I visited NYC last year and checked out this store...it was pure crap. There were records stacked on top of records, and crates on top of crates...a lot of records that you could even get to...records that probably hadn't seem the light if day in years. I dug for maybe 20 minutes but it was 99% garbage. Picked over I guess.
a spot like that most likely has a "guy" who gets first dibs on incoming loads. I always ask thrift shops if anyone searches before they go to shelf, and surprisingly about half say yes.
just imagine... spending a day cleaning out the record aisle thays all filled up where no one has been for years :_O theres prob a ton of good ones in there :D
Damn!!! I need to go there. I've been all over Cali diggin' and it gets boring after awhile diggin' here. I gotta really travel far. Japan seems to be a good spot for diggers, but damn the price to get there and then some. Thanks for posting this vid up.
Imagine a rat the size of a small dog running across the top shelf at eye-level while you were diggin? I screamed like a banchi...me and this dude ran upstairs....5 minutes later we were digging again. That was in 2002, and it's been cleaned up a lot since. Buried tresure awaits right now...I'm leaving to NYC in two weeks!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.......
i need to know where this place is! its fucking heaven! next year im goin over to america to just shop for vinyl. im gonna be fucked tryna get it all back though!
i found some stuff at this place but in nyc i am from there bleeker bob has a lot of rare stuff i go there and i also buy from dusty vinyl in chicago.
...i finally been there last thursday.... just had 20$ in my pocket and bring home 11 great old school hip hop / early house / 80's electro funk records. Historic spot, long live to this place ! owners are really cool guys. Brooklyn rocks !
I've been there- its a crate digger's nightmare spot. NOTHING is in that basement other than shitty rap and soul records no one wants. Fuckload of quantity and zero quality. Who cares.
he grabbed that brass construction like he found something special. that record can be found almost anywhere. if he paid more than $1 for, he got overcharged
1. Not all diggers are the same. One might dig for jazz and another for chicago house. Everything else in between as well as beyond genre-wise has been through that basement.
2. The 'picked over' argument is weak. They bring more records in frequently. Often you'll find records stored outside of the vinyl section because there's not much room in the basement & street level.
Bottom line, I don't blame you for trying to keep other diggers away. It's all part of the game.
@rokkofb I don't have any decent record stores near me and so I do most of my vinyl purchasing online. I look for specific electronic music like drum and bass, gabber, dub, goa/psytrance, and chill music in general. I wonder if there is any of that down there in that basement even though it looks like it would just mostly a bunch of older stuff. With that much stuff in one place I think there would have to be something for everyone in there but you would be digging forever.
Yeah the thing is okeh but a lot of the shit is beat up and you really need to dig deep. It's hit regular by British guys that live in NYC so if ya lookin' for northern.....forget it!
Damn... wish we had a place like that in my country.
