@tranluhoang here on youtube there are many videos showing that the 5.56mm round almost EXPLODES when it hits a human at 0-100M doing much more damage than a 7.62x39mm AK round. But the 7.62 is very good at going through trees, cars and other armor. 7.62 makes a wound similar to a 9mm Pistol round most of the time, depends on what kind of 7.62 ammo it is but cheap 7.62 is not as deadly as 5.56mm most of the time.
-higher recoil,sodiers have to practice well to handle it in fully automatic fire.
-maybe,less accurate than M-16,but i'm not sure about that.Although it's less,it doesnt matter because almost fight take place in a distance <200-300m,or still in the AK range,the difference in effective range does not effect so much here.It just does when we pull it up to 400 or 500m(very rarely)
-slower in rate of fire,however,in my opinion,it's not really a disadvantages.
@tranluhoang I have used both the AK and the M-16, I use the M-16 in the US Army Infantry, they are both good rifles I can be happy with both but they are DIFFERENT. You give me the choice and I choose M-16, faster, more accurate lighter. The M-16A2 or the M4 are both very reliable, I have never seen a jam but I am a trained solder, that is the secret to the M-16, CLEAN the chamber and bolt every morning & do not throw it into the mud. If that happens take the bolt out and wipe the mud off.
-always reliable,as someone said,it can fire thousands of rounds constantly without jam or overheat,so the solder can keep his power without any trouble.
If they are in hands of good soldiers,special forces such as,it's really dangerous,the South Vietnam soldiers was so afraid of the Norths soldiers if they have AK-47 in hands.
Disadvantages:(compared to M-16)
-somewhat heavier than the M-16 with the first AK-47s,but in AKM it's only 3.14kg no load.
-stay unjammed in any conditions and any environments,it can fire after suppressed in water,sand,i've heard that 1 armed police of vietnam died in a river of cambodia,and 1 year later people took his body up(almost fully decompose,and they can fire his AK fully automatic,30 rounds.
-high power and high damage ,if an big fat american get shot from an AK,his back will have a big hole,about 5-6 cm in diameter.(i've seen it in a campaign)

M-16 designer Eugene Stoner was very angry about this. 99% of all M-16 jamming problems were sloved in the 1st year of use in Viet Nahm.

AK is great. My son and I learned to take AK completely apart, beyond field stripping, in about an hour. To shoot/operate the AK took about 10 minutes at the range before we felt fully competent. When I learned to field strip, shoot/operate the M16 back in the 70's it took all day. Also, after firing about 1,000 rounds through AK's and SKS's I've NEVER had a jam. Back in the 70's the AR15/M16's I fired would jam about every 2-3 hundred rounds and were hard to clear. AK vs. M4? AK wins..
As an American, Republican and DoD employee for almost 3 decades I'd like to put my 2 cents in on the "AK vs. M16" debate... Only in America can we make a gun that costs 5 times as much and jams twice as often and claim it's "better" because it is marginally more accurate. Average infantryman is NOT firing from a bench and trying to shoot his group 1" tighter at 200 meters than his competition. But I'll say one thing, the US gov't has paid ME well by selling overpriced weapons systems!

The only time the M16s jammed on huge scale was the beginning of Vietnam, because they used ball powder(which jams eaisily in damp environments) and other materials that were not in the original design. And how can you say the M16 is MARGINALLY more accurate! My dad was in th USMC and they shot up to 500 yards, AK cannot come close. AK has power though.

I purchased my first gun in 1998. It was a post-ban Maadi MAK-90 supposedly built with Soviet tooling and materials. I learned how to field strip it myself with no manuals or training. It's beaten to hell now but is has never failed me.
oh and something else to add: I hate how on the related videos tab there is a goddamn AIRSOFT REVIEW... I can't believe people relate toys that shoot plastic and are sometimes made of plastic to iconic real guns. It really pisses me off.

They use a domestic drug called cot, which makes them feel invincible and fear nothing, thats why. And 9 year old kids can use an AK because its so simple compared to other rifles like the
M16. The first time i picked one up i was comfortable around it almost immediatly, i couldnt shoot it obviously but im sure id get used to that pretty quickly too. Its such a simple mechanism and you cant go wrong with it or jam it. Its heavier than more modern rifles but who cares, more useful for melee.

well an ak is produced with relatively low cost steel and wood components, while an m4 is made from T6 aircraft aluminum, chrome, and polymer parts. Some companies like Rock River will have an armorer custom make each component, and hand assemble them.
in addition, not a single ak from izmash is produced with wood after like the 80s. they use high end plastic and rubber for the stock and handgrips, the ones you see with wood is only from china now. alminum is light but not a strong material so russia does not use it. no m4 is custom made- its all in mass production.

M16. The first time i picked one up i was comfortable around it almost immediatly, i couldnt shoot it obviously but im sure id get used to that pretty quickly too. Its such a simple mechanism and you cant go wrong with it or jam it. Its heavier than more modern rifles but who cares, more useful for melee.

yes you have seen the crudely made ones and of course the quality comes along with the price (as seen in the video- thosands of chinese ak clones). -if you are saying russian made aks by izmash is made by low quality steel then you should really go do some research and watch its videos. even clones from bulgaria they conisider low quality.
i doubt m4 is CUSTOM made. every ak by izmash is hand assembled.

My argument is that if a despot has $1m to arm his small army, he will not think about quality, only price. Also the skill level required to fire an AK is minimal.

well an ak is produced with relatively low cost steel and wood components, while an m4 is made from T6 aircraft aluminum, chrome, and polymer parts. Some companies like Rock River will have an armorer custom make each component, and hand assemble them.

in addition, not a single ak from izmash is produced with wood after like the 80s. they use high end plastic and rubber for the stock and handgrips, the ones you see with wood is only from china now. alminum is light but not a strong material so russia does not use it. no m4 is custom made- its all in mass production.
