Good work! Good match up of the background singing and music. I liked the mixture of different houses. Some of the houses were huge and beautiful. I'm sure they could tell a great story. Also, I liked the humble farmhouses down the lane. They had a story to tell, too. I hope the make continues making films, too.
I am moving to Illinois !!!!. Virtually every home here in South Africahas to have high walls with electric fencing or steel pallisade sharpened spikes fences , razor wire . I pay 2 armed response companies. GAP is ex mercenaries and military armed to the teeth and drive mean looking black 4 x4's that patrol our neighborhood 24/7(fortunately I we live in a area that can afford this), panic buttons ,dogs and a 9mm . Dead serious !. Count your blessings to be living is such a crime free area
@taur561 wow I definetly am blessed...no guns or military driving thru here.... occasionally some kind of violence but its usually just domestic violence or a shop got robbed. yeah come to america!! although we got our fair share of troubles it sounds better then where you are!!
I cannot actually believe that you can actually leave a home and it remains untouched. Here in South Africa it would either have been invaded by squatters who would tear it down bit by bit to use for fire wood while living in it, and when it collapses on them , everyone will feel sorry for them and give them a brand new RDP house free. Or the vagrants would simply accidentally burn it to the ground in a drunken fight .
@taur561 wow really that is very different from here in Illinois there are tons of houses many with lots of possesions furniture antiques etc still in them that havent been taken....
@thunderinthevalley Oh man , you are so lucky !!! See my post. Dead serious. This is Africa . Beautiful country but very dangerous and crime ridden. I just sold out in Hillbrow , SA. 2 adjacent blocks of apartments were hi-jacked. Squatters have more rights than owners. If a man squats longer than 48 hours , he literally becomes the owner and it is a prolonged legal matter to get them evicted by which time they have wrecked your property. Even burn it to the ground as revenge.
This is very well done. The music is very in sinc with the pictures. There are a lot of abandoned houses here in Mo. and its usually because they are inherited by people who have no desire to spend the money on the upkeep on such large houses. The children who inherit them are usually farmers who only value the land. I live in an old house built in the 1840s and believe me its expensive to heat and to repair anything in keeping with the designs of its time.
These homes are fascinating. I noticed some personal things like books, bowls, a heater, small table. Probably something lost /forgotten in the earth. The historical society saves a house that was occupied by someone they think was important.Thank goodness there are photos and vids so we don't forget the Nobodies.
I CAN SEE TO THEM, IT`S REALLY AMAZING BUT IT COULD BE A MISTAKE O IMAGINATION TOO....OR MAYBE IT COULD BE LIKE THE OTHERS MOVIE WITH NICOLE KIDMANN, THANKS FOR THE VIDEO IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
Heathkliff...Look at the front screen door. To the left of the door is a long window. The old man is standing there. The old woman is to his right. Looks like a ghostly old couple. What do you think?
If you stop on 1:29 yo will see an old couple looking through the door and window. The man is on the left and old woman is to the right of him. Do you believe in ghosts? I do.
@Heathklif in the small left pane it looks like an old man standing there but the old women is definitely a reflection. And the "old man" is probably as well.I think its just a dirty window
@socaltrisha2004 Hi. I think they mean 1:30. Man on left. It seems that we view the top of his forehead and see the slope of his nose. He is looking down. I also see another man to his left, our right. He is looking to his left and just a side profile. Or maby not and I have a great imagination ;) Thanks for this great video and music.
In uk there are 100s of thounds of empty houses, 98 % of Total poulation live on around 12% of total area, land registry account for about 80% of landmass rest undiscloesd and not taxed. Queen owns 38% ish ? Something Wrong, or What ?
Many times people do not want strangers to rent or own the house on the farmland so they want the house to go to pot because they have usually built a nice house or have another one somewhere else on the property and a smaller family.
For years I tried to find a dirt cheap one to fix up but you have to pay the back taxes people would rather they go to hell what a waste of good craftsmanship. I wish I had taken pics of all the wonderful ones I have seen that were so gorgeous. Thanks for sharing
it makes life seem so insignificant and fragile when structures we assume would stand and be used forever perish and decay . we take so much for granted . once them places would have been full of life and laughter .
Some people die and have no immediate family left, or if they do they don't care about the house, so it just sets....until some kids burn it down, them the remains just set. such a shame.
@jlc7300 I saw this a lot growing up,esp.out in the country.I live in a big city now.Its usually kids not wanting the live on the old farm or the family dying out and the state takes over the land.
