He was in an Underwater Demolition Team which saw very little combat action and only had one fatality during Vietnam compared to the Seals who lost 34. The UDT's were merged with the Seals in 1983 but during Vietnam they were 2 completely different teams. Ventura likes calling himself a Seal because of their reputation for valor and he gets away with it because most people don't know any different.

He was in an Underwater Demolition Team which saw very little combat action and only had one fatality during Vietnam compared to the Seals who lost 34. The UDT's were merged with the Seals in 1983 but during Vietnam they were 2 completely different teams. Ventura likes calling himself a Seal because of their reputation for valor and he gets away with it because most people don't know any different.

Chris Kyle is at the other end of the spectrum, comes from the back blocks of Texas and made good as a sniper in the Seals. How would Kyle know Ventura was about to make an impromptu trip to Mexico? More likely Ventura saw the Fox interview or was told about it, then reacted by going AWOL from America so he couldn't be contacted. This gave him time to figure out how he was going to respond. He has a history of lying about his past.

Chris Kyle says he never saw him with a drink in his hand. You can go in a bar without having a drink if you just want to hang out with certain people, in this case the Seals. He does protect Jesse's right to free speech. After Jesse refused to tone it down in front of a dead SEAL's family - he punched him. Kind of sounds like Jesse deserved it. Anyway, how did this guy take that right away? He just punched him for being an asshole. No biggie.

@klrdotorg He doesn't have to tone it down, that's what free speech is all about. He allegedly punched him for speaking, that is infringing on his right to free speech and right to safety. If this did indeed happen, which most likely did not. The right way to handle the situation was by simply ignoring it, walking away, or asking the owner of the property to have Jesse Ventura removed.

Well that may have been the more mature thing to do. But if Jesse said those things, I'm glad he punched him. If he hadn't, another SEAL probably would have. Free speech, or not, you just don't talk like that in ear-shot of grieving friends and family of a dead SEAL. If you do, you're going to get punched. If you can't handle that fact, don't know what to tell you.

@klrdotorg It's sad that a soldier, who is supposed to fight for freedom, would do that, it goes against EVERYTHING they stand for. Freedom of speech is there to protect unpopular speech. If I saw you hit someone for speaking I'd place you under citizen's arrest for assault. Have you never heard the great Thomas Jefferson when he said, "I disagree with what you said, but will defend to death your right to say it!"

Nice speech. Our soldiers are supposed to fight and kill our enemies in the field of battle. That's what this soldier did ... and very well. Our leaders are supposed to protect our freedom. This soldier has done nothing to take our freedom away.
