  • Music was awesome, game blew ass. $50 I'll never get back.

  • damn this music is so awsome! i actually think this sounds like early Genesis/mega drive music in some parts that's what makes this music very epic.

  • Check out Descendants of Erdrick's cover: youtube.com/watch?v=Bl0lGFH7NBw

  • Why do I get the creeping suspicion that the title should be Journey to Sirius?

  • Wow, my first NES game, I remember this game for its awesome music mainly, 20 years on and it still measures up to the test of time superbly. Astonishing what they managed to get out of the ol' 8-bit

  • 3:36 = Julius Belmont theme.

  • 2:37 and on would be absolutely insane in stereo!

  • someone is a beast!

  • to be honest... my generation were spoiled when it comes to music in games..

todays kids dont get good music like this in games :(

when i hear this, i actually get a tear in my eye when i hear this ... reminds me of a time that never will come back, and also that i have grown up with this ^^ NES forever... forever gamer <3

  • Space Colonization.... floppy disk... wait, WHAT!?

  • I would really love to see Journey To Silius Remake game. Probably the best NES soundtrack. Sunsoft had the best 8 bit musics.

  • Fcuking awesome soundtrack :D :D

  • Who else thinks the main character run and move a bit like Arthur from Ghost N Goblins?

  • In 6:01 - it's brilliant! My favourite theme from Sunsoft.

  • No boss level music?!?

  • Comment removed

  • Sunsoft games did have great music yes, though Komani and Capcom were up there too.

  • Journey to Silius... some of the all time best music in video games!

  • wonderful game and the best game sound track of th whole time!!!

  • i just used to love this game *_*

  • This is one of my *all time* favorite NES games. God I loved this. Once you got the controls and general rhythm down, this game was fantastic. Such incredible music...such incredible memories...

  • the 3 rd song is the best i like this game !!!

  • the 3 rd song is the best in this game :) i like this game and mario 3

  • wait, scpace colony shit and suddenly i see a floppy disk. lol.

  • Terminator for the win

  • Kickass, i miss this kind of games like this contra and turrican.

  • Why does the guy in the video have armor? In my copy he has blond hair, no helmet, and no armor like that anyways.

  • @sonicguy25 Mine is the european version and looks like this. Yours might be the US one?

  • @latuman Yeah. It's that. Thanks for the reply. I was thinking that. Kinda like Contra was changed to robots.

  • A truly amazing soundtrack! I just love Nintendo World Cup's a LITTLE bit more. =D

  • Man, Sunsoft fuckin OWNED the NES audio hardware back in the day.

  • @vjnctn They STILL do :P

  • @vjnctn So true..but LJN was better..LOL..just playin..haha..sunsoft kicked ass..oh man the memories..being a kid..there are to many games to mention!

  • even while Genesis was out, certain composers were still doing amazing things with the NES's sound chip, and bringing in some tricks C64's sound chip popularized. but the Gen basically has the NES's sound chip onboard alongside the metallic Yamaha chip. the best-sounding games combined both chips for music. like in Gunstar Heroes, a lot of the soundtrack's instruments use the NES-type chip for really wild things, added to the newer Yamaha tones.

  • at 1:01 - Terminator reference.

    -kidThunder

  • Actually, this game was originally going to be based off the First Terminator Movie, but Sunsoft Lost their license.

  • Exactly. The license was given to Bethesda Softworks who were actually behind every game based on the first Terminator movie. It was a shame that Sunsoft their license and if they haven't this was going to be popular video game, along with the first Batman game on NES. Not to mention, the Sunsoft games on the NES were generally hit or miss.

    -kidThunder

  • And the same thing happened with Sunsoft and the license for Superman, and as a result we have a not-released-but-fully-done prototype of Sunman and a horrible Superman game for the NES done by Kemco.

  • the game was supposed to be a terminator game, but sunsoft lost the license

  • It's up there with Mega Man 2

  • Sunsoft had a talent for making the old NES sound good. The hilarious thing is that even with the NES's audio capabilities falling fall short of the Genesis, this game made a lot of the 16 bit stuff at the time sound pathetic. I just wish that other companies thought about the sound in their games like Sunsoft did. With games like Silius, Batman, Batman return of the Joker etc, that company showed that the old 8-bit console could rock hard if it was allowed to.

