If I said it before, i'll say it again. Everyone should stop comparing Rush to "the Canadian Led Zeppelin". Rush clearly has a more flexible guitar/bass/drumming style, and tbh Geddy Lee and Robert Plant's voices sound nothing alike. I mean, He's got a great voice, and all, but he wishes Geddy Lee offered singing lessons.
1:55 Geddy does this quick expression like he's trying to remember the lyrics, perhaps. No disrespect intended. I'll have always have loads of respect for Rush.
It must have been tough opening for KiSS, you lay down some hard riffs and then get smoked by 4 dudes getting more action than a mafia don blowing fire out of their asses
Not to mention that the music follows a very linear progression while being very complex. It's hard to write something that's very progressive but easy to listen to.
Why are there no newer versions of this song on YouTube? It is the most Rush-like of all Rush songs to me. Maybe Jimmy Page's autistic-savant brother wrote it or something. (joke) Page agreed with Lifeson to keep silent about the matter.
Awesome song!, never gets old to me. I've listened to this song countless times, listening hard, trying learn it. It is dubbed. But I was thinking that since it's a commercial/promotional vid, maybe there is a law that states the recording has to be played in the commercial since that is what being advertised to sell.
They were greatest before electronic, seriously, they did have good electronic, but seriously JESUS CHRIST this is fucking amazing....computers got them in trouble in the 90s and they were pretty terrible.
not sure why all the comments saying "hey there are no mics" and "gee that sounds like the studio recording". YES it's the audio from the studio album. NO it's not recorded live. YES its awesome to see a video of rush from 1975. dam, calm down people
i hear that he used the Fender Bass in the studio, and the Ric live. I have played his edition of the strat bass and the Ric. The strat bass is SOOO much better to play to be honest. Then again, my bass playing is like Geddy Lee and Steve Harris stuff.
@Xeivous You mean a Jazz bass, right? I don't think I've ever heard of a bass version of the Strat...I agree, though, if I had a choice of just one bass to keep I'd have to pick the Jazz over the Ric, but I love that Ric sound.
What a fucking band! There is no better ensemble of talented, expressive, and durable rock musicians in the world. So great to see these old vids of them.
comecei a me concentrar em solos ouvindo esse som do Rush , e ja se passaram 35 anos e ele continua me impressionando,Rapido, pesado e Melodicamente perfeito..
@Schuldiner11 this is too exact... you can tell it is the studio version. listen to the solo, there is a section where there is clearly two guitar tracks simultaneously; in a way one cant simulate with a chorus pedal even.
Fly By Night is easily THE most under-rated album of all time spanning any genre of music at any period in time. Seriously, what could be more under-rated than this?
the first time I listened to this song (was a month ago!) I thought it was very close to thrash metal: I was surprised that RUSH had composed such a heavy song. I knew them from a while back by a best of compilation (80s). Never thought they were this heavy! That singerland kit sure sounds great, with the precise technique of Neil Pert... aduo that cannot go wrong!
@zobazoba69 Whether people want to admit it or not, Rush is Conceptual Metal. They're not Progressive Rock. Think of them as the H.P. Lovecraft of metal.
@TheCoryandDavidShow...Did you miss my first point that there are no mics on the kit? And since when are effects triggered off-stage during the early 70s?
