There are no legitamate causes for it being illegal. It's a good sign when you see the mainstream media advocating it's decriminalization.
The underground drug market, which has ties with the government, will prevent this from happening soon at all costs. On top of this the power hungry federal government likes being in control of as many things as possible, and they enjoy having more potential suspects to intimidate and arrest with their power. But it is a common sense solution that will eventually come true, for sure, because it is too logical to be prevented forever. Billions in revenue; freed up prisons; a peaceful population.
