  • I'v had 1 of these an 83 model for 25 yrs Its got a 4 into 1 & the bottom section of the fairing, its black with orange pin stripes to match the wheels still go's well but the black box is playing up a little in hot weather it do'snt go well.its been a great bike my wife & I have been everywhere on it, it sits in the garage & I use my Suzy Crotch Rocket these days....

  • I put pipes on mine and as soon as the revs droped to tick over it would cut out even went back to kawasaki no change they could not sort it so fuel inj was shit then but when i put standard pipes back on it was pukka goood bike give me carbs love em can always tweek ride safe guys :)

  • I used to clean the engine on these cold, then go for a quick ride to dry it off and while it was still hot (parked) spray the whole engine with armor-all. It burns on and leaves looking jet-black and way cool. Took an 1100 on trade from a guy who had put 20k+ and was buying a Ninja 1000. 20k is like boneyard up here in the NE. I sold that thing in 1 week

  • @Jkbox1 ..I see you used the armor all trick also. Bought my GPZ-750 from Arlinton Motorsports in MA. Long time ago!

  • @vorevox Haha...I worked there for a while and used this on all the used gpz's. We had a mechanic who synched the carbs so they'd be slightly out at idle, lumpy exhaust note, but dead-on at 5k and above. I switched to Suzuki's in '87, loved those old oil-cooled bikes.

  • @Jkbox1 ..Reallly!!. I bought my 1984 as a leftover in 1987 or 88, it's been a while. The Ninja 1000 were the big deal back then after the 900's. I paid in the ball park of 3250 for my bike new. Couldn't beat that. Hey it was a 'left over' but the only bike current for that price was the EX-500, no thanks!. The 'Mad Max' bikes are sadly gone, now they look like rolling eggs for the most part. It's easy to find a old Harley restored but not a GPZ. Such as life.

  • Hi,

My brother has one and is in a real nice condition. Has a lot of new parts for this motor. Also the electronic injection works fine. What are these bikes worth nowadays?

  • I was lucky and purchased one off a local guy who sorted the injectors which just needed cleaning . The motors all run a bit lumpy on low rpm even when the injectors are sorted. Keep these clean by running a full bottle of injector cleaner per tank of fuel (375ml should do it) twice a year and you should get no problems. Just make sure all the sensors are operating by looking at the fault codes given by the computer and they'll run forever! Pure magic these machines!

  • Gpz big block is mean machine that lasts forever. Best bike ever!

  • Sweet job! I love the 80's GPz's even though my mates tell me I'm nuts! I'm doing one up now but it's pretty ratty. I'm ditching the DFI and going with carbs. The plan is to make it look stock but tweak it a bit. Great to see your bike and thanks for posting this! Cheers! Anthony.

  • @anridapu hi bud i had 1 in 1985 wicked bike i loved it i agree get rid of fuel inj it was shit i put a new can on and it would not tick over sent it back to kawasaki dealer and still no good go with carbs bud so much better ride safe

  • Nice bike, I got a 'y' reg in the shed in bits. Ihave an 'a' reg 750 as everyday ride. Old tech now with heavy frames and weedy forks compared to todays bikes, but i love '80s kwaks. Stock pipes are as rare as hens teeth too! Yeah nice bike fella, well done.

  • Yes,very nice bike for sure!

I was going to build a GPZ1100 engine and modify it into a KZ frame, but decided to mod the KZ engine instead...less hassle.Punched out the KZ1000 engine to 1105 and with cams and carbs and some head-work,it hauls ass for an old-school bike.

Still have most of the GPZ engine if you're looking for parts.

Look after that bike man...very nice!

The birds sure seem to love it too, lol!

  • these bikes command respect i have 2 of them and they feel like new zx 600's or 750's

  • I think this model was shipped with differend DFI boxes to different countries to pass local laws.

Mine is a 1983 model, and I didn't know it had revlimiter, until by accident, when I missed a gear very bad.

Mine runs happily to 11500 and then the limiter kicks in. I have only ported the head replaced the original air filter housing with aluminum rampipes and foam filters plus 1170cc Wiseco kit and 4-1 exhaust.

You can do wheelie with just throttle. Wasn't possible as stock.

  • i had one of these gpz/zx 1100 , they are pretty cool stock , but some mean ass bikes when beefed , i put a new rebuild and got rid of that ratty ole dfi unit , i put some high pros kz 11 j carbs that helped get over ten rev limit, i fattened up the rear tire with a 150 metzler and up graded the chain gears , the bore on the engine pulled 150 horses and the bike was a total terror to ride , i loved it but to much to handle,

  • @guppyelf Hi mine runs like a bag of shite, blowing and popping. Do you recon it could be an idea to do away with fuel injection like you did?

  • @MOLMENTUSS , i don't know if i got back to you , sorry , i am on the road a lot , mine popped and back fired and flooded the plugs down , it was a bad regulator, for 1.650. dollars i could get the dfi digital fuel injection, fixed.i found some kz11ooj carbs on ebay that were off of an old police bike for 100, bucks, and had them jetted for pod filters, about 80, bucks, ran like a raped ape bro, the old air box will not fit so you will need to ditch,

  • is this fuel injected?

  • I can answer that as I have owned a couple of them which I also hand built from scratch....yes they are fuel injected from the factory. Unfortunately, this means that as soon as you put a decent 4 into 1 exhaust on they run fluffy and like a sack of crap at anything below 3000 rpm then try to tear your arms off once the injectors switch out of the low speed idle mode!

  • g day mate do you live Sydney need help finishing off resto gpz 1100 83 steve campbelltown

  • i own a gpz 750 and i love the model it's classic 1983 model,this oane looks great,good job in deed !

  • The letters on the tank were originally filled in black. I own the same bike but the silver one, love it.

    Good job !

  • get a set of tranzak cans for it i have them and they sound sick...ps nice bikes

  • whoa..classics!
