The Mexica (aztecs) didnt die out. They evolved, by force, into the modern Mexican. Most Mexicans are are descendants of the Mexica.

@carsiotto mexicans are a crossbreed between spaniards and mesoamerican natives. there are true descendants like the Huichol tribe. mexicans and aztecs are verry diffrent people, dont compare us to them.

just cause meztisos r in power doesn't make them define it & mexicas/aztecs r the same. aztec is a made up archeological term but mexica, plural form mexican was always used. maya-mayan etc every tribe in the territory would be added under the umbrella term mexica. with privlages given to certain groups, toltec decent etc

fyi, the word "mexica" is a word that the spaniards used. it means "people from mexico". when the spanish came in 1521, we never refered ourselves as "mexican" or "mexica". its a term that the spanish used to call the peple living in mesoamerica. aztec on the other hand is what we called ourselves, meaning "people from Aztlan"

yeah, but now days no one is 100% Aztec decedent especially for the modern Mexican its mainly a mix of Spaniard and Aztec don't get me wrong, them one hundred percent pure Aztecs are still out there in Mexico but unfortunately there looked down on over there

Thank you for the great documentary! In my opinion GREED has always played a part in the downfall of great civilizations. I love history and I believe our leaders can ALL learn from the mistakes that have been made and learn from them. Thanks for posting one could only think what could have been in The Spanish Inquisition had never happend. They might have been a great nation even today! I hope one day the remaining Aztecs decide on building a great city once again for them to stay in and worship their gods as they once did.

They worshipped their gods by cutting peoples hearts out and and wearing their skin, so I dont think letting them carry out their ancestors sacrificial rituals again would be the best idea.

@TheLoyalOfficer They would propably have advanced beyond that and moved on to animal sacrifice instead. We will never know. The Aztec never allied with the Spaniards it were the Tlaxcala that alied with them.

I'm just saying to our standards its brutal but to their standards it was acceptable. Not that people feared them.. and that a lot of people did suffer, but that's just their way of living.
