He has not absolute power, he has power over the executive branch of the republic, the legislative branch belongs to the senate, elected by the people of Venezuela (like the legislative too) and the judicial power belongs to the supreme cohort.

In 1998 when chavez was elected there was 80% of poverty in Venezuela, in 2006 there was 36% of poor people in venezuela.

I'm not from Venezuela, but , but I've been there and as far as I could see, majority of the people is happy with him, and it's not true that he cheated the elections .. there were international observers, otherwise in my country (Mexico) the elections were cheated on 2006, but the big difference is that USA is happy with that without mattering the people of Mexico are not!
