I didn't know pink meant death in Japan until I learned out that, and once I found out, I got the clear reason WHY Marluxia was that color: The literal Grim Reaper of the Organization. It's a bit scary once you put the pieces together, but amazing to learn new things!

Conversely, it is the color "white" which represents death in Japanese culture. It is a sign of mourning, and for that reason is the color LEAST used in hospitals with its deep association with death.

Then the creators switched genders on Marluxia because they realized the implications people might draw from two women trying to take over an organization where the rest of the members are male. I'm not kidding. I'm really unhappy with that as well. The creators don't seem to care that Organization XIII has been nicknamed "Orgy" and they balk at the possible lesbian implications making Marluxia a girl. Grrrrr
