Tom one thing about Tournament. Do you like Market? Early game, Tournament is basically a Market that does not give an extra buy and costs 1 less. Personally I am in favor of grabbing 2 or 3 as I am about to start adding Provinces to my deck rather than buying them early. Usually there is something faster than +1card, +1action, +$1 for $4.
If you can get a fast Province and grab the Trusty Steed and/or Followers it is huge though. Many games are won and lost on Isotropic by those prizes.
HAHA Dominion I came up with a Killer strategy, my friend kept winning so I decided "Rawr screw u" So I bought all the moats and all the Witches and just kept witching him, (Which gives -1 point cards) XD it was hilarious
I had a fun time with Cornucopia. It made me get the giddiness of buying every card from when I first started playing before the min/maxing started kicking in.
The only thing to really note with Tournament, is that while it does require you to have a Province to get a Prize, anyone else having one doesn't prevent you from gaining a Prize--the reward for no one else having a Province is drawing a card (if you gained a Prize, you get it immediately thus), and 1 money. So it's got a use even when you pull it up with no Provinces in hand.
Is it critical to a strategy? No. But a few uses of Princess, Followers, and Trusty Steed can make the difference.
I totally agree with your critique of the tournament. Thus far, I haven't been able to capitalize using any of the prizes or I only got to use them once before the game was over. (I was playing w/out the Prosperity expansion and w/ 2-3 people)
The prizes look like they could work well with some house rules. Maybe establish some conditions beforehand, and the first player to fulfill them gets a prize.
I agree with you on Tournament. With only 5 prize cards to go around, it's not likely to pay off more than once or twice. And while the prizes seen pretty good, with them being late game additions to your deck I don't see getting much use out of them either. But I haven't had a chance to play them yet, so I hope I'm wrong.
I'm surprised more people don't complain about the randomness in Dominion... it can really screw you, or make a crap player do decently. Personally, I like Dominion but it's definitely not one of my favorites due to the randomness.
@keithburgun but this is a controlled randomness. You are adding cards to your deck and affecting the chances to pull one or another card or making chains.
err... 5th expansion, unless you don't count Intrigue as an expansion (some say a base set cannot be an expansion). You listed them yourself - after base set, there's Intrigue, Seaside, Alchemy, Prosperity, and now Cornucopia.
Oh and I once pulled a 10 card hand Menagerie, it was glorious!

Tom farming village is actually the 5th, not 3rd "village": village, fishing village, minning village, workers village and now farming village ;)

@keithburgun I used to think about the randomness too, but it doesn't bother me when i build my deck correctly.

I cringed during the falling cards sequence...I’ve had to pick up all the Dominion and Intrigue cards when they fell out of their boxs…not fun
