There is a funny story about this show. Apparently the Mighty Blue Cheer were so cocky that they told people that they were gonna, "Blow Hendrix off the stage!" Jimi just shrugged it off, then Blue Cheer proceeded to suck badly, which was the norm for them. Just loud ear pollution with no musicality...
In my opinion and for my own tastes, Jimi and Frank were the two greatest geniuses in rock history. How cool would it have been to see this show!
BTW...Did you notice the big camera during the Hendrix clip? I read not too long ago that Jimi was filmed at this show and it would eventually get released, according to Experience Hendrix. The same folks who in April 2010 announced upcoming "Theatrical release" of Jimi's Royal Albert Hall shows from '69 by the "end of the year." Mmm hmm...
Good footage no audio .By the way did the festival was held off US 1 around were the club World was ? Happy New Year aseipos you can also check with channel 7 or four I think they filmed the festival .
May 1968---Probably the first time some people down there ever saw men with hair that long! By the way, some audio would have been nice, especially for Blue Cheer!
Sound or no sound (Actually I like the authentic sound of the 8mm camera!) This is rare, historical footage, especially for those who were there (I was not, but attended Jimi's '68 and '70 shows in So. Florida). Someone may have already suggested some technical advice, so I won't go there. Thanks for posting! F.Y.I. Rolling Stone Magazine called Jimi Hendrix- "The # 1 guitarist (Or "# 1 Rock Guitarist") of all time"-no argument there!
These types of recordings are worth so much more than all the official stuff. Let those capitalists take down all the postings in case it stops them getting their lucre, they can't touch stuff like this as it captures the time from a mundane perspective rather than a professional polished angle.
this is way cool. i say blue cheer a few yers ago. all but the original guitarest. it was this duck guy. but i had them all sign the first LP. then sadly like a year late dickie died. i wish i was there!

I was there both days and never will forget Jimi starting to play "Star-Spangled Banner" & out of a clear sky, there was major lightning and thunder & rain that poured down, canceling the rest of the Festival!
Today is 40th Anniversary of his death.. r.i.p.
PS. Frank Zappa was also incredible, and Charles Lloyd Quartet blew us away.. Every time I hear "Forest Flower" I remember first hearing it at Miami Pop Festival...
That Start you can see Hendrix play was burned by him at the end of his set. It was then given to Frank Zappa by one of Jim's roadies, and Frank later rebuilt it and used it from time to time when he played. It now belongs to his son, Dweezil, who shows it in this video:
this is so cool, i still haven't found video with audio of blue cheer with the original lineup, would you know where there would be a video of them from 68 with sound?
@Exiles800 That's what I thought but Experience Hendrix are releasing it on DVD so they must have got the film back somehow, let's hope so anyway. They also filmed him around the festival site including the super cool entrance climbing down the ladder from the chopper that brought him in,I'd rather see this than the Royal Albert Hall film they have been talking about for what seems like forever !
Great to see precious little nuggets of a prize Hendrix performance. Jimi wrote 'Rainy Day Dream Away' During a rain-out south Florida thunderstorm rainy day when he played this show.
Not to nag but - to video-ers, alway film as if you are the viewer not wanting your head jerked back and forth.
That is cool!!! I like seeing him with the white roseboard neck strat. IMO They looked the best and sounded sweeter. I know the tone IMO jumps off the maple board necks faster and seems to have some more sonic dynamic while bending, IMO but his rose board strats have a nice tone as was used on the first 3 albums ( on most songs )
I just found the only video on the internet with jimi hendrix live at miami pop festival. Just type in the search bar "jimi hendrix death announcement" and click on the first one there is about 20 secondsof him playing his guitar with sound!
Thanks so much for sharing this...incredible. Experience Hendrix recovered the video to this entire show a couple of years ago...miraculously. Who knows how long they'll wait to release it. They should have announced it when they recieved it.
I live so close to wher they played at. I live less then a mile away. The didn't really play in miami. Then played just outside of it in hallandale beach.
Mitch, who else? Miami were contracted JHE events - WAY BEFORE they split - Denver Pop (6/29/69)... Mitch made interesting comments about THIS Show: 'some dude came by w/lLudes & LSD' & and the next thing - 'Jimi & I are above the stage & I see ourselves below just jammin' away!' Don't make the mistake of thinking otherwise:
MIAMI POP '68 was a MONUMENTAL TICKET: w/Jimi, Zappa & Blue Cheer ALL there! And the local city government was seeding the clouds to rain that week-end OUT!!!