  • @JoelJW a LOT of 8bit games give the genesis sound chip a run for it's money. it could synthesize better but everything on the Genesis had that really gross "metallic"y sound.

  • @JoelJW

Thunder force 4, Alien Solider. Now shut your mouth.

  • NES had the best music

  • Man i remember this game, My brother and i have been into video games since we were about 3 and 4 yrs old, and i remember when we were moving we had about 78 cartridges in a box and 2 systems, and we left it out for a few minutes, and someone stole it. :(

  • I never got through the underground base on this game....

I might try again at some point. I still have the original!

  • I actually find this game easier now than I did when I was a kid. Just replayed it last year and completed it on my first try, without the extra continues code.

The badass soundtrack alone was motivation enough to run through it again.

  • Count me as one of the unlucky people who never had a chance to play this game. Looks awesome.

I can see the similarities with the Terminator series. It's crazy to think that the NES Terminator games might have actually been awesome instead of the crap games that they are.

  • this is the 8-bits GLORY!

  • why is the character in this game different from the original one man?

  • European copies had same character sprite as the japanese.

  • this was supposed to be the original terminator game but the rights were revoked at the last minute because the game was too good. They had to drastically alter the plot to sell it but the similarities to the movie are still there if you know to look.

  • Get to da choppah!

  • This is only for long time video gamers, only old school.

  • DrDraco man are you missing out its a hard game but yet so rewarding

  • Wow, I never even heard of this game or music before, and I seriously want to play it now!

  • Do it. It could be one of THE MOST under rated games on the NES. It was originally supposed to be a Terminator game. You can tell. Just listen to the break in the song at 1:02.

  • How the fuck did they manage such great quality sound?!

  • I could listen to this video ALL DAY.

  • I DO listen to it all day at work...It gets me through the day :)

  • Sunsoft really killed with the NES music.

  • Oh my God - is this mega sound from the good old nes?? wtf?

  • This game had an excellent soundtrack! I wish that people could make some Metal remixes of these songs. They'd be great!

  • @BiroZombie youtube.com/watch?v=eRwwvVbnYrA

  • @kycklingsallad Very awesome! I love it! :)

  • @BiroZombie Cool :)

  • This has one of the best game music tracks I've ever heard. I hate that my NES and this game is gone! What a classic. Wish they could make it a CD (even today it would be good!!).

  • When I got this game for Christmas, I thought I was stuck in time. LOL I didn't get up but only to go to the bathroom sometimes. The music was spooky as hell! Great music though. I beat the game too by the way. One of my favorite all time games along with Kung Fu.

  • very impressive soundtrack, almost mega drive quality.

  • oh and the next part of the track is even better but he faded it out into another track :P

  • man sunsoft always had the best music, not always the best games persay but they really knew how to get a tune stuck in your head despite 8-bit limitations :)

  • indeed it is sir, indeed it is... i might have to remix that track in particular, that would be awesome :)

  • 4:42-6:something.... is AWESOME!

  • Naoki Kodaka was a true genius when it came to getting the best sound from such limited hardware...

look at games like this, batman, gremlins 2, and blaster master, all games which he composed the soundtracks for :P

  • Haha, I still have this game :D My NES is broken though, so I can't play anything.

  • O__O

really great music, getting more feeling from this soundtrack than most of modern soundtracks----

  • Best videogame music ever.

  • hmm, why does the main character look completely different in this vid compared to my version. where there different characters in the japanese, european and us version?

  • that one is from JP and EU versions.

  • it is said that this game pushed the NES soundchip beyond its limits.

The music still give me chills today.

  • Wow! Lol suck on that sega mastershit!

    Best nes music ever!

  • this game was suppose to be a movie based game...the movie was terminator. they got stripped of their license and had to make a shit story for it. they did this because they wanted to capitalize on the new terminator movie coming out and didnt want people spending time on past projects. so if you listen to the part snus666 gets chills from its got the same terminator sound.

  • The story isn't completely shit. After you really think about it, it's actually pretty interesting. A space colony story of vengeance?

    Seriously.

  • Best videogame music ever.