The building you see at 0:59 is the former Alma College in St. Thomas Ontario. It was burned to the ground by arsonists in May of 2008. There are many photos of it online.
The school house at 0:37 is just outside of Blenheim Ontario, the farm house at 1:01 is near Orford Rd and Hwy #3, many of the large Victorian homes are in the Brush Park neighbourhood north of downtown Detroit and the house at 1:52 and 2:14 is halfway between Ridgetown and Blenheim, ON on the old Ridge Road. There are many old Victorian homes along #3 Hwy in southwestern Ontario that have been abandoned.
theres no better feeling than walking into a new house nowing its yours it must have broke the owners heart to walk away from some of thes just to let the banks and other firms just let then disapere into histery so sad but thats life if this never hapened whot would all the builders do ??well probably whot they do now nothing thanks for posting
Gotta make you wonder Why they chose to leave. Some spent all their life buiding or paying for those homes.
I dont know why, but i just love abandonded houses. It gives me this odd feeling, almost like i used to live their. It is also weird to think of the family that once lived there.
@dirtastegood I'm exactly the same way. I've always wanted to travel all around the world, not to see the beaches, the snow, or whatever; but for these houses. <3<3<3
@dirtastegood I get it! I also have a strange fascination w/ abandoned homes. Long before foreclosure became a household word, I always wondered how anybody could up & walk away. Many were beautiful, classic farm houses! How I wish the walls could talk.
nice pics--i especially like the Detroit, brush park pics--i've got pics of some of the same houses there. you should check out my vids as well---i've been taking pics in east st. louis, il for almost ten years now--super abandonment!
I post on there and it doesn't show up!! GRRR Many families die out or the heirs don't want to farm the land and move to the cities to work. Its sad to see beautiful homes decay like this. Its so expensive to keep up a house too.
I just love abandoned buildings... they just fill me with this calming melancholic peace
Houses become abandoned easily... kids grow up work and start family somewhere else, when the parents are gone nobody wants to rent it, there are conflicting interests...one wants to sell...one wants to do this and that
First not everyone is lucky enough to own one, second why not sell it before it comes to this? Next it is also haunting to know that we are nothing more than dust in the wind also. Lives lived and lives gone. Mattering no more. How depressing.
This is very solemn because it reminds us just how fragile we are. It is a haunting feeling to see abandon homes, perhaps subconsciously it has provoked feelings that suggest we have met our demise.
I love that little red shanty in the middle of the field. I find it strange that you rarely see houses in this state of disrepair in Canada. Perhaps it's governed more closely that houses that become dangerous be leveled, I'm not sure. I have watched all of the houses on the block across from my 160 year old humble home be torn down one by one and there was not a thing wrong with these dwellings. Sadly, they served no purpose to the man who is buying up the block with plans to develop.
Be glad you don't live where I do. This remote country village was once a thriving place of industry, with multiple factories, hotels, boarding houses, churches, and general stores. All that remains today are two stores (one of which is vacant) and one church, and a few dozen houses. Over the years people moved away from here, and those remaining didn't give a rats arse about preserving their heritage.
(con't.) In the 26 years I've lived here, I've seen at least 30 buildings - about one in every three - torn down or burned, and the vast majority of the sites remain vacant to this day. Shameful is the only word to describe it, and I wish I could move away so I don't have to walk down the street and be haunted by the memories of the many buildings which have disappeared within my time.
I think you're right about fewer abandoned houses existing in Canada. I think the reason is that people here have much less regard for heritage, than in the east. I've never been to Europe but I've heard that old houses are much more plentiful. I guess when you've lost as many buildings as the Europeans have (in two world wars), you have more respect for what you've got left. Like the Joani Mitchell song said, "You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone". Remember that, people.
Land is also at a premium in many European countries, so many houses aren't left abadoned like this. However, in England you do get some sprawling country homes that go years without an owner, but rarely do they get like these pics, where the wood is rotten and the entire house is unlivable.
This is by far the most intelligent and insightful comment that I have ever read on this site, hell, online period. If I knew you in real life I know that we could be friends.
@w8lftr...Yeah, doesn't make much sense. Although I have worked w/ homeless people & a majority of them are homeless because of an addiction legal (alcohol) or illegal (drugs, etc). A few of them are mentally not in their right minds. That however is not always the case as now the economy is really bad lots of people are just down on their luck. Homelessness is a complicated issue because your dealing w/ people who need employment, encouragement, & a home. Many issues at play. Peace