5/18/68: Miami Pop Festival, Miami, Floridas Gulf Stream Park Race Track) (2nd show rained out): Foxy Lady, Fire, Hear My Train A Comin', Purple Haze (rest of Show rained out...)
5/19/68: Miami Pop Festival, Miami, Floridas Gulf Stream Park Race Track: Rained Out!
5/20/68: The Wreck Bar, CastAways Hotel, Miami. Jimi jams on a Guild guitar with Noel Redding, Frank Zappa, Arthur Brown and Jimmy Carl Black
1:06 someone is filming this concert using a proffesional movie camera (news media?). That might be the ABC footage that the Hendrix Estate purchased a few years ago
Holy crap - thanx for posting this! I was there, sitting on the extreme right side of the stage! I looked, but didn't catch a glimpse of myself in the film. too bad, 'cos I was one of the few freak chicks in a wheelchair back then and would've screamed if I'd had! what a great show it was - Zappa, Jimi and Blue Cheer all in the prime!
NOPE! Jimi didn't burn a Strat @ these 2 Miami Shows, just on 3/31/67 @ the Finsbury Park Astoria in London (opening of the Walker Brother Tour w/Engelbert Humperdinck and Cat Stevens), and of course on 6/18/67 @ Monterey...
This concert was professionally filmed by a company called abc, they also filmed the experience at the filmore east in1968, but when Hendrix departed the footage was stolen from the archives. Blue cheer and The experience on the same bill that is heavy for 68' Cool.
Hey, that's great. How do we determine that you have what you say you have? Unfortunately, the last several folks who claimed to have a recording of the afternoon set only had the evening set.
Pretty sure he did two shows that first day, don't have the docs in front of me.
There is audio for the JHE performances that runs beyond 20 mins. And in part of it the announcer is saying something to the crowd about lights & the parking lot as Jimi is winding up his 2nd show, iirr.
My Bad! To clarify: That's the FIRST SHOW Set List I posted (above), 2nd set apparently was NOT recorded. Only 20 minutes of the 1st Show was recorded and the set was probably longer w/Jimi's tuning and entertaining the crowd, etc. Foxy Lady was 5:40; Purple Haze was 5:00. The next day was a RAIN-OUT. It was the last gig of Jimi's '68 US Spring Tour and they flew off to Italy on 5/22/68. The event was produced by Michael Lang who went on to produce Woodstock 15 months later...
Amazing that this stuff still surfaces. Nice that you kept the original and not some so-so VHS dub from the 80's done at a photo lab.
The Hendrix estate would be interested or at least Hendrix collectors. The Zappa part doubles the value since his collectors are equally rabid.
Master would go for a couple grand at auction if it included copyright. Don't let anyone fleece you. Hendrix estate used some VERY short colour 8mm clips in the bonus/interview section of the Woodstock DVD.
Tried to Sync-- i cant do it-- maybe someone else has the time. Problem is the segments are too short and fragmented (basically its not worth it. Experience Hendrix might want this footage since they own the ABC footage of Jimis set. Maybe they can use a few seconds as alternative camera angles.
@aseipos I'll do it, but this is first show film right? A community place here on the net called Crosstown Torrents is a fan site where we upload and share audio and video, We as that community only have the second show audio that was broken up. In 2011, Experience Hendrix are bringing out synced film of the first and second shows I think.
Wondered about that myself so checked the pics on rockprophecy and best I can tell, I'm the darkhaired guy in the light blue shirt to the right of the black&white checked shirt guy in the center, or one of the multitude sitting behind him. Wish somebody got pics of the copter landing as I was there too walking back toward the stage with the JH, MM & NR after landing, but all stills disappeared into my school's journalism department, never to be seen again. Hmmmm... wonder if we can't find them.
Hey now, I have seen pix of this copter landing shot on 120 film, featuring jimi, noel, a pretty dumpy looking linda eastman, (and quite possibly you too,) original prints are available //// you need to look a little harder ..........trying to remember how i saw those...............
Jimi in a White ruffled silk shirt w/the sundial medallion, w/a White Strat w/Rosewood neck, Red suede bell-bottoms, Blond streaks in his hair - COOL AS ALL FUCKING HELL - one of my favorite concert outfits! He even rented a helicopter to get to the show - Jimi was ON TOP OF THE WORLD & earning millions by this time!
Both Jimi and Noel had a great hair day; Noel´s afro is absolutely incredible, and Jimi´s blond streaks look stunning. You´re right, BeenBad4U, this is so coooool!