  • Oh btw i just rememberd, Press B 33 times and then Start at the title screen.

A sound test option will be available. A good thing if you just want to listen to the tracks, and that cheat also gives you nine continues when you later start the game :)

  • 1:02 oh that part gives me the chills i dont know why but i love the part in the intro tune,

  • Man, the music in this game kicks major ass.

Thanks to the HVGN for making this game known on teh interweb!!

  • Wow! i swore this was a SNES game until I checked the info. How'd they manage suck a kickin' soundtrack on the 8-bit NES????

  • Yeah wonder that myself, this game have an Epic sountrack :)

  • I read that they some how had to manipulate the NES limits to create the music. I think you can find that info on wikipedia.

  • Sunsoft their own very distinct feel to their music. Batman, U*four*ia, Fester's Quest and this. There is something very similar. It's like Lou Reed, who says he can pick out Sterling Morrisons guitar among a thousand samples. Capcom also has their feel, but I think Sunsoft's is more obvious. Somewhat dystopian, with that trademark high pitched vibrato, and then there IS something with that bass and drums!

  • Best NES game ever! Best game soundtrack ever! I actually tried to contact the composer once just to tell him how impressed I was with the Silius music, but the closest I could get was some co-worker or something. I hope the guy got my message though. Hehe.

  • *shiver

  • A FLOPPY DISK!! O_O lol

    =P really really cool music

  • lol I like the theme at 6:03

  • 1:15... pure win

  • 4:42 is one of my favorite NES tracks.

  • someone who can answear me on why the first stage music is different on my version of silius ?

is it because mine is european ?

it is just the first stAGE THo:D

  • its just the title theme instead of level 1 in this vid but it sounds quite the same...

  • except the one u hear on the first stage ownz the intro song in miles

  • Jesus! That doesn't even sound like a NES at all! How the heck did they DO that?!?! Badass soundtrack!

  • intro music is awesome!

  • I have never heard of this game, but i gotta say i am super impressed by the soundtrack. This is especially impressive since this game is over 20 years old and it still sounds great. I am going to seriously look into finding this gem for my collection. I hope it plays well too!

  • It does and I spent so much time playing the shit out of it. If a game had good music and sound effects, I could almost overlook anything else that might be wrong.

  • I remember spending hours and hours playing this game... Thanks for that flashback

  • i want the Soundtrack i want it WANT IT NOW

    u Buy it for me

  • man thats CRazY good for the NES!

  • I love this game! Thanks to Happy Videogame Nerd who told me this was a great game.

I also see you are playing the PAL version of the game: The game character has his helmet on. This music is the best ever! Love the music from the second level (2:37 in the movie).

Thanks for the upload! This is pure awesomness!

  • I dont know how they got that bass sound, but thats signature Sunsoft, almost all of their games had something like this for audio. blaster master anyone?

    Love that sunsoft...

  • Amen brother. Batman, Platoon, Gremlins... Sunsoft was king when it came to NES soundtracks.

  • Yup, Batman too, awesome

  • From what I've heard, the bass is actually a PCM recording of a real electric bass.

  • @xenocore01 That bass sound was Sunsoft's clever way of using the NES's DPCM channel. Most games use that channel for drum beats and voices, Sunsoft decided to record a bass sound and plug that into their music instead, combine that with the fact that they were ALREADY capable of making awesome tunes with the NES's sound channels even BEFORE they used the bass(see the original Batman NES game for reference), and you've got yourself some some amazing music.

  • @xenocore01 Wasn't Spy Hunter a Sunsoft game? Kick ass soundtrack on that one too!

  • @xenocore01 That bass sound is one hell of a clever trick. It is actually a sample on DPCM channel.

  • This music is pretty amazing for a NES, actually... how did he get such a deep rumbling bass, and such diversity in sound?

  • beatiful music, better than most overhyped oh so great commodore 64 tunes

  • I dunno man, that's a pretty hard claim to make. There's some amazing composers from both platforms. I've got a few C64 tunes on my own channel and really I didn't discover the C64 until recently (in the last five years) so I'm not going from a nostalgic perspective.

  • well yes, but the c64 tunes all seems to have the same sound, the same arpeggios etc.
