ there was no advertising !!!!
WoW advertised all over on everything ...Turbine put out a single page ad...BC expansion , every store had promo stuff to display ....AC2 legions had ZERO promo displays
No advertising = no sales = they pulled the plug b4 it ever got a chance!!!
I am sorry but I can't agree much with that comment, let me tell you how bad Turbine advertisment was. I played it and a month later I found out the expansion was out, when I went to get it at Bestbuy, they told it was recalled lol. Now, tell me if that's not right, I didn't even had a clue the expansion came out, as for AC1, lucky is still around, very lucky...
Turbine advertisement had no effect on the original population. Microsoft advertised the game until Turbine bought the franchise from Microsoft. The poor sales of Legions was simply the last nail in the coffin.
Will all this information you have, I wonder if you work or worked for Turbine since you are telling me possible facts, but you're also very defensive about Turbine.
This game looks awesome for it's time. I can't wait for it to be an open source game. It'll happen eventually. Even if it takes ten years or so. I never played it, but my buddy played ac1 a lot.
AC2 was dead long before WoW came out. I was playing beta 2 in WoW, when Blizz was shutting servers down. It went from 15 server, to 3. I remember the pvp relms used to have THREE players at most during peak. yes THREE (3) you could see it on the load screens.
That's because you never had a chance to play it lol. AC2 was ground breaking in many ways and it was way advance in game engine, play style, lore and character classes. The reason this game failed was because Microsoft didn't do much to promote it and then Turbine finished killing it. The best Online game I have ever played and most that played it will agree. WOW and many other games were influenced by it.
The failure of AC2 was not because of a failure in advertisement. The problem was that a lot people were interested, and a lot of people played the beta. Which, was almost unplayable due to lag and was riddled with bugs. A lot of the same problems in beta persisted to launch. It was a big turn off for people. And to a lot of the people who had played the original AC, this was an alien game.
CAn someoon explain why this died, and the 1st one did not?n the 1st one has sooo bad graphics, clunky gameplay
