seen in the vid. For e.g. the sifu in the vid, side steps, using Bong/Wu vs str punch, then follows up, 2 movements vs 1 attack. If he just side stepped and hit, sametime, this is 1 movement vs 1 attack, more efficient, more effective, less "thinking" involved. IMO, the vid looks like advanced basic karate, with blocking and hit as seperate movements, in a unrealistic demo. Unfortunately I see this allot, so thought I would make a comment, nothing personal about it, each to their own thought
Just so you know I practiced and taught TWC for over a decade...Now what this comes down to is a difference in understanding and concept. IMO WC is not a "contact reflex" based MA, but it uses that as one of it's attributes. WC IMO is a boxing system, just like western boxing, but with really only 1 punch and different structure/mechanics, we fight closer in, therefore requiring different attributes. TWC IMO is a longer range WC system, but it does IMO teach too much chasing hands, as is.....
chasing hands...wouldn't work if the other guy didn't leaving his hands out there. The first opportunity you have to hit you hit, rather than using two hands to defend one hand (especially since your already facing him square on)....this vid is technique thinking, if he does this I do that, problem is we can't react fast enough to ever perform the proper technique at the proper time, in the proper range, no economy of motion wth this type of thinkin.
wing chun is contact reflex based martial art so there in no time for thinking. He will never know what he will use next. This is only one situation. And yes the hand will never stand there forever but that is difrent situation.
